This is to propose solutions to the problem of lowering the crime rate. These suggestions are designed to keep the crime rate lower and to protect more people in Albuquerque. They will, however, cost Albuquerque time and resources in order to make areas safer. The areas in which this project will take place will be all over Albuquerque. These changes are expected to be in place as soon as possible, and remain in place until there are better solutions. The problem of crime in Albuquerque (ABQ) The proposed project should be in place as soon as possible, because the crime rates in ABQ are extremely high. In fact, The Albuquerque crime index is 40% higher than the New Mexico average and the New Mexico crime index is 28% higher than the National average. Therefore, with no change in the system, the crime rates will remain high. There is a correlation between how many police officers are on duty/employed, and how high crime rates are. According to 2 graphs on usa.com, the more law enforcement employees there are, the less crime there is. This project will help to lower the crime rate in the city of ABQ, and help to make the citizens feel safer.
Goals The goals strived for in this project are: To lower the crime rate in Albuquerque o The graphs haven proven that: with more law enforcers, crime will decrease. To help citizens feel safer o Lower crime rates means happier people. Increase crimes that are unsuccessful due to the victim fighting back o If victims are able to fight back, criminals will be deterred from committing acts of crime Plan of action 1. Propose project to city council and the APD. 2. Wait for approval. If any problems with original proposal, revise and propose revised version 3. Repeat step 2 until approved 4. Employ more law enforcers, and set schedules and patrol routes 5. Also, encourage citizens to fight back, and carry items like mace, or possibly even Tasers Budget The budgeting for this project would be: Salary costs for new police officers Gas prices for patrol cars Salary costs for police officers in New Mexico are approximately $52,347 one year after graduation of the Police Academy. ($25.18/hour) There are, of course, incentives for the Police Force. The incentives include bilingual abilities, becoming a training officer and even having a certain type of degree. (Police-officer-pages.com) Gas prices for patrol cars will remain the same. The higher the gas prices become the more budget required to pay for the gas. Officers receive a set amount of mileage, therefore a set amount of gas. (Neighbor)
Conclusion We implore that this proposal influences your decision to help the city of Albuquerque in lowering the crime rate. As stated before, graphs from usa.com have proven that the more officers employed helps to lower the average crime rate. We believe that if citizens carry more defensive weapons (mace, Tasers, etc.) the crime rate will also decrease as criminals will be deterred and the crimes will not happen.
