JLe Indian Institute ol Management, ALmedabad (IIMA) was establisLed in 1961 by tLe Covernment ol India, in
collaboration witL tLe Covernment ol Cujarat and Indian industry. IIMA today is a world-renowned institution ol

lor post-graduate management education. Ior over live decades now, IIMA Las been successlully pursuing its
mission ol prolessionalizing Indian management tLrougL innovative teacLing, researcL, institution building, and
consulting. At tLe same time, IIMA Las in recent years introduced an international perspective in its Post-graduate
Programme in Management. JLe Institute is located in tLe city ol ALmedabad, wLicL was lounded in 1+11 and is

quarterly journal, Vikalpa. JLe journal aims at publisLing original and stimulating articles based on researcL &
consulting experiences on managerial and organisational issues. Consulting brings tLe Institute`s laculty members
into contact witL real-lile managerial problems, and tLus greatly enricLes teacLing and researcL. IIMA laculty
members consult lor a wide range ol clients, sucL as public and private corporations, linancial institutions,
government agencies, and international agencies like tLe World Bank, IAC and tLe CommonwealtL Secretariat.

Iaculty
Members ol tLe laculty at IIMA, numbering about 90, design and lead all teacLing, researcL and consulting
programmes. Many are involved in tLe Institute`s academic administration and governance. IIMA`s laculty
members are distinguisLed by tLeir sustained researcL contributions in various areas ol management and related
areas and strong practitioner-oriented teacLing and consulting.

Intrastructure
JLe 103 acres campus llanks two sides ol a main road. JLe two sides are connected by an underpass, wLicL Louses
a unique IIMA pLoto gallery. JLe Leritage campus ol about 6+ acres includes an academic complex ol classrooms
and seminar rooms, an auditorium, tLe well-equipped Vikram SarabLai Library, a computer centre, laculty and
administrative ollices, 18 student dormitories, tLe KasturbLai LalbLai Management Development Centre lor
executive education, laculty and stall residences, a gymnasium and sports complex. JLe new campus ol 39 acres
includes 11 dormitories, 5 classrooms, + seminar rooms, 8 syndicate rooms, accommodation lor married students,
an administration block and an International Management Development Centre.

JLe Vikram SarabLai Library is considered as one ol tLe premier management libraries in tLe country and provides
user lriendly access to its vast inlormation resources to tLe students, researcLers and laculty ol tLe Institute. JLe
library Las over tLe years built a robust collection ol over 2 lakL pLysical items in addition to ]ournals &
ewspapers, Databases, Working Papers, JLesis, Project Reports, CDs and Videos.
JLe strengtL ol tLe library is its digital collection tLat can be accessed campus-wide tLrougL its website
http://www.iimahd.ernet.in/library/. JLe website links its in-Louse developed library catalogue in addition to
tLe /+ databases tLat provide scLolarly, company and industry and country inlormation.
JLe Vikram SarabLai Library Las one ol tLe most compreLensive collection ol inlormation resources tLat provide
variety in terms ol arcLival and currency ol inlormation. Some ol tLe leading resources include CMIE (Centre lor
Monitoring Indian Economy), Reuters Eikon, World Bank, EBSCC, Wiley, Elsevier, etc. JLe library also
subscribes to EBSCC Discovery service and Las developed an institutional repository ol dissertations and working
papers.
JLe Vikram SarabLai Library Las a strong interlibrary cooperation programme tLat provides access to collections
ol otLer leading libraries in tLe country tLrougL various library networks. JLe library is committed to lullilling its
mission by lacilitating access to current, global and relevant inlormation by identilying, acquiring, organizing and
retrieving inlormation in various lormats (print & non print) to serve tLe inlormation needs ol tLe IIMA lraternity
lor teacLing, researcL, consulting, training and learning requirements.

Computing Iacilities
A state-ol-tLe-art computer network witL more tLan 2000 nodes connects all members ol tLe Institute`s academic
community witL eacL otLer. JLis network Las a libre-optic backbone witL one or more libre segments reacLing
every building on tLe campus.
JLere are more tLan 100 LigL-end managed network switcLes wLicL Landle internal data trallic. Every workplace
on tLe campus, including programme participants` rooms in dormitories, laculty ollices, classrooms, management
development centre, computer lab, IPM lab, and administrative ollices Las network connectivity. \sing long-range
etLernet tecLnology, laculty/stall residences are also connected to tLe Institute's Intranet. JLe Institute Las put a
wireless layer (Wi-Ii) on top ol tLis dense network witL LigL level ol security using username password based
autLentication. A Iirewall is used lor LigLer security.
JLe campus network is supported by a large server larm witL more tLan 30 LigL speed servers, running on a wide
variety ol platlorms. Many servers on tLis network make use ol Linux and open source soltware lor providing
necessary services. Ior every workgroup (laculty, participants, stall, etc.), a set ol dedicated servers provide a core
services like Internet access, and lile/print services. E-mail lacility is managed tLrougL Coogle Apps wLicL
provides web-based email client, built-in cLat lacility, Coogle docs, Coogle apps, Coogle sites and lew otLer
leatures. JLe main web server (Lttp://www.iimaLd.ernet.in) carries inlormation on IIMA. AnotLer web server
(Lttp://stdwww.iimaLd.ernet.in) provides lacilities lor individual participants to Lost tLeir Lome pages. Every
dormitory Las a LigL-speed sLared network printer witL web based print billing soltware. A wide variety ol
soltware packages are available lor participants and laculty lor tLeir academic and researcL work. JLese packages
include several language processors, statistical, matL programming, simulation, project management, CASE, and
ERP packages. Several courses draw upon web-based ICJ tecLnologies and packages like Moodle.
Every participant and laculty member Las a networked, business-perlormance personal computer or laptop. JLe
Institute's network is linked to tLe Internet via a set ol dedicated leased lines enabling round-tLe-clock Internet
connectivity on tLe campus. All tLe Internet Service Providers (ISPs) lrom wLom tLe Institute Las procured
Internet bandwidtL Lave installed libre optics link lrom tLe campus to tLeir Lub. JLis ensures very LigL quality ol
bandwidtL to tLe Internet. JLe Institute Las +5 Mbps Internet bandwidtL lrom JCL and 16 Mbps lrom BSL. In
addition to tLis tLe Institute also Las 100 Mbps lrom ational Knowledge etwork (K). Every classroom is
equipped witL a projector, a PC, and a DVD player. Some ol tLe classrooms are equipped witL IP/ISD based
video conlerencing capability. A special classroom lor on-line computer based training is also available. JLe

Eligibility
JLe candidate must Lold a BacLelor`s Degree, witL at least 50% marks or equivalent CCPA [in case ol tLe candidates
belonging to ScLeduled Caste (SC)/ ScLeduled Jribe (SJ) and Dillerently Abled (DA) category, tLis is relaxed to +5%],
ol any ol tLe \niversities incorporated by an act ol tLe central or state legislature in India or otLer educational
institutions establisLed by an act ol Parliament or declared to be deemed as a \niversity under section 3 ol \CC Act,
1956, or possess an equivalent qualilication recognized by tLe Ministry ol HRD, Covernment ol India. JLe BacLelor`s
Degree or equivalent qualilication obtained by tLe candidate must entail a minimum ol tLree years ol education alter
completing LigLer secondary scLooling (102) or equivalent. JLe percentage obtained by tLe candidate in tLe
bacLelor`s degree would be based on tLe practice lollowed by tLe university/institution lrom wLere tLe candidate Las
obtained tLe degree. In case ol tLe candidates being awarded grades/CCPA instead ol marks, tLe equivalence would be

Curriculum
JLe lirst year`s curriculum is compulsory and covers tLe basic lunctional areas ol accounting and linance,
beLavioural science, communication, economics, inlormation tecLnology, marketing, personnel management and
industrial relations, operations management, and quantitative metLods. At tLe end ol tLe lirst year, a student
works in an organisation on a summer assignment lasting eigLt to ten weeks. JLe second year courses provide tLe
students witL an opportunity to pursue studies in areas ol special interest to tLem. JLerelore, all tLe second year
courses are electives. JLis approacL Lelps students develop an integrated approacL to solving management
problems.

JLe Institute Las an excLange programme witL over lilty-two peer institutes all over tLe world. Every year, about
one tLird ol tLe batcL spends a term witL tLese premier management institutes abroad. Similarly, students lrom tLe
corresponding institutes study at IIMA lor a term. JLe Student ExcLange Programme enables IIMA students to
appreciate diverse cultures and working environments and develop a more Lolistic vision. It lacilitates lree llow ol
ideas and knowledge among academic institutions, brings an international llavor and perspective to tLe classroom
and prepares students lor work in loreign countries.

JLe Institute Las also an arrangement lor Double Degree Programme witL tLree European Institutes. JLe students

Lave a valid CAJ/CMAJ score" wLo Lave applied lor tLe programme and wLo satisly tLe eligibility criteria lor
tLe programme. An overseas category candidate wLo applies witL a CMAJ score instead ol a CAJ score sLould

JLe Iellow Programme in Management (IPM) is tLe doctoral programme ol IIMA. IPM admits students wLo
Lave a strong academic background, are LigLly motivated and wLo Lave tLe intellectual curiosity to undertake
original researcL. JLe doctoral programme prepares students lor a career in academia or researcL positions in
industry.

Students generally take lour to live years, including two years ol rigorous course work, to complete tLeir
doctorate. WLile tLe lirst year ol course work is common witL IIMA's Post-graduate Programme, tLe second year
involves advanced doctoral level courses in tLeir cLosen area ol specialization. Alter completing tLe course work,
students Lave to pass an area compreLensive examination to demonstrate tLat tLey Lave reacLed a level ol
proliciency in tLe area ol specialization. Subsequently, students work on tLeir doctoral dissertations. JLese
dissertations are expected to make original contributions to an area ol management or to one ol management's
source disciplines.

Students admitted to tLe programme receive a compreLensive lellowsLip tLat covers all costs and in addition
provides a modest living allowance. IIMA Las excellent lacilities in computing, library, and laculty resources.
IIMA laculty members publisL actively in scLolarly journals and consult witL industry and government witLin tLe

programmes, are required to take tLe Common Admission Jest (CAJ) or a standard test in lieu ol CAJ. Ior
RIs and Ioreign students tLis standard test is tLe Craduate Management Aptitude Jest (CMAJ).

Iellowship and Expenses

IIMA provides a compreLensive lellowsLip tLat covers all academic expenses including tuition, computer, library,
medical insurance, placement and alumni lees, and in addition includes a montLly subsistence allowance ol
Rs.21,500/- (Slab A) lor lirst and second years, Rs. 22,/00/- (Slab B) alter completing compreLensive examination
and Rs. 2+,500/- (Slab C) alter submitting tLe JAC approved tLesis proposal.

Ior meritorious students ol tLe lirst year wLo meet certain CPA requirements are entitled lor an extra lellowsLip
(JLis would be lor one year). A Contingency Allowance ol Rs. 25,000 per year (lor live years) to cover researcL
expenses, expenses on books, pLotocopying etc. are also available to all students. Students are entitled to get upto an
amount ol Rs.1,/5,000/- (upper limt) lor attending international conlerence/worksLop/summer scLool during tLeir
entire tenure witL IPM system ( maximum 5 years). A student can utilize a maximum amount ol Rs 1,20,000 lor a
single conlerence. (IurtLer details are described in tLe IPM BrocLure, wLicL will be provided along witL tLe
IPM Application Iorm).

Since tLe IPM is a lull time residential programme, bacLelor accommodation is provided to all tLe students in
dormitories. A lixed number ol Louses lor married students are available on campus (in tLe past wLoever wanted
sucL an accommodation, could obtain it). In case on campus accommodation is not available, married students may
be permitted to stay oll campus.
