WELCOME FAMILY

This newsletter will provide information on

the upcoming 2014 Nolan-Chambers-Carter Family
Reunion to be held in Windsor, Ontario. The 2014
Family Reunion Planning Committee has
determined that a newsletter will be a great way to
communicate with members of our family on a
frequent basis regarding the plans for the upcoming
reunion. The Family Reunion Newsletter will provide
added information as plans solidify.
First, our family is very diverse. It is made of
peoples from Canada and the U.S., as well as
African and European heritages. We, the Planning
Committee would like to extend a warm welcome to
all of our family members. We look forward to
seeing and meeting every one of you who is
anticipating the upcoming family reunion.
Our last reunion was held in Atlanta Georgia in
2012, and was organized/hosted by our cousins
Veronica Easley, Anita Johnson, and other family
members residing in the Georgia and New York
States. Didnt they do a great job? It is our, (the
Windsor Nolan/Chambers/Carter host committees)
hope to make everyones trip to Windsor, Canada
worthy of your participation and support. We all will
learn something new about who we are, who we
were, and who we can be as a whole.
Second, we are looking for stories relating to our
family past and present. We are interested in
historical and meaningful information or funny
and/or wonderful experiences. These stories will
become records of the past that will be meaningful
for our future generations. The stories we share
may introduce us to someone from our past, or it
may inspire someone in the present.

OUR UPCOMING PLANS FOR
TRAVEL TO CANADA
Since this will be the first trip to Canada
for some of you, we want to help you as much
as we can with your travel plans. The 2014
Nolan-Chambers-Carter Reunion is a three day
event with activities taking place throughout the
weekend starting at 2:00 PM on Friday
(August 8
th
) until 2:00 PM Sunday (August
10
th
). This year we are anticipating a large turn-
out from both the U.S. and Canada Nolan-
Chambers-Carter Family branches.

These past few years the family reunions
involving the three family tree branches have
grown larger with every reunion. We anticipate
family members coming from Rochester,
Atlanta, Windsor, Toronto, and maybe even
further coastal regions.

Since you are coming to Canada, please
remember that you will need your passports or
passport cards to cross the border(s). American
citizens may apply for a passport card in lieu of
the traditional passport book for land and water
travel between the U.S. and Canada. Air travel,
and travel to other destinations, still requires
a passport book. The advantages of a passport

COST OF PARTICIPATING
The Family Reunion Core Committee is still in the investigation and planning phases of this
Endeavour. We are trying to get the cost established that will be required to put on such an event.
The Core Committee and Sub-Committees will need to take more time to figure out the expenses as
more details are figured out. The Committee is very aware costs & fees are a major concern for most
families. In order to address this concern, one of the considerations that are being reviewed by the
Committee is to offer an Optional Cost Package. More information on this subject matter will be
provided at a later date.

Meanwhile, families should start a savings for the upcoming Family Reunion Celebration. It is
anticipated that hotel rooms (double beds) will cost between $89.00 and $140.00 (Canadian) per night
plus an additional Canadian tax rate of 15%. The Family Reunion Committee is planning to have
various fund raising events to subsidize some of the expenses for food, refreshments and other event
activities during the reunion weekend.
card are its convenient wallet size and much lower cost. First time U.S. applicants can find information
and apply for either one at http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/passports/new.html.

Your main destination for travel will be Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Our home base will be at
Envisions Studios located at 952 McDougall Avenue, on the corner of Erie Street East (across the
street from Aunt Florence Logans house).

The Committee has contacted several hotels in the Windsor downtown area, for room availability. It is
the Reunion Host Committees intent to let everyone know what hotel(s) have the best group
rate/amenities by the end of March. There are limited hotels due to other city wide events that are
happening the same weekend.
Note: As hotel information becomes available, lodging
reservations need to be reserved as soon as possible.

Volunteer Helper Crew Sub-Committee: This Committee is looking for family members and friends
of the family to sign-up as members on the Volunteer Helper Crew Sub-Committee which is being
led by Mr. Gary Sims (gsims@live.ca). This group will be responsible for getting cooking equipment,
activity supplies, etc. to the reunion activity site locations prior to the event.

Food Planning Sub-Committee: The 2014 Committee is looking for volunteers to help! Mrs. Lydia
Sims is heading up this Sub-Committee - who is responsible for budgeting, arranging and getting
vendors & food supplies to the various locations where the family will be served food throughout the
Weekend. The "Food Planning" Sub-Committee is not expected to prepare any of the meals
personally, but rather getting (hiring) food providers / professional cooks or persons (outside of the
family) to perform those tasks. We want reunion family members to enjoy the celebration without
being burden down by working the weekend.

Entertainment Sub-Committee: This Sub-Committee group has no identified Champion (Leader) at
this time. However, this group is responsible for planning Friday and Saturday Evening Entertainment.
They will be responsible for soliciting bids to hire a Dance DJ and/or Musician(s) / group(s) to sing /
perform during evening activities. Another idea can be to arrange a family talent show, and solicit
family members as talent contestants to participate.

Games & Fun Sub-Committee: This Sub-Committee group also has no identified Champion at this
time. However, the Sub-Committee needs about seven to ten members to plan game activities during
the celebration. The Games & Fun Sub-Committee will be responsible for people to run the games,
planning a budget to get game activity supplies and awards (ribbons / trophies) etc.
Memo of Importance: The 2014 Nolan-Chambers-Carter Family Reunion is an event with
various activities and destinations that will have family members and their guests travelling
(voluntarily) to participate in event activities. It is important that every person has responsibly
insured each individual (adult & child) in your party with their own health and accidental
insurance coverage for the participation of all Family Reunion related activities and travel.
Please make sure you review your Health & Welfare insurance policy, and ensure that
your coverage is updated to your individual needs in Canada.

BRANCHING OUT
One thing we would like to do in our
newsletter is commemorate each branch. The
stories we tell will hopefully represent one of the
three family branches names. To start with the
commemoration, each of the three names will be
represented by a crest. Each topic pertaining to
that branch of the tree will be accompanied by their
representing crest.
The Family Reunion Core Committee is
planning various activities that are being
scheduled to take place all throughout the
Reunion Weekend at various locations
throughout Windsor and the surrounding areas.
The various destinations and activities are being
based upon the Family Heritage and the
Black Families settling in the Windsor Area.
Since there is limited time available, what we do
and see of interest on the Family Heritage
Tour will have to be limited as well. But, be
assured everyone will learn something and
enjoy the events that are being planned.

Our 2014 Family Reunion Theme is
Togetherness Will Unite Our Family Tree
Heritage.

This years Reunion Mission is The
preservation of the Nolan/Chambers/Carter
Family Heritage Tree.
We introduce to you, the Nolan Crest.

Next, we have the Chambers crest.

And finally, we have the Carters crest.
