India is the second largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the world but, according to
the India Tribune, due to inadequate supply chain and logistics infrastructure and
management, two-thirds of the produce, worth US$ 65 billion in revenue, is wasted or lost in
transit every year
In the last few years, India has also been crippled by rising food inflation rates, predominantly due to high supply
chain costs in the Indian food and grocery industry, estimated at US$ 24 billion. When it comes to temperature-
sensitive transportation and storage, the gap is more glaring. According to industry analysts, improving the back-
end processes in the supply chain and integrating cold chains can save US$ 15 billion annually while reducing the
wastage of perishable horticulture produce and ensuring additional export revenue of over US$ 5 billion.
In India, 65% of freight traffic moves on the road network. Road freight volumes have increased at a much higher
rate than the growth of the road network over the last few years, creating structural issues of capacity and quality.
Complex taxation and the use of different road permits/documents in different states impose additional constraints
on the movement of freight by road.
Nikhil

Challenges faced by the Logistics industry in India:
In India road has become the predominant mode of transportation of freight cargo. Estimate of the modal
movement of cargo highlights that In India nearly 61% of the cargo is moved by road, 30% by rail and rest by
airway, pipelines and inland waterways. This is as compared to a 37% share of road in the USA and 22% in China.
It is recognized that movement of long haul bulk traffic by road is less efficient than by rail. But road is still
preferred over rail because:
Important rail networks are oversaturated: There has been little investment in track infrastructure since
independence.
Rail freight tariffs are high: Indian Railways follows a policy of subsidizing passenger tariff by freight tariff.
Transit times are long and uncertain: Freight traffic is frequently subordinated to passenger traffic on the railway
network.
Rail terminal quality is poor: Most rail terminals (goods shed) used for loading/unloading of freight are antiquated.
Less flexibility in carrying different types of products: Special wagons are not easily available for carrying
specialized products.

India's social media election battle

Narendra Modi has his own website and is on Twitter,
Facebook and Google+
Rahul Gandhi doesn't have a website and doesn't use any
of the three major social networks
India's 16th general election - held in nine phases over April
and May - will be closely fought, with some observers saying
social media will play a vital role in deciding which party wins
the most seats.
Today, however, Facebook has 93 million users and Twitter
has an estimated 33 million accounts in the country.
BJP's prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, was among
the first Indian politicians to set up a website and today is on
Twitter, Facebook and Google+.

Now no serious politician
is seen as being able to
avoid social media
altogether

Taking a leaf from US President Barack Obama's presidential campaigns,
India's parties are using tools to crunch the insurmountable amounts of
information social media generates - what's known as big data analytics.
Narendra Modi even used 3D
holographic technology and satellite link-
ups to address a wider audience. He
spoke from a studio in the state's capital
while simultaneously projecting his
image to more than 50 separate rallies
across the state.

Modi is arguably one of the most tech-savvy Chief Ministers in India. He is the first
Indian politician to have around 2,263,674 followers on micro-blogging site Twitter.
He has at over 3,598,400 likes on his Facebook page.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
The Principles established in Stephen R. Coveys book are supposed to help a person achieve true interdependent
"effectiveness". These 7 habits are
Be Proactive:
The word proactive means that we are responsible for our own lives. Our
behavior is a function of our decisions, not our conditions. We can
subordinate feelings to values. We have the initiative and the responsibility
to make things happen. Highly proactive people recognize that responsibility. They
do not blame circumstances, conditions, or social conditioning for their behavior.
Begin with the end in mind:

Put First Things First:
Habit 1 says that you are the programmer. Habit 2 says to write the program.
Habit 3 says to run the program. Living it is primarily a function of our independent
will, our self-discipline, our integrity, and commitmentnot to short-term goals
and schedules or to the impulse of the moment, but to the correct principles and our
own deepest values, which give meaning and context to our goals and our schedules
Think Win/Win:

Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood:
Listening with the intent to understand is called empathic listening. Empathic listening gets inside another
persons frame of reference. You look out through it, you see the world the way they see the world, you
understand their paradigm, and you understand how they feel. Empathy is not sympathy.
Synergize
Synergy is the essence of principle-centered leadership. It catalyzes, unifies, and unleashes the greatest power
within people. Simply defined, it meant that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Sharpen the Saw
Habit 7 is preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you haveyou.
Its renewing the four dimensions of your naturephysical, spiritual,
mental, and social/emotional. Express all 4 motivations. Exercise all
four dimensions of our nature regularly and consistently in wise and balanced ways.

Begin today with the image, picture, or paradigm of the end of your life as your
frame of reference of the criterion by which everything else is examined. Each
part of your lifetodays behavior, tomorrows behavior, next weeks behavior,
next months behaviorcan be examined in the context of the whole, of what
really matters most to you.

Win/Win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in
all human interactions. Win/Win means that agreements or solutions are
mutually beneficial, mutually satisfying. With a Win/Win solution all parties
feel good about the decision and feel committed to the action plan. Win/Win is
a belief in a Third Alternative. Its not your way or my way; its a better way.
