The Ultimate Guide
An annotated bibliography is a
summary of your sources, usually to
organise research or evaluate your
sources.

Annotated bibliographies allow you
to demonstrate that you have
consulted a variety of timely and
reputable sources.
An annotated bibliography is a
list of reference sources and
critical summaries/evaluations
of the citations.
Definition
Provide the citation information for the
source following the rules of a
particular bibliography style (for
example, Harvard or APA). Consult
your diary or Senior Library website for
guides on how to write a citation.

For example:
Dawe, B. (2006). Sometime Gladness: collected
poems 1954-2005. Melbourne: Pearson Education
Australia.

Step 1
Provide a brief (100-200 word) descriptive
and evaluative summary of each source.
You could mention:
Audience, purpose, tone, media
The relevance of the source
Summarise the unique findings or
arguments
Make a judgement on the quality of the
source
Research methods are they appropriate
or could their sources be questionable?
Step 2
Dawe, B. (2006). Sometimes Gladness: collected poems 1954-
2005. Melbourne: Pearson Education Australia.
Bruce Dawes poetry explores a range of human experience,
often drawing on the voice of the person in the street, and
using small episodes to make important points. His poems
can be funny, witty and satirical on the one hand, yet lyrical,
poignant, sad and tender on the other. The poems highlight
the value and warmth to be found in everyday experiences.
Hardship is acknowledged, but life is affirmed, and the poems
explore the ways in which feelings of identity and belonging
may be shaped by experience.

Example 1
Bech, R. & Sydney B. (1990) The Art of Ritual : A
Guide to Creating and Performing Your Own Rituals
for Growth and Change. Celestial Arts.

I generally do not care for this type of book, but
this is the best I've seen of what might be
described as secular or "psycho-social" ritual. The
authors present a good overview of what rituals
do for us psychologically. They draw from works
by Joseph Campbell and Carl Jung. The authors
have created new and imaginative rituals to
inform everyday life.

Example 2
Put your citations in alphabetical order.
