This document outlines a church service that focuses on the theme of light and darkness. It includes songs, scripture readings, prayers, and a sermon calling believers to walk as children of light by exposing the works of darkness in their lives and following Christ, who is the true light. AWAKE ARISE Christ will shine on you AND Opening Mighty to Save The Stand Salvation is Here Ephesians 5:8-14 For at one time you were darkness, but now YOU ARE LIGHT in the Lord. WALK AS CHILDREN OF LIGHT (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. Prelude THE TRUE LIGHT, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. HE WAS IN THE WORLD, and the world was made through him, yet THE WORLD did not know him. HE CAME to his own, and HIS OWN PEOPLE did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, WHO BELIEVED in his name, HE GAVE the right to become CHILDREN OF GOD... (John 1:9-12) 1 Litany of Darkness and Light L: You are the children of God, children of light. C: For at one time we were darkness, but now we are light in the Lord. L: Put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires C: For at one time we were darkness, but now we are light in the Lord. L: Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. C: For at one time we were darkness, but now we are light in the Lord. L: Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up. C: For at one time we were darkness, but now we are light in the Lord. L: Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, flthiness, foolish talk nor crude joking among you. C: For at one time we were darkness, but now we are light in the Lord. 2 F O R A T O N E TIM E ... (silence for refection and confession) Absolution L: We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righ- teous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:1b-2) Exhortation L: 3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 Whoever says I know him but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but who- ever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. (1 John 2:3-6) Confession L: This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellow- ship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1 John 1:5-10) C: Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead ex- pose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret (Ephesians 5:11-12) 3 4 y o u
