Information and Communications Technology

ICT Teacher: Mrs Watt

Semester 1 Grade 6

ICT for Creating

During Semester One the students safely and independently used a range of skills,
procedures, equipment and functions to process different data types and produce accurate
and suitably formatted products to suit different purposes and audiences.

They worked collaboratively in teams throughout Term 2 to produce an advertisement using
iMovie and a minimum of 4 apps from the iPad that demonstrated their knowledge and
understandings about being a safe and responsible digital citizen. They began to use ICT
presentation conventions, incorporating them into their information product where appropriate.
They were required to evaluate their advertisement against the agreed criteria and, with
assistance, refine their work to meet both the criteria and audience needs.

They continued to develop and maintain their digital bank of evidence using their individual
Blog that demonstrates their on-going learning. This required the students evaluating, selecting
and organising files that showcased their learning and that are up-to-date and structured in an
orderly way. They have applied file management procedures that assist them in securing their
files (for example, backing up on storage media such as memory sticks), and in allowing the
easy retrieval of files by using naming conventions that are meaningful.

ICT for Communicating

During Semester One the students have used email (using the Catholic Education Victoria
Network - MyMail suite), websites and Blogs to acquire from, or share information with, peers
and family members. When emailing, they successfully attach files and they apply protocols for
sending and receiving electronic information.

CYBERSAFETY

During Term One, the students continued to develop their knowledge about being a safe and
responsible digital citizen. They participated in the online resource CyberQuoll which is an
internet safety resource for upper primary school students provided by the Australian
Communications and Media Authority (the ACMA). It is designed to empower students to
safely use the internet. The program is designed to communicate sound advice on how best to
manage online risks, so the students experiences are safe and positive. Throughout the
CyberQuoll resource there are references to the Golden Rules. These are survival rules
arranged thematically by emailing, safe searching, chatting online or netiquette. The students
were required to electronically take notes and record key messages/ Golden Rules. The
students were able to use this information to assist them in producing their advertisement
about being a safe and responsible digital citizen.
