Chapter III

Methodology

III.1 Research Framework
Division of Public Affairs & Logistics (DUUL) handles all logistics required in Bandung.
Stationery Office (ATK), consumption, blood transfusion equipment and etc. In this research,
writer focus on Blood Bag. Blood Bag consists of 4 types according to their respective functions.
DUUL need to make provision of Blood Bag to receive donors who come and meet the capacity
of the blood stock that meets the patient's request. Provision of Blood bag is done by using a
standard inventory management PMI Bandung which related to the stock of existing and forecast
demand for the next few days. After learning both patterns are the scale parameters will be obtained
from each blood type.

The use of blood needs to be known in order to identify patterns in the blood demand PMI
Bandung. Then, note also how the existing of Blood bag inventory management of PMI Bandung.
How the characteristics and performance of inventory management strategies will be identified by
writer. Furthermore, knowing the identification of several factors such as lead times and customer
service levels. Then after these factors are known, the pattern of demand for blood will be analyzed
ROP and safety stock. So that will be known to the optimal inventory level of Blood bag as
compared with stock Blood Bag available in PMI Bandung.



III.2 Research Method
III.2.1 Data Gathering
This study uses data collected by the writer. The writer divides the data into two categories:
primary data and secondary data

1. Primary Data

Primary data is data obtained directly from the source. Primary data came from
observations or interviews with informants. In this research, the writer uses primary
data from the Division of Public Affairs & Logistics PMI Bandung.

2. Secondary Data

Secondary data is data that has been arranged in the form of written documents.
Secondary data were obtained from the documents and management reports PMI

Bandung, especially in DUUL and administration. Secondary data also using some
literature that supports such as books, newspapers, magazines, articles, journals and
the results of previous studies.
III.2.2 Data analysis Method
First step create process business of DUUL based on data gathered from observation and
interview. Business process will help the writer more easily to identify the existing
inventory management of blood bags in PMI Bandung. After that, collect data of historical
blood usage to forecast demand and historical data of Blood bags order so the writer will
get some factors about lead time and CSL. Then, next to formulate the optimal inventory
management from data gathered. The result will be compared to existing inventory
management system.

III.3 Solution
After the data processing step, the next step it to generated solution. The solution is based on
theoretical foundation and is made for the sole purpose of improving the inventory management
of Blood Bags in PMI Bandung.
III.4 Conclusion and Recommendation
This step is conclusion of all the research based on previous step that will answer the stated
research questions which also contain recommendations regarding the steps are need to be done in
order to implement the solution in the inventory management of Blood Bags in PMI Bandung
