THE BASQUE COUNTRY WILL LOSE

ANOTHER 6,000 WORKING PLACES NEXT
YEAR.

Ricardo Gatzagaetxebarria has stated today that in 2014 another 6,000 working
places will be destroyed in the Basque Country, since the forecast of an economic
growth near 1 % is not sufficient to create employment. Gatzagaetxebarria has
said that the effects of the fiscal reform agreed by the PNV and the SPS-EE will
not be obvious in the collection until 2015 and till then there will be no possibility
of developing other actions.

We are with a limited budget and now a reform isn't the best solution for our
unemployment Gatzagaetxebarria has said in Radio Euskadi. He said that they
must incorporate other political formations into this agreement to pass the
reform. In his opinion dialogue is the best solution.

WORK AND EDUCATION

THE CABLE CHILDREN

People in Europe usually have a lot of luck because they have a very good life
comparing with citizens from other countries. For example people in Africa or
South America have not got as many things as we have. Here, in Europe, we have
got a very good education, books to learn, we can study what we want and we can
get to school for free and easily. Besides that, we can wear good clothes, we have
Internet access, cars, buses, and good technologies.

In some countries, children have to go through the mountain or they have to walk
along the road to get to school because they dont have transports and they live in
bad conditions.

We think that the best way to prevent those things is to help them sending money
to build other schools in better places, for them to have a better education.

RELATIONSHIP WITH PARENTS

Getting on with your parents can sometimes be a challenge when you are young. You
may think differently from your parents, and have different beliefs, which can
lead to conflict at home or problems in communication. Try talking it out, following
some of the tips below. If this doesnt work, professional advice could help.

As a young child your parents were the leaders of the family. As a teenager or
young adult, you want to be more independent and think and speak for yourself.
This can be hard for parents to get used to. Parents can also continue to be
protective of you, and want to influence what you do and how you do it. This is
because they want what is best for you, but this can feel controlled.

It may take a while to learn how to speak up about what you want without upsetting
your parents. And if you are upset, you might be less tolerant of your parents and
their wishes.

If you can work out your differences with your parents, you can have a good
relationship.

You can start being respectful when you do not agree with something; be voluntary
to listen to your parents view; stay calm; don't accuse; stick to the issue; use a
team approach to working out problems and work together; think about what you
want in common and work out together how you can get there; use a problem solving
model like this one; decide together exactly what the problem is; add the possible
solutions and
think out the
consequences of
each possible
solution.

MORAL ISSUES

AN EYE FOR AN EYE

An eye for an eye means that people take revenge when somebody does something
against them. That could be the start of a war or something that wasnt expected.
Nowadays, a lot of places in the world are in war, and only to take revenge. When
wars finish in a certain country, another fighting will start in another place. Asia
and Africa are the most affected countries.

Mahatma Gandhi was born in Porbandar on the 2
nd
of October in 1869 and he died
in New Delhi on the 30
th
of January in 1948. He was assassinated by shooting. He
was known for his Leadership of Indian Independence movement, Philosophy of
Satyagraha, Ahimsa or nonviolence.

We think that it is not necessary to take revenge on somebody because this only
causes more violence. If we continue like now, we are going to cause a lot of
disasters and we can finish really bad.

FOOD AND HEALTH

SCIENTISTS DEVELOP IMPLANT
THAT COULD STOP PARKINSONS
GROWTH

Scientists have developed a brain implant that could prevent the progression of
Parkinson's disease.

A team in Bristol has created an implant that encourages cells damaged by the
disease to grow again. It does this through a system of tubes and catheters that
pump proteins into patients brain once a month.

The port located behind a patients ear releases a protein called GDNF.
Six patients at Frenchay Hospital, Bristol, have tried the system, and doctors are
now looking for another 36 to help them continue their
research.

The director of research and innovation of Parkinson in the UK said:
For many years the potential of GDNF has left one of the most important
questions of the investigations without answer.
I believe that GDNF could solve the disease. It can slow down or stop Parkinson.
There are many treatments for people with Parkinson, but none has had definite
results to end with the disease.

More than 127,000 people in the UK
currently have the disease, which is caused
when nerve cells in the brain die due to a
lack of the chemical dopamine. Symptoms
include slowness of movement, stiffness and
tremors.

Professor Steven Gill, from Frenchay
Hospital said: If this technology solves the
problem of Parkinson, it can be used with
other diseases such as Alzheimer or brain tumours.

FILMS REVIEW

Name of the film: En llamas (Catching fire)

action.

Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen) is the main
character.
Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark), Elizabeth Banks
(Effie), Woody Harrelson (Haymitch Abernathy),
Liam Hemsworth (Gale), Lenny Kravitz (Cinna),
Stanley Tucci (Caesar), Toby Jones (Claudius), Philip
Seymour Hoffman (Plutarch), Jena Malone (Johanna

(Finnick Odair), Jeffrey Wright (Beetee), Donald

Plot: In this film Katniss Everdeen returns home
alive, after winning the 74
th
Hunger Games with her
partner Peeta Mellark. Winning means leaving back
family and friends and touring several districts. During the games Katniss realises that a
rebellion is starting, but in the Capitolio all is correct while President Snow is organising
the 75
th
Hunger Games. Everything is going to change.
Opinion: We think that it is a very good film that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The
plot is very hard because the girl must leave her family and boyfriend and she lives on the
edge, putting her life in danger all the time.
Recommendation: we recommend this film to people older than 15 years old because little
children would not understand it.

Glossary:
Dystopia: An imaginary place or state in which the condition of life is extremely bad, as from deprivation,
oppression, or terror.

Name of the film: El diario de Noa (The notebook)
Genre: romance and drama.
Director: Nick Cassavetes.
Lead actors and actresses and characters they
play: Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) and Allie Nelson
(Rachel McAdams) are the main characters.
Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner, Sam
Shepard, Gena Rowlands, James Marsden, Kevin
Connolly, Joan Allen.
Plot: In a residence, a man (James Garner) reads a
story from his old notebook to a woman (Gena
Rowlands). In that story Noah Calhoun (Ryan
Gosling) and Allie Nelson (Rachel McAdams) from
North Carolina fall in love although they belong to
different social classes. They are separated by her
parents and then, by the war.
Opinion: we think that it is a very good film because
we like romance films and it transmits the
importance of loving somebody although he/she is
far away.
Recommendation: we recommend this film to teenagers because it is the time when they
are in love.

Name of the film: Home alone.
Genre: comedy.
Director: Chris Columbus.
Lead actors and actresses and characters they play:
Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, John Heard,
Catherine O'Hara, Roberts Blossom, John Candy, Devin

Culkin, Anna Slotky.
Plot: It is Christmas time and the McCallister family is
preparing for a vacation in Paris, France. But the
youngest in the family named Kevin got into a scuffle
with his older brother Buzz and was sent to his room.
The next morning, while the rest of the family was in a
rush to make it to the airport on time, they completely
forgot about Kevin who now has the house all to himself.
Being home alone was fun for Kevin, having a pizza all to
himself, jumping on his parents' bed, and making a mess. Kevin meets two burglars, Harry
and Marv, about to rob his house on Christmas Eve. Kevin acts quickly to stop the burglars
and to bring them to justice.
Opinion: we think that this film is very funny because he has very uncommon ideas to
catch the burglars.
Recommendation: we recommend it to young people because seeing a boy of their age will
entertain them.

ADVERT

This advert is for telling the risks that smoking
has. For that, in the picture two buried men
appear smoking. Over them there are some people
looking down at them and among these people
there is a priest. The picture represents a sad
scene, so the colours that are used are dark to
mean mourning, death, earth, sadness
In this advert there is nothing write so there
isnt any typeface but it isnt necessary because
there are symbols, such as, the tree without
leafs that represents a sad scene.
Here there is not a slogan but the most
appropriate is for example, smoking is similar to
death.
This advert doesnt sell anything it is a campaign against tobacco so that if you
smoke, you can die or you can get a disease easily.
We think that the image is very suitable to inform about the tobacco, but we miss
the slogan because sometimes it helps you to understand the message better.

GOSSIPING

Dear Laura
Ive got a problem and a dont know how to solve it, could you help me, please?
Well, Ive got some friends and they love going out at night. They all like dancing
and drinking in the disco but I dont like that way to have fun. I prefer going for
a walk or going to the cinema. I like being relaxed. In addition, Im in the second
level of High School and we have a lot to study. Some Saturdays, when we have a
lot of homework to do, they prefer partying and I have to put excuses to stay at
home. I cant continue like that because Im always alone and when I go with them
I dont enjoy myself. I have to tell them about my problem but I dont know how.
Help me please.
Susan

Dear Susan
Ive read your letter and I think that Its not a very strange one, you arent the
only girl that is affected. I think that the best way to face that problem is
speaking with your group of friends and telling them what is happening to you.
You can tell them that you like being with them, but that you have to study hard
this year and you cant go to parties. Surely they will understand you and you can
come to an agreement and some Saturdays go to the cinema or to the park
together. But you cant tell them that they have to give up going out at night
because they like that and you cant force them to do that.
Thanks for writing
Laura

SCH
OOL
TRIP

Tuesday, 8
We had to be in Ballonti at 6 oclock so we woke up at 5 oclock. We weren't tired
because we were going to have an excellent week.
When we arrived all the students were waiting with their parents and after that
we store our bags in the bus.
The bus set off at 6:30 am. After some hours we stopped in Tudela to eat
something and to have a rest. Half an hour later, we got on the bus again. Three
hours passed and we arrived in Cavas Codorniu. There, we learned some things
about wine and we took some pictures.
When we finished the route, we had lunch near the building.

We took the bus again and when we got to Barcelona, we started a guide tour in the
bus with Miquel. At 8 oclock we arrived at the hostel and after having a shower
and ordering our things we had
dinner. It was awful !!! At night, we
went to a walk without teachers and
we had a very good time! When we
got to the hostel again, we met
some people of other places and we
started talking with them. We went
to bed at 5:30 am.

Wednesday, 9
We woke up at 7 o'clock because we
had to be having breakfast at 8.
When we finished, we took our bags and all our belongings and we put them in the
bus. We sat down and we took advantage of that time to sleep.
At 9:30 am we arrived in Park Guell and we started walking and watching all the
important things of Gaudi. Apart from that, we took some photos and bought some
souvenirs. At 11 oclock we got into the bus and went to see the Sagrada Familia.
There we were given some information about the culture and monuments inside. It
was really boring!!! In the midday, we went to a big shopping centre to have lunch.
We had to eat very quickly because we had only one hour before leaving. At 3
oclock we went to the bus and at 4 o'clock we were in Camp Nou. What a football
pitch! It was huge! There, we took a lot of photos.
After a long day walking around Barcelona, we needed a shower so we went to the
hotel. It was the first day there, so we had to put all our things in order. In our
room we were four and after preparing a little bit, we went to have dinner with
other students. At 9:30 pm we went to our room again and we took our pocketbook
and make-up and we went to the Pachito nightclub. It was great!
At 2 oclock we went back to the hotel and after chatting a little bit we went to
sleep.

Thursday, 10

That morning, we woke up really tired because of the party we had the previous
night. At 8 oclock we had to have breakfast so we went downstairs with big bags
under our eyes. The bus set off at 9 oclock and in 30 minutes we were in
Tarragona learning about the history of Rome. At first we went to the rampart,
then we visited the church of Tarragona and finally we saw the theatre. We bought
some souvenirs and something to eat. Because of
the sunny day, we had lunch in a beautiful park. The
worst thing was that there were a lot of pigeons
and we got our food and our bags dirty all over.
After our lunch, we bought some very big ice-
creams and we went for a walk near the beach. At
4 oclock we were again in the bus to go to the
hotel. We were going to go to a monastery but as
we were very tired, we decided not to go. We
didn't have anything to do, so some of us went to
the beach or shopping. The others stayed in the
hotel having a shower and relaxing.
At night all of the students met in the corridor and
we went to have dinner at about 8 oclock. It was
too early!! Like always at 10:30 pm we went in
search of party. It was a wonderful night again.

Friday, 11
This day was the day that we could
sleep more because we had to be having
breakfast at 9 oclock. We woke up at 8
oclock thinking about the great day
that we were going to have. At 10:30 am
we arrived in Port Aventura Park but we
had to wait about half an hour to take the tickets. It was the first day of the
season so there were a lot of people. We entered the park running to take
advantage of the day. At 7:15 pm we had to be in the entrance and we used that
time to talk about what we had done: the rides that we had gone on, the souvenirs
that we had bought, the photos that we had taken.
At night we were very tired again, more than the other
days because it had been a really long day. Even though, we
wanted to have the last party because it was the last
night. At first we were a little bit lost because we didnt
know what to do, but, finally, we decided to go to the
Snoepys. That night we had to be in the hotel at 3 oclock
and we danced until the last minute. When our teachers
thought that we were sleeping we were in other rooms having fun. It was an
excellent night.

Saturday, 12
It was our last day so we woke up very sadly and we started to pack our bags. At 8
oclock we went to have breakfast and after talking a little bit with our friends we
went upstairs and we took all the things. At 9 oclock we were in the bus, saying
Goodbye to our hotel, our trip and our excellent experience. At 12:30 pm we
arrived in Tudela and we had lunch there. After having a long break we got on the
bus again and we continued the journey to Portugalete. At 4:00 pm we were taking
our bags and kissing our parents. All was finished, and we were going to start the
same life again.
