his mother taught him Think of how often our mothers have to be nurses, teachers, housekeepers, cooks, counsellors and friends. They are there. Mary was at the cross when Jesus was + Jn19:25f. They never stop caring about us. If there is a love that somewhat reflects the depth, height, and breath of God's love, it would be a mothers love. Jesus cried, O Jerusalem how I longed to gather you as a hen gathers her chicks, but you were not willingMoses mother instilled faith in her child, because later he was able to make a wise choice. Heb.11:24f D. Mothers are to be DECORATED and honoured. (Prov. 31:28) Ill: A man stopped at the florist for flowers to be delivered to his moth- er living 200km away. Getting out of his car he saw a girl on the curb sobbing & asked her what was wrong and she replied, I wanted to buy a red rose for my mother, but I only have R5.00 and a rose is R10.00. He smiled and said, Come on in with me. I will buy you a rose for your mother. He placed his order of flowers to be sent to his mother and bought the rose & then offered the girl a ride. She said Yes please, if you could, take me to my mother, and she directed him to a cemetery where she placed the rose on a freshly dug grave. The man returned to the florist, cancelled the delivery, picked up the flow- ers and drove the 200km to his mothers home. Love needs to be ex- pressed in deeds.

MOTHERS, THE BOND OF THE HOME
TEXT: Proverbs 31:10-31
What do we mean that mothers are the bond of the home are we referring to the home-loan, or mortgage bond? Au contraire one rendering of the OT Hebrew word for mother is bond as in cement or glue! Interesting! This morning I want to Honour, Encourage and Commend our MOTHERS, as Proverbs 31:28 tells us to do.
B. Godly Mothers are BUSY in the Home. (Prov. 31:27) I think busy is an understatement! Note Gods order in 1 Tim. 5:14 to younger widows marry, bear children and guide their home. Keeping the home is her primary responsibility. Many wives have to go out to work, however, in these tough economic times. As an effective man- ager of the home v21-22, she has her priorities in order. Even though she had pursuits outside of the home (v16, 24), her family is first (v15, 18) before outside interests. Such a woman complements her husband (v23) and contributes to a bright future for her family. O. Godly Mothers are Models of OBEDIENCE. Firstly, she is obedient to the Lord. Like Mary Lk 1:38. There is Divine order in Christianity - 1 Cor 11:3. Secondly to her husband. 1 Peter 3:5. In this way she becomes a role model for her children, this is how children learn the God-given order of the family. At a banquet, the mother of George Washington was sitting beside a distin- guished French officer, He asked, How have you managed to rear such a splendid son? She replied, I taught him to obey N. Godly Mothers realize the NEED to teach good things. Through her teaching of good things, the godly mother builds her home. Prov 14:1 The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish tears it down with her own hands wisdom is valued in the same way - rubies. Prov 8:11cf 31:10. Some of the greatest lessons we have ever learned have come from loving, caring, sacrificing mothers who were always available to us. This reflects Gods original plan for the func- tion of the human family. Titus 2:3b-5 the mother is to Love, Instruct & Discipline Children Prov 1:8 Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching regular in Proverbs - 5 th Command. Deut. 6:7 Impress them on your chil- dren. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. The things that we are looking at this morning in Proverbs are things that a mother BirthdaysMay 14
