This time Iolo is filming a series about parks and wildlife for BBC
Wales. Iolo and his team at Aden Productions have visited our
beautiful campus. They are looking for people who regularly
spot wildlife on campus or in Singleton Park and have an
interest in learning more about wildlife. If you have any leads or
questions for Iolo and his crew then shoot an email to Emma
Walker at Aden Productions: emma.ford@aden.co.

Its exciting to see the little pollinators go about
their busy work these days. With four buzzing hives
and more on-campus beekeepers coming out of
the woods the bee project is really starting to come
alive! Please contact the Sustainability Team if you
would like to get involved with the project!
Thanks to the help of many eager staff hands we have
expanded the Polytunnel allotments. Now over 40 staff
can grow their own food, compost food waste and soon
also collect rainwater. The Polytunnel Oasis has
become a wonderful space for fostering staff wellbeing
and for building a little gardening community!

Blackout

Equivalent to 1.6
Average UK Household
Carbon Footprint
(20 Tons of Carbon)
On March 21st Swansea University
partook in Wales frst Blackout event.
The HEFWC sponsored event included
six Welsh universities including
Swansea, Cardif, Cardif Met, Bangor,
Aberystwyth and Trinity St. David.
In Swansea over 35 volunteers helped
to switch of ten buildingsthe biggest
Blackout amongst all the universities.
SPECIAL THANKS to everybody who
gave their efort and time to switch of
non-essential lights, computers and
monitors.
The Blackout saved the university
about 1,219 kWh and 600 kgCO2e
over that one weekend. Over a year
the university could save approx. 31
tonnes of Carbon, if the same
buildings were switched of every
weekend.
These numbers refect meter readings
available for seven of the ten blacked
out buildings. While this covers a third
of non-residential buildings on campus
these buildings only make up 7% of
total energy consumption on campus.
That means we can SAVE WAY MORE
if staf and students across campus
remembered to switch appliances of
where ever possible! Individual action
may seem insignifcant but when we all
do it - IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.
