Introduction
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello, and welcome to my FAQ on the XIII Mushrooms! I am writing this
because I have some free time and really enjoy talking and writing about
Kingdom Hearts. The XIII Mushrooms are one of the biggest side quests in
this game, so this will give you some info on them and have the strategies
for beating each one! These strategies have been compiled from myself,
posts on the FM message board, and various videos on the internet.

*If you have any important information about the mushrooms you think people
should know, or if you have alternate strategies for the mushrooms, please
email me. If it's good, it will be added and you will be credited.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
-While you may be getting items and weapons from the mushrooms if you come
close to reaching the goal, you still haven't truly beaten them. You will
know when you have truly won if fireworks shoot out and confetti drops as
it's giving you the items.
-The synthesis items you get from the XIII mushrooms depend on how well you
did on their challenge. There are C Rank, B Rank, A Rank, and S Rank items.
-There are 5 staves and 5 shields obtainable from the XIII Mushrooms, depending
on how well you did on their challenge, and how lucky you get.
-The XIII Mushrooms are in no way related or affiliated with the XIII Order.
They are paradoic in nature and shouldn't be taken seriously or tried to be
related to the plot of this or future Kingdom Hearts games.

II. The XIII Mushroom's Strategies..................................(ii000)

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
=============================================================================
II. A. Mushroom I...................................................(iia00)
=============================================================================
Goal: Hit the mushroom 70 times in the time limit.
Location: The World That Never Was - Memory's Skyscraper
(Where you fought Roxas.)
Drops: Staves
So, the first mushroom is a decent challenge, but nothing too bad if you know
what to do.
For this Mushroom, the trick is to be able to pull off a finisher very quickly,
because it only gives you 9 hits at a time, and finishers are the fastest way
to deal that many hits. Unequip all Combo Plus abilities you have, and equip
all the Combo Minus abilities you have. If you have Fenrir, equip that too.
Go up to the mushroom, drive into Wisdom Form, and press Triangle. You need
to use the Reversal RC in this fight to get behind the mushroom, and have
it be confused. You will know when it's confused when it stops moving. The
minumum number times you can use Reversal before it gets confused is two.
Once it's confused and you're behind it (usually), use Wisdom Shot (Circle)
until you hit it 9 times.
The mushroom knows how to use Reversal too, so it'll try to counter yours by
staying in front of you. Use the analog stick to make sure you're using
Reversal int he same direction, so you don't just go to the right and left of
it over and over without ever getting behind it.
If the mushroom sees you, it'll get mad and charge you. If this happens, then
start over, because the time given is very little (it's only 30 seconds!) and
it leaves no room for error.
This may take a few tries, but once you get the hang of it, it isn't that
bad.
=============================================================================
II. B. Mushroom II..................................................(iib00)
=============================================================================
Goal: Avoid its magic attacks 80 times.
Location: Halloween Town - Christmas Tree Plaza (Where you fought the
Experiment.)
Drops: Shields
Have Reflega in your shortcut for this one.
The easiest way to complete this mushroom's challenge is to use Final Form.
Jump up and press and hold Square, without using the analog stick, and Sora
will hang in the air like a puppet, with his 2 keyblades spinning in front of
him. These keyblades will smack those magic shots right back at the mushroom,
without you having to do anything! You have to always be facing the mushroom
though, because your keyblades will only protect your front, so when he moves,
you adjust the direction you're facing. Whenever you hit the ground, jump back
up and repeat.
When you see it shoot a bunch at you in a circular shape, use Reflega and they
will all shoot back and hit it. Hitting it with it's own magic (which you
should always be doing with this strategy) increases your score even more than
just dodging them.
An alterinative way of beating this Mushroom is by using plain old guard and
Reflect, or using Limit Form's superior guard, but these methods are much more
difficult.
Overall, one of the easiest mushrooms.
=============================================================================
II. C. Mushroom III.................................................(iic00)
=============================================================================
Goal: Score 450 points by collecting the orbs it drops.
Location: Beast's Castle - Bridge (where you fought Xaldin.)
Drops: Staves
Now, this is a pretty hard one. Equip all the Draw abilities Sora, Donald, and
Goofy have, and equip the Follow the Wind keychain (the one you get from Port
Royal). Glide is a necessity and Quick Run would be great to have.
After hitting Triangle, the mushroom floats up and starts dropping orbs. It
is slow at first, so try and get as many as you can. It'll start flying around
the Bridge, so always be close on it's tail with Glide. What you really need to
watch out for is when it drops giant clumps of orbs at once. These are vital
to getting the needed score, so always be there when they are dropped. After a
while, you should get a feel of how long the intervals are before it drops a
big clump.
Try to absorb all the orbs in the air as they're being dropped, but if you're
on the ground, and the orbs are dropped fairly close to you, you Quick Run to
get there before they disappear, because they disappear very quickly.
Another way to quickly absorb the orbs is to use Wisdom form and use the
strategy above, minus the gliding part.
This one might take many tries, but you sure feel good once you do it.
=============================================================================
II. D. Mushroom IV..................................................(iid00)
=============================================================================
Goal: Kill 85 mushrooms without getting hit.
Location: The Land of Dragons - Palace Gate (Where you fought Shan-Yu.)
Drops: Shields
This has a fairly simple concept. Use Wisdom Form and make big circles around
the arena while using Wisdom Shot (Circle). Try to not use the Lock On feature
because you'll usually want to kill the closest ones to you, and the Auto Lock
feature chooses those first. Always be moving AWAY from the appearing
mushrooms, because they'll jump at you and slide on the ground, and they move
pretty far.
The MAX score you can get it 100, and that isn't too hard to get, because this
one really shouldn't be too much trouble for you.
=============================================================================
II. E. Mushroom V...................................................(iie00)
=============================================================================
Goal: Wake the mushroom within 10 seconds.
Location: Agrabah - The Cave Of Wonders: Treasure Room (The room with the
gold after the Chasm of Challenges).
Drops: Staves
This mushroom can be very, very aggravating. It has regenerating health, and
4 bars of it. I found that the easiest way to go about waking this mushroom is
by unequipping all Combo Plus Abilties, and equiping all Combo Minus abilties,
and using Fenrir. Use ground combos (err, finishers) in Limit Form to deal
some major damage. Tap Circle as fast as you possibly can to make sure you
are pulling these moves off as fast as possible, because that is important.
I had to use accessories to boost my strength to 49 before I could complete
this mushroom.
And alternative way of waking this mushroom, for those of you at a higher
level, is to go into Final form with your two strongest keyblades and little
to no Air Combo Plusses, and do aerial combos.
This mushroom is very difficult, so don't feel bad if you don't get it. Work
on raising your strength to at least 49 and use the strategy above and you
should be fine.
=============================================================================
II. F. Mushroom VI..................................................(iif00)
=============================================================================
Goal: Kill all the mushrooms in 45 seconds.
Location: Olympus Coliseum - Underworld Caverns: Atrium (Where you fought
Demyx's water clones for the first time.)
Drops: Shields
There are many strategies you can use here, but I like to make it simple.
Stock up on Ethers and make them one of your shortcuts, as well as Thundaga.
Equip keyblades high in magic to your regular and Final Form slots.
After pressing Traingle, hit the first one with your keyblades, and then after
that, just lock on to whatevers on screen and use Thundaga. Usually it'll take
out more than one at a time. Whenever you are low on magic, use an Ether and
your MP meter will be full again. Try to use an Ether before your magic
actually runs out, because if it's just starting to regenerate, it'll take
two to get it back to full.
Using this strategy makes this one of the easiest mushrooms.
=============================================================================
II. G. Mushroom VII.................................................(iig00)
=============================================================================
Goal: Kill the mushroom in 10 seconds.
Location: Twilight Town - Tunnelway (Where Roxas fought the fake Vivis.)
Drops: Staves
This is a very difficult mushroom... Until you figure out what to do that is.
Place Reflega in your shortcut menu, and head over to the mushroom. Transform
into Final Form, and then press triangle. This is a very strange mushroom, it
runs around, and if it touches you, you get thrown, and it keeps coming at you.
Jump above it as soon as you 'activate' it, and use Reflega above it's head.
Once you fall to the floor, keep using Reflega, constantly. You may get hit
once or twice in the process, but you'll be doing a ton of damage. Just use
Reflega until it's dead, and that's it.
It might take a few tries, but it's not too bad.
=============================================================================
II. H. Mushroom VIII................................................(iih00)
=============================================================================
Goal: Juggle the mushroom by hitting it in the air 85 times without letting it
fall to the ground.
Location: Twilight Town - The Tower (Where you first met Pete.)
Drops: Shields
Whew, here we are, perhaps the hardest mushroom. For this one, you will need to
equip the Horizontal Slash ability, Trinity Limit ability, and the Fatal Crest
keychain, for it's Berserk Charge Ability, and unequip all MP Haste and MP
Charge abilities you might have on.
Make sure Trinity Limit is a pre-selection in your Limit menu, and then
go up to the mushroom (it's stuck in the ground) and use up all your magic
however you want (I would recommend using Curaga). Wait until your
recharging MP meter and the beginning of the Drive Guage line up perfectly
(which means your MP recharge should be about half done). Then pull it out of
the ground with Triangle.
Do regular air combos on it until it shoots up high into the air. When it comes
back down towards you (you're still in the air too), hit it one more time, and
then start mashing Square, which is using your Horizontal Slash ability. Stay
locked onto it and keep hitting square, because it might shoot out a little
ways from you, but you should still be able to catch up with it and hit it.
Having it against an invisible wall or corner can be helpful.
Once your MP meter is recharged, you chould have around 75-80 hits on it. Do
a normal aerial combo on it, and it'll shoot far out away from you. Very
quickly select Trinity Limit, and press Cricle. This'll get you around 8 extra
hits on it, and should put you past or right on 85.
An alternative way of beating this mushroom would be to equip the Fatal
Crest keyblade, then drive into Wisdom form and pull it out of the ground. Use
thundaga on it until you run out of MP, then shoot it with your never ending
Wisdom Shot. once you get your MP back, repeat the process.
Don't give up if you're having trouble with this one, because luck is a pretty
big factor in it.
=============================================================================
II. I. Mushroom IX..................................................(iii00)
=============================================================================
Goal: Spin the mushroom 75 times without letting it stop.
Location: Hollow Bastion (Radiant Garden) - Castle Gate (Where you fought
Demyx.)
Drops: Staves
Another relativly easy one. Have Thundaga on your shortcut menu and head in.
Drive into Wisdom and press Triangle on it. Immediatly use up all of the
Thundaga your MP wil allow by casting it on the mushrooms, and then shoot it
with Wisdom Shot. This can also be done with fire.
You may find that having Finisher Plus abilities on might be helpful, so
equip them and Rumbling Rose if you're having trouble.
=============================================================================
II. J. Mushroom X...................................................(iij00)
=============================================================================
Goal: Kill the real mushroom in 55 seconds.
Location: Port Royal - Isla De Muerta: Moonlight Nook (The room before where
you fought Barbossa.)
Drops: Shields
Well, if you're anything like me, this could end up being the most frustrating
mushroom encounter of all.
It's a rather simple game really, follow the real one and hit it when they
stop moving. Too bad they moe very fast and are often hard to follow with
the camera, and the fact that you glide around (unwantedly, sometimes) in
Final Form.
Yes, you DO need to use Final Form, because like Mushroom I, the real mushroom
will only let you deal so much damage to it before it mixes itself up again,
and Final Form is the quickest way to deal a lot of damage.
So, the trick to doing this mushroom is simple. As soon as they start moving,
hit pause. Then hit it again, then again quickly. That way you can follow the
mushroom in frames, and it isn't nearly as hard. When you think you have the
right one, go directly in front of (or behind, I guess) it, and attack it.
Jumping before attacking probably wouldn't be a good a idea unless it
happens to be one on the end, because with FF's wide range, chances are you
might hit another mushroom, and it'll believe you chose the wrong one.
This one might take a lot of tries, but don't give up, you're almost done!
=============================================================================
II. K. Mushroom XI..................................................(iik00)
=============================================================================
Goal: Reduce the counter above the mushroom to zero in 19 seconds.
Location: Timeless River - Waterway (Where you got the Cornerstone back from
Pete's boat.)
Drops: Staves
Well, this is a very easy one.
Equip all the Finisher Plus and Combo Minus abilities you have, while un-
equipping all your Combo Plus abilities. Also, equip your Rumbling Rose
keychain.
Drive into Wisdom, and then 'activate' it. Now just use Wisdom Shot while
heading over to a side of the arena, and stay there, shooting it with
Wisdom Shot's finishers. Always stay locked on to it, and if it jumps really
close to you, try to make distance between you and it.
If for whatever reason you may be having trouble, try equipping the Fatal Crest
keychain, then use up all your magic and abuse it's Berserk Charge ability in
Wisdom Form. Overall, a very easy mushroom, especially when compared to X and
VIII.
=============================================================================
II. L. Mushroom XII.................................................(iil00)
=============================================================================
Goal: Kill 40 mushrooms in 30 seconds.
Location: Twilight Town - The Old Mansion (The mansion's front yard.)
Drops: Shields
Whew, last one! And, you guessed it, it's done by using Wisdom Form. This
challenge just consists of a bunch of mushroms that appear randomly in the area
that you have to kill. Try killing each one by pressing Circle only a few
times, that way you don't end up doing a long finisher on a pillar and waste
time. After you kill one, press L1 to lock on to whatever's closest, get into
range of it, and kill that one, and then just repeat. Staying in the center
of the area is probably wise, because you'll have access to most if not all
the mushrooms, and not just the ones on one side. Using Thundaga to kill
enemies you can't see, but lock on to anyway is also probably a smart thing
to do as well.
If doing just a few shots at time is hard for you (you should know the drill
by now), equip Fatal Crest, use up your MP, and abuse it's Berserk Charge
ability in Wisdom.
Thankfully, the last of the mushrooms was easy, huh?
=============================================================================
II. M. Mushroom XIII................................................(iim00)
=============================================================================
Goal: None
Location: Hollow Bastion - The Great Maw (Where the 1000 Heartless battle was.)
Drops: Winner's Proof keyblade; Proof Of Tranquility; Crown (Bronze, Silver, or
Gold, depending on whether or not you have beaten the Lingering Spirit
[Enigmatic Soldier] or XIII Order Limit Cut [Data] Battles before this.)
Oh wait, there's one more mushroom?!?! Yes, but there is no challenge, no goal
to complete... Only prizes to be collected.
If you have completed the other XII mushrooms, they will all appear in this
area and raise there hands in the air, and a light will shine down. Run up to
them and press Triangle, and Mushroom XIII will come down! Press Triangle on
it to reap your rewards!
Congratulations, you've completed the XIII Mushrooms side quest! Good job.
