More than 22 years after Anjelica Castillo, aka Baby Hope was found murdered
in the woods of upper Manhattan police have made an arrest in the case.
A relative of Castillo, believed to be a cousin, has reportedly confessed to the
killing, according to officials in New York.
In a press conference on Saturday, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said a man
named Conrado Juarez, 53, has been arrested and will be charged with Castillos
murder. The New York Post reports that Juarez was 30 at the time of Castillos
death in 1991.
"A tip produced a lot of investigative work, and with great detective work we were
able to track people down and interview them," Kelly said. "We finally came up
with Anjelicas sister, and that broke the case through.
In an emotional moment, Kelly noted that while Castillo was known only as "Baby
Hope" for the past 22 years, detectives on the case had paid for a headstone for
the young girl inscribing it with the words, "Because we care."
During his press conference, Kelly said that Juarez allegedly kidnapped Castillo
and sexually assaulted and smothered her with the help of his wife, Balvina
Juarez. When he realized that Castillo was dead, Juarez allegedly summoned his
sister, now deceased, for help. Castillo was living with Juarez and other relatives
at the time while her parents were going through a separation, Kelly said.
Kelly says Juarez and his sister then took a livery cab to Manhattan where they
disposed of the body. "Juarez returned to The Bronx and his sister returned to
Queens, never to speak of this heinous act again, that is until our investigation

into the case this summer. The New York Daily News reports that the arrested
individual is expected to be charged in connection with the case.
The renewed investigation efforts led to Castillo being identified in early October,
the first time her actual identity has been discovered since her body was first
found inside a cooler in the woods in 1991. On Friday, a tip led police to
identifying Castillos father. Police told CNN they do not currently have enough
evidence to arrest the man but are attempting to contact him about the case.
We're very interested in him, an anonymous official told CNN.
Police have also recently identified Castillos sister and mother. Castillo is
believed to have been between 3 and five years old at the time of her death. NBC
4 New York reported that Castillos mother told authorities she lived in fear of the
babys father, which is why she did not report her child as missing back in 1991.
"They made it their mission to identify this young child, to lay her to rest and to
bring her killer to justice," Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said in a
statement released on Saturday.

This is too sick to know where to start. The mother, the father, the cousin, the
cousin's wife, the cousin's sister. What kind of animals are these people? And
why do I feel like I've suddenly insulted animals?

When it comes to kids and the elderly being victims like this I vote death
penalty. We spend too much money on #$%$ being allowed to live.
Poor Hope, RIP. I have no sympathy for the parents, they should be
accomplice for not doing anything. But then, maybe they knew.

I'm still not understanding why the parents never reported the child missing.
Apparently the mother was scared of the father, but this still doesn't make
sense to me, she knew who she left her child with, and why didn't the father
come forward .I think at least the mother should be held responsible, and if the
parents were going through a separation/divorce, didn't the father question
where his daughter was, and he didn't recognize the pictures/flyers? More

Whenever I read about murders like this, I always shudder when I hear the
phrase "with the help of." It's easy to accept that there are really messed up
people in the world, but I prefer to think of them as rare individuals. It really
freaks me out to think of the people who were willing to go along with it. More

I am so messed up by this story! I feel like something is missing, but I am
having a rough day so maybe I missed something here. This "cousin" took this
child that was living with his family because mom and dad were going through
a separation/divorce? And his wife and sister helped dispose of the child? And
the mom didnt report the child missing because she was afraid of her ex? The
whole da*n family needs to be executed for this crime and their stupidity! More

This is so messed up on so many levels, how could you rape a little child? and
how could you be an accomplice and help your husband watch and carry out
raping a child and killing her?! This is almost too hard to believe but I know it's
true and is probably happening on a daily basis, I'm just having a really hard
time processing this information, I would have easier time believing that our

Sometimes families are tied together by a filthy ribbon. All of the adults in this
case should be arrested and tried. This is a case of loyalty to the adult
perpetrator at the expense of the child. We see this much too often. It appears
that children are looked upon as expendable and disposable by some people.
May the little one rest in peace and may the adults burn in hell.

This family is totally messed up, there should be more arrests than just the
killer's. How can a father who leaves the children with these people not know
that he is minus one kid? Even when they went to the killer's house, his
daughter lied and said he went to mexico 12 years ago but someone else told
the police he was a dish washer at a restaurant and where to find him. How

Isn't it interesting that they don't even know the age of the child ... the article
says " the child is believed to have been between 3 and 5 years old." The man
who committed this crime and anyone else who withheld evidence should be
sentenced to death.

What goes through the mind of people like this? How could anyone "help" their
husband rape a child? And then kill her and dispose her body. I can't wrap my
mind around what kind of human being could carry this out. A woman at that.
Women are supposed to be maternal and have an instinct to protect a child,
