POSTDOC POSITION IN ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES

Universidad Continental (UC) at Peru invites candidates for a post doc position in
atmospheric sciences. UC is an organization of higher education, the most
prestigious and modern located in the center of Peru.
The research project is titled Study of the variation of the aerosol optical
properties due to biomass burning to evaluate its influence in the Earths radiative
forcing funded by CONCYTEC, with location at the Universidad Continental and
the Observatory of Huancayo of the Geophysical Institute of Peru, and is funded
for a period of 2 years.

The objective of the research is to evaluate the impact of atmospheric aerosols in
the radiative forcing over the Andean region of Peru through systematic
monitoring of the optical properties of aerosols and use of air mass trajectories,
especially the ones coming from biomass burning regions in Brazil and Bolivia.
Duties of the Postdoc:
Collect measurements of atmospheric aerosols.
Compare and evaluate the transport of aerosols.
Develop and evaluate methodologies for the calculation of optical
properties of the aerosols and radiative forcing from ground measurements.
Further develop statistical tools for atmospheric analyses.
Prepare semester reports.
Prepare publications resulting from this research.
Contribute to activities of capacity building

Selection criteria:
Position is open to Peruvian and international applicants with doctoral degree
(PhD), with degree obtained no later than 2010.
Training in atmospheric sciences, meteorology, or physics
Minimum of 5 years experience in an environmental topic related to this
research.
Record of scientific publications in indexed scientific journals.

Knowledge in:
Programming in the field of monitoring of solar radiation.
Remote sensing and modeling of atmospheric radiative transfer.
Monitoring of aerosols and modeling of atmospheric transport.
Management of Hysplit model
Measurement of radiative impacts trough the SBDART model
Information and communication technologies in research.
Effective management of challenging situation: vulnerabilities, natural disasters,
among other related to the project.
Capacity to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural research team.
Excellent interpersonal relationships and orientation of team work

Benefits:
Coverage of international and national flight ticket and transportation to
Huancayo, Peru.
Monthly payment of S/. 6,000.00 nuevos soles (~USD 2,150.00) per month.
Contract for 2 years with social benefits (direct contract, health insurance,
gratifications, and utilities).
Possibilities of giving lectures at undergraduate and graduate levels, with a
possible additional monthly payment of 3,000 nuevos soles.
