May 21 from the beach at PCYC. The lake was dead calm, not a cloud in the sky, and the setting sun glistened off the mirrored lake. The night before we had a tremendous isolated thunderstorm which filled the pool, watered the new flowers, and has caused the club grass to explode. The Rear Commodore has kept a slew of volunteers busy remodeling the mens bathroom, repairing picnic tables, and remodeling the bathrooms at the pool. The Garden Committee has been hard at work allowing the club blossom into color. The shuffleboard court was opened for the season by the Monday night crew and the tennis court has been busy. By the time you read this, our first big, busy Memorial Day weekend will be over and the club will be in full swing for the summer season. Please check your committee assignment or assignments in the yearbook or on the club website. If you if have a conflict with the schedule please find a substitute so the committee is not left short handed. You can always count on your sponsor to help you out I would hope! We always can use extra help on the New Years Eve committee December 31 and the Recognition Dinner in January, 2015. The social calen- dar runs from May 1 st , 2014 to April 30, 2015 which can be a bit confusing. We are unable to print the yearbook and make commit- tee assignments until we review your committee request form on January 1 st and finalize the club calendar. The yearbook is printed in April. Committee Chairman Function reports from previous years are available from the club files at the club or from the Social Committee. Committee Report forms are available from the Club website, the bulletin board in the kitchen, or the social committee. If you see something around the club that needs attention, please relay that information to the Caretaker, Facilities Manager, Flag Officer, or Board members. The more of us you tell the bet- ter. This is the second year for our trial pet policy change. The current policy is posted on the club bulletin boards and is not published in the yearbook. Did you notice: that club mem- ber Gloria D has her cast off her recently broken ankle and is al- ready volunteering to mow the grass , that the sail fleet has al- ready run the years first Regatta (Laser Qualifier), had their first Auxiliary Race, and has contrib- uted nicely to the bar sales, that the pool and grounds look great!!, that the water snakes are already trying to find ways to colonize your boats, and that Mike H and Mike H need to work on their fishing skills and finally that it is not a good idea to park behind or near the Commo- dores truck. Have a great June!! Commodore Michael Hablitzel mhablitzel@hotmail.com From the Commodore
June 2014 PCYC Half of the year is almost gone and summer is just about in full bloom. Our boaters are back in the marina and our grounds and green space are ready for use by our members. This year I have come to realize that it takes a lot of people to ready our club for the summer sea- son. From the docks to the buildings and pool, I cant begin to thank all the people that have helped with all the tasks. I hope that all of you can stop over and enjoy our club. Anyone that hasnt stopped by on a Saturday morning has missed a great time to socialize with your fellow members at our Bloody Mary Social event. This weekly event starts this weekend and continues through Labor Day. The pool is on schedule to open Memorial Day weekend and you will no- tice some changes. The Pool committee, along with John Henry Bolte and Eric, have been working hard to get it in operating condition. The restrooms have been renovated with new ep- oxy flooring and plastic partitions. Chuck and Eric took care of the demo work and please thank Bill Moon, Rock Sherer, John Folger, PC Geoff Bailey, Dave Ober- gefell and Commodore Mike for their help in in- stalling the new partitions. Soon we will add a three compartment sink in the pool kitchen to allow for additional food and drink service to our members. You can expect that we will utilize our pool for more social events this summer. We are always looking for new ideas to use our facilities for our members. Restrooms seem to be my common theme for 2014. Our club house mens restroom project is com- plete. Besides the floor and partitions we added a Dyson Hand dryer to the restroom. It will save on paper and cleanup. It will dry your hands in 12 sec- onds, so they say. Your feedback on the hand dryer would be appreci- ated as we are contem- plating installing one in the womens restroom. With all our talented members it sure makes my job as the RC easier. If you have time to do- nate, we will find some- thing for you to do. Our next project has not been identified but we are looking into upgrading several items in the kitchen such as silverware and china. Your input is always welcome, so please let anyone on the board or flag know what your ideas are that would im- prove our club. What lucky people we are as members. Our Club and grounds is one of the most beautiful places in the Port Clinton area. Just Remember This is your club, use it and have fun. Rear Commodore Doug Shealy The Rear Perspective Page 2 PCYC

We had wonderful weather May 16-18 as PCYC once again hosted this laser event. Sailors from Chicago and inland lakes in Ohio and Indiana were excited to race on the open waters of Lake Erie. Our own local talent included Thomas McRitchie and Tyler Brand. Another reason the Laser class likes to race at PCYC is how well we run the event. Thank you to Principal Race Officer (PRO) Dave Nighswander for executing some great races. Other members and volunteers that made this regatta successful were Marti Nighswan- der, Jim and JJ Miller in the start boat; Mark Sprenger, Sara Hanselman and Jasmin Jordan land finish boat;and Duane Schnei- der, Tim Larcey, Ethan Taylor and Tony, the Brit Mark and Safety Boats. Special thanks to Mark Sprenger for his use of "ThinIce" and "Center Ice" and Ed and Gwen Casey for the use of "Hedge Fun".
