2 Strategic Planning
Candidates facilitate the design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of
technology-infused strategic plans.

Reflection

The SIP Analysis and Action/Evaluation Plan were written to work toward my ultimate goal of
facilitating design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of a technology-infused
strategic plan at my school. For the SIP Analysis, I looked closely at my schools current School
Improvement Plan (SIP), analyzed its goals, and determined what was missing or needed to be modified
to better promote the use of technology at my school. I completed this project independently. The
Action/Evaluation Plan outlines five goals based off of my findings in the Strengths, Weaknesses,
Opportunities, Threats (SWOT) Analysis I conducted about the current use of technology in my school. I
carefully examined our greatest weaknesses and designed and developed potential solutions using our
areas of strength and opportunity. The five goals I outline in the Action/Evaluation Plan create a realistic
method for implementing the technology change we wish to see in our school. I completed this project
independently.
Standard 1.2, Strategic Planning, establishes the expectations for candidates to facilitate the design,
development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans.
These artifacts demonstrate my skills in this area. The SIP Analysis demonstrates my ability to analyze
existing plans for the purpose of designing and developing new technology-infused strategic plans.
Specifically in the SIP Analysis, I explain what technology components are missing and how technology
could be integrated more effectively to benefit the current goals of the SIP. The Action/Evaluation Plan
demonstrates my ability to facilitate the implementation of a technology-infused strategic plan. The
Action/Evaluation Plan clearly lays out the strategies I will use to accomplish five specific goals, along
with specific information regarding the Timeline, Funding, and Person(s) Responsible for implementing
each strategy. The Action/Evaluation Plan details how I will facilitate communication during the
implementation. I not only identify the person that will communicate various pieces of the plan, but also
identify by which means the person will communicate. To name a few, the technology implementation
communication modes include email, collaborative wikis, staff drive access, phone calls, and face-to-face
conversation. Finally, the Action/Evaluation Plan includes success indicators and evaluation methods for
each goal as a way to evaluate the progress of each goal and my effectiveness in implementing each
strategy.
Completing this SIP Analysis and Action/Evaluation Plan helped me to see just how many steps are
involved in revising an SIP to include meaningful technology goals and facilitating the implementation of
those goals. There are many steps involved in effectively designing and developing a technology-infused
strategic plan and then facilitating the implementation of the plan, and the plan will most definitely suffer
if any of the steps are skimmed over.
In the future, to improve my skills in strategic planning, I would like to tackle a collaborative technology
plan with teachers at my school. I feel we all learn more when presented with authentic challenges when
provided the opportunity to work in a team. I also feel the plan will be better received and implemented if
teachers feel they had a part in creating it. This will increase their feelings of ownership, accountability,
and motivation.
The work that went into creating this artifact will impact school improvement. The school does not
currently have a technology vision or plan in place, and the Action/Evaluation Plan will serve as a
jumping off point for a new Technology Team. This team will not have any experience in creating
technology visions or plans, and my work provides a foundation to build upon and modify to best fit the
needs of our school.
