Can Indonesian Children / Students / University Student / People (Adult) Learn English by

Themselves Successfully ?
Every people with their brain inside, can learn everything new. Our brain have one trillion
cells and 100 billion nerve active cells which can record information from outside. Our brains
memory storage is around 2.5 petabytes or a million gigabytes. With the number of that, it would
be enough to hold three million hours of TV shows and running continuously for more than 300
years to use up all that storage. So it means that we can learn everything as long as our brain is
active.
Sugata Mitra, the Indian professor for education, made an experiment about can children
learn by themselves with minimum interference?. The name of his experiment is Hole In The
Wall . Sugata Mitra placed a computer in the hole of the kiosk wall at a slum Kalkaji, Delhi.
Children could use it freely. His experiment proved that children could be taught by computers
very easily without any formal training. The children were wondering to use the available
computer. So they kept trying to use it whether is wrong or right.
The effects for the Indian children are they know how to use a computer, they know how to
access internet and also they can understand English. The fact is before the experiment began,
the children didnt know anything about English. They also never seen computer and never knew
what internet was. The conclusion about that experiment is children can learn to use computers
on their own irrespective of who or where they are.
According to the question can Indonesian children / students / university student / people
(adult) learn English by themselves successfully, the answer is they can. Because learning isnt
always needs a teacher. Albert Einsten said, Learning is not a product of schooling but a long
life attempt to acquire it. Now we have a modern technology and we have an internet
connection. There are many ways of learning without the interference of the teacher. They can
use online media, such as learning video, tape, games, and pictured book that make them
interesting to open and read it. They also can learn from their friends and their parents. Maybe
there are some children whom their parents are talking English, so they can learn every words
that their parents say.
But it can be successfully or not, it depends on the individual itself. Usually if the children
learn English by themselves, they can easily know many vocabularies. Sadly some children dont
have capabilities to understand what they get so easily. Their capabilities will growth as long as
they train their brain with everything new and they must always have their anxiety to do that
continually. But learning without the interference of the teacher will make the children passive.
They just learn but they dont speak actively. They need a teacher to motivate them, give them a
chance to talk, so they can be attractive. Teacher should make an interesting object to make them
interest and always have a motivation to learn more and more.
For example is me. My English wasnt quite well and at that time all of my friends spoke
English very well. So I realized that I left far behind my friends. Firstly I took English course in
my city. Then I still didnt get it. So I started to play game and I always listen to English songs.
With that ways, now I know what English is. My English courses teacher is always talking
English to me when the course started. Since that happen, when I went to the course, I always
learned English by myself and tried to speak with myself. So I think it can be success if the effort
of learn by myself is equal with what the teacher teach.
