Screw Holes
When you nstall the manboard, you have to place the manboard nto the chasss n the
correct drecton. The locatons of screws holes on the manboard are shown as below.
Refer above pcture to nstall standofs n the approprate locatons on chasss and then
screw through the manboard screw holes nto the standofs.
Important
To prevent damage to the manboard, any contact between the manboard crcut and
chasss or unnecessary standofs mounted on the chasss s prohbted.
Please make sure there s no metal components placed on the manboard or wthn
the chasss that may cause short crcut of the manboard.

CPU (Central Processng Unt)
When you are nstallng the CPU, make sure to nstall the cooler to prevent overheatng.
If you do not have the CPU cooler, consult your dealer before turnng on the computer.

Overheatng
Overheatng wll serously damage the CPU and system. Always make sure the coolng
fan can work properly to protect the CPU from overheatng. Make sure that you apply
an even layer of thermal paste (or thermal tape) between the CPU and the heatsnk to
enhance heat dsspaton.
Replacng the CPU
Whle replacng the CPU, always turn of the ATX power supply or unplug the power
supplys power cord from the grounded outlet frst to ensure the safety of CPU.
Overclockng
Ths manboard s desgned to support overclockng. However, please make sure your
components are able to tolerate such abnormal settng, whle dong overclockng. Any
attempt to operate beyond product specfcatons s not recommended. We do not guar-
antee the damages or rsks caused by nadequate operaton or beyond product spec-
fcatons.

CPU & Cooler Installaton
When you are nstallng the CPU, make sure the CPU has a cooler attached on the top
to prevent overheatng. Meanwhle, do not forget to apply some thermal paste on CPU

The button and the knob are used to adjust the FSB.

You can use them to change FSB clock at any tme under the operatng system. Ths
method does not need to nstall software or reboot. Please follow the steps below to
ncrease or decrease the FSB clock.
Press the OC Dal button to start adjustment. The OC Dal LED wll lght to ndcate

You can set the value of OC Dal Step n BIOS.

Enterng Setup
Power on the computer and the system wll start POST (Power On Self Test) process.
When the message below appears on the screen, press <DEL> key to enter Setup.
Press DEL to enter SETUP
If the message dsappears before you respond and you stll wsh to enter Setup, restart
the system by turnng t OFF and On or pressng the RESET button. You may also re-
start the system by smultaneously pressng <Ctrl>, <Alt>, and <Delete> keys.
Important
The tems under each BIOS category descrbed n ths chapter are under contnuous
update for better system performance. Therefore, the descrpton may be slghtly df-
ferent from the latest BIOS and should be held for reference only.
Upon boot-up, the 1st lne appearng after the memory count s the BIOS verson. It s
usually n the format:

1st dgt refers to BIOS maker as A = AMI, W = AWARD, and P = PHOENIX.
2nd - 5th dgt refers to the model number.

After enterng the Setup menu, the frst menu you wll see s the Man Menu.
Man Menu
The man menu lsts the setup functons you can make changes to. You can use the
arrow keys ( ) to select the tem. The on-lne descrpton of the hghlghted setup
functon s dsplayed at the bottom of the screen.
Sub-Menu
If you fnd a rght ponter symbol (as shown n the rght vew) ap-
pears to the left of certan felds that means a sub-menu can be
launched from ths feld. A sub-menu contans addtonal optons for
a feld parameter. You can use arrow keys ( ) to hghlght the
feld and press <Enter> to call up the sub-menu. Then you can use the control keys to
enter values and move from feld to feld wthn a sub-menu. If you want to return to the
man menu, just press the <Esc >.
General Help <F1>
The BIOS setup program provdes a General Help screen. You can call up ths screen
from any menu by smply pressng <F1>. The Help screen lsts the approprate keys to
use and the possble selectons for the hghlghted tem. Press <Esc> to ext the Help
screen.

Standard CMOS Features
The tems n Standard CMOS Features Menu nclude some basc setup tems. Use the
arrow keys to hghlght the tem and then use the <PgUp> or <PgDn> keys to select the
value you want n each tem.
Date (MM:DD:YY)
Ths allows you to set the system to the date that you want (usually the current date).
The format s <day><month> <date> <year>.
[day] Day of the week, from Sun to Sat, determned by BIOS. Read-
only.
[month] The month from Jan. through Dec.
[date] The date from 1 to 31 can be keyed by numerc functon keys.
[year] The year can be adjusted by users.
Tme (HH:MM:SS)
Ths allows you to set the system tme that you want (usually the current tme). The tme

IDE Prmary Master/ Slave & SATA1~7 & E-SATA

Advanced BIOS Features
Boot Sequence
Press <Enter> to enter the sub-menu.
1st/ 2nd Boot Devce
Ths tem allows you to set the frst/ second boot devce where BIOS attempts to load
the dsk operatng system.
Boot From Other Devce
Settng the opton to [Yes] allows the system to try to boot from other devce, f the
system fals to boot from 1st boot devce.
BIOS Flash Protecton
Ths functon protects the BIOS from accdental corrupton by unauthorzed users or
computer vruses. When enabled, the BIOS data cannot be changed when attempt-
ng to update the BIOS wth a Flash utlty. To successfully update the BIOS, you wll
need to dsable ths Flash BIOS Protecton functon. You should enable ths functon
at all tmes. The only tme when you need to dsable t s when you want to update the
BIOS. After updatng the BIOS, you should mmedately re-enable t to protect t aganst
vruses.
Full Screen Logo Dsplay
Ths tem enables ths system to show the company logo on the boot-up screen. Set-
tngs are:
[Enabled] Shows a stll mage (logo) on the full screen at boot.
[Dsabled] Shows the POST messages at boot.

Settng the tem to [Enabled] allows the system to boot wthn 10 seconds snce t wll
skp some check tems.
Boot Up Num-Lock LED
Ths settng s to set the Num Lock status when the system s powered on. Settng to
[On] wll turn on the Num Lock key when the system s powered on. Settng to [Of] wll
allow users to use the arrow keys on the numerc keypad.
IOAPIC Functon
Ths feld s used to enable or dsable the APIC (Advanced Programmable Interrupt
Controller). Due to complance wth PC2001 desgn gude, the system s able to run n
APIC mode. Enablng APIC mode wll expand avalable IRQ resources for the system.
MPS Table Verson
Ths feld allows you to select whch MPS (Mult-Processor Specfcaton) verson to be
used for the operatng system. You need to select the MPS verson supported by your
operatng system. To fnd out whch verson to use, consult the vendor of your operatng
system.
Prmary Graphcs Adapter
Ths settng specfes whch graphc card s your prmary graphcs adapter.
PCI Latency Tmer
Ths tem controls how long each PCI devce can hold the bus before another takes
over. When set to hgher values, every PCI devce can conduct transactons for a longer
tme and thus mprove the efectve PCI bandwdth. For better PCI performance, you
should set the tem to hgher values.
HPET
The HPET (Hgh Precson Event Tmers) s a component that s part of the chpset. You
can to enable t, and wll provde you wth the means to get to t va the varous ACPI
methods.
TCG/TPM Support
Settng the opton to [Yes] enables TPM (Trusted Platform Module) for the system.

The feld enables or dsables the feature of recordng the chasss ntruson status and
ssung a warnng message f the chasss s once opened. To clear the warnng mes-

CPU FAN
Ths tem s used to select the type of nstalled CPU FAN.
CPU Smart Fan Target
The manboard provdes the Smart Fan functon whch can control the CPU fan speed
automatcally dependng on the current temperature to keep t wth n a specfc range.
You can enable a fan target value here. If the current CPU fan temperature reaches to
the target value, the smart fan functon wll be actvated. It provdes several sectons to
speed up for coolng down automatcally.
SYS FAN 1/ 2 Control
These tems allow users to select how percentage of speed for the SYS FAN1/ 2.

Important
Type the password, up to eght characters n length, and press <Enter>. The password
typed now wll replace any prevously set password. You wll be prompted to confrm the
password. Retype the password and press <Enter>. You may also press <Esc> to abort
the selecton and not enter a password.
To clear a set password, just press <Enter> when you are prompted to enter the pass-
word. A message wll show up confrmng the password wll be dsabled. Once the
password s dsabled, the system wll boot and you can enter Setup wthout enterng
any password.
When a password has been set, you wll be prompted to enter t every tme you try to

controller run at 2T rate.

Ths feature s used to Integrate two 64-bt DCTs nto a 128-bt nterface.

Ths s a memory power-savng technology. When the system does not access mem-
ory over a perod of tme, t wll automatcally reduce the memory power supply.

Ths settng allows you to enable/dsable the MemClk Trstatng durng C3 and

Ths tem s used to enable/dsable the AMD OverDrve

These tems allow you to set the Hyper-Transport Lnk wdth. Settng to [Auto], the

Ths tem allows you to set the Hyper-Transport Lnk speed. Settng to [Auto], the sys-
tem wll detect the HT lnk speed automatcally.
Adjusted HT Lnk Frequency (MHz)
It shows the adjusted HT Lnk frequency. Read-only.
Adjust PCI-E Frequency (MHz)
Ths feld allows you to select the PCIE frequency (n MHz).
Auto Dsable DRAM/PCI Frequency
When set to [Enabled], the system wll remove (turn of) clocks from empty DRAM/ PCI
slots to mnmze the electromagnetc nterference (EMI).

These tems are used to adjust the voltage of CPU, Memory and chpset.
Spread Spectrum
When the manboards clock generator pulses, the extreme values (spkes) of the pulses
create EMI (Electromagnetc Interference). The Spread Spectrum functon reduces the
EMI generated by modulatng the pulses so that the spkes of the pulses are reduced
to fatter curves.
Important
If you do not have any EMI problem, leave the settng at [Dsabled] for optmal system
stablty and performance. But f you are plagued by EMI, select the value of Spread
Spectrum for EMI reducton.
The greater the Spread Spectrum value s, the greater the EMI s reduced, and the
system wll become less stable. For the most sutable Spread Spectrum value, please
consult your local EMI regulaton.
Remember to dsable Spread Spectrum f you are overclockng because even a slght
jtter can ntroduce a temporary boost n clock speed whch may just cause your over-
clocked processor to lock up.

M-Flash
== BIOS Update or Boot 2nd BIOS From USB drve==
M-Flash functon as
M-Flash functon allows you to fash BIOS from USB drve/ storage drve (FAT/ FAT32
format only), or allows the system to boot from the BIOS fle nsde USB drve (FAT/
FAT32 format only).
[Dsabled] Dsable M-Flash functon.
[BIOS Update] Flash BIOS va the USB/ Storage drve drectly. Update BIOS ROM
chp data from selected fle, whch was be download from ofcal
webste and must be saved n the root drectory of the USB/ Stor-
age drve. It only supports partcular fle name, whch s the ofcal
BIOS fle name from us.
[Boot] After allocated partcular BIOS fle, system wll boot from ths BIOS
fle whch saved n the root drectory of USB drve. System wll skp
MB ROM chp data and boot wth ths partcular BIOS nsde USB
drve. Note: ths opton s for USB drve only.

Load BIOS source Fle from
When the M-Flash functon as sets to [BIOS Update], ths tem s selectable. Use
ths tem to select partcular BIOS fle from the USB/ Storage (FAT/32 format only)
drve.
Boot 2nd BIOS from USB Drve
When the M-Flash functon as sets to [Boot] ], ths tem s selectable. Use ths tem
to select partcular BIOS fle from the USB drve.
== Backup BIOS to USB Drve ==
The followng felds are used to read the onboard BIOS ROM data, and save t to USB

Save Fle to Selected Devce
Please setup a specfc folder n specfc USB drve/ storage drve to save BIOS fle from
BIOS ROM chp data. Note: t only supports FAT/ FAT32 fle system drve.
Save Fle Name as
Please setup a specfc name for the BIOS fle, whch wll be saved nto the USB drve/
storage drve. Note: we suggest you usng the ofcal name as the default name.
Save Extend Fle Name as
Please setup a specfc extend name for the BIOS fle, whch wll be saved nto the USB
drve/ storage drve. Note: we suggest you usng [ROM] as default name.

Overclockng Profle
Overclockng Profle 1/ 2/ 3/ 4/ 5/ 6
These tems are used to save the current settngs to selected profle, and they are also
used to load the settngs from the selected profle.
OC Retry Count
When the overclockng s faled, settng ths tem to [5,7] wll allow system to reboot 5/ 7
tmes wth the overclockng confguraton. If the overclockng was faled every tme, the
system wll restore the defaults.

Load Fal-Safe/ Optmzed Defaults
The two optons on the man menu allow users to restore all of the BIOS settngs to the
default Fal-Safe or Optmzed values. The Optmzed Defaults are the default values set
by the manboard manufacturer specfcally for optmal performance of the manboard.
The Fal-Safe Defaults are the default values set by the BIOS vendor for stable system
performance.
When you select Load Fal-Safe Defaults, a message as below appears:
Selectng Ok and pressng Enter loads the BIOS default values for the most stable,
mnmal system performance.
When you select Load Optmzed Defaults, a message as below appears:
Selectng Ok and pressng Enter loads the default factory settngs for optmal system
performance.
The Realtek audo provdes 10-channel DAC that smul-
taneously supports 7.1 sound playback and 2 channels
of ndependent stereo sound output (multple streamng)
through the Front-Out-Left and Front-Out-Rght chan-
nels.

Installng the Realtek HD Audo Drver
You need to nstall the HD audo drver for Realtek audo codec to functon properly
before you can get access to 2-, 4-, 6-, 8- channel or 7.1+2 channel audo operatons.
Follow the procedures descrbed below to nstall the drvers for dferent operatng sys-
tems.
Installaton for Wndows

XP, you must nstall Wndows

XP Servce Pack3 or later before nstallng
the drver.
The followng llustratons are based on Wndows

dferent f you nstall the drvers n dferent operatng systems.
Insert the applcaton DVD nto the DVD-ROM drve. The setup screen wll automat-

Volume Adjustment

plugged n front or rear panel by adjust the bar.

The array of optons wll provde you a complete gudance of antcpated sound efect for
both output and nput devce.
Jack status panel
Ths panel depcts all render and capture devces currently connected wth your com-
puter. Addtonally, more applcatons would be found at the opton of Devce Advanced
Settngs.
Auto popup dalog
When you plug nto the devce at the jack, a dalogue wndow wll pop up askng you
whch devce s current connected.
As you know, each jack corresponds to ts default settng, you can refer to the next sec-

The ntegrate one SATA host controller separately, and

support RAID functon for performance and relablty.
SB850 SATA RAID provdes support for RAID 0 (Strp-
ng), RAID 1 (Mrrorng), RAID 10 (Strpng & Mrrorng)
& RAID 5 (strpng wth party). RAID 0 greatly mproves
hard dsk I/O performance by concurrently strpng data
across multple drves. RAID 1 makes sure data s not
lost f a drve fals as data s smultaneously wrtten to
two drves. Drves confgured for RAID Strpng are sad
to form a RAID 0 set, whle drves confgured for RAID
Mrrorng are sad to form a RAID 1 set. RAID 10 s mple-
mented as a mrrored array whose segments are RAID
0 arrays. RAID 10 has same fault tolerance as mrrorng
and reduces overhead by strpng. It needs at least four
drves to form a RAID 10. RAID 5 defnes technques for
party data.

Creatng and deletng RAID set and performng other RAID settng up operatons are
done n the RAID BIOS. Durng bootup, a screen smlar to the one below wll appear for
about few seconds. Press <Ctrl-F> to enter RAID Opton ROM utlty.

LD Vew / LD Defne Menu (Creatng RAID)
The selecton of the RAID confguraton should be based upon factors ncludng perfor-
mance, data securty, and the number of drves avalable. It s best to carefully consder
the long-term role of the system and plan the data storage strategy. RAID sets can be
created ether automatcally, or to allow the greatest fexblty, manually.
Press 2 on the Man Menu screen to enter the LD Vew Menu. 1.
And then press [Ctrl + C] keys to enter the LD Defne Menu. Use the space key
to choose a RAID mode (RAID 0/ 1/ 10/ 5) and use the arrow key to move to the
Drves Assgnments wndow.

Strpe Block Sze, the default 64KB s best for most applcatons. RAID 0 or 10
only.
Ggabyte Boundary, allows use of slghtly smaller replacement drves.
On the Drves Assgnments wndow, use the arrow key to choose the hard drves
whch you want to make part of the LD, use the space key to change the assgnment
to Y. Then press [Ctrl+Y] to save the confguraton.

any key to save default LD name.

Choose a LD No. you want to delete and press [Del] or [Alt+D] delete the RAID

Installng the RAID Drver (for bootable RAID Array)
After you complete the RAID BIOS setup, boot from the Wndows CD, and the Wn-
dows Setup program starts.
Press F6 and wat for the Wndows Setup screen to appear.
Insert the foppy that contans the RAID drver, press the S key to select Specfy
Addtonal Devce.

When prompted, nsert the medum dsk and press Enter. 4.
Important
Please follow the nstructon below to make a SATA RAID drver for yourself.
Insert the MSI DVD nto the DVD-ROM drve.
Clck the Browse CD on the Setup screen.
Copy all the contents n the : \\ChpSet\AMD\Packages\Drvers\SBDrv\SB8xx\RAID\
(and then, please select a folder whch was classfed accordng to OS.)
The drver dsk for RAID controller s done.
For Wndows Vsta/ Wndows 7:

Durng the Operatng system nstallaton, after selectng the locaton to nstall Vsta/
Wndows 7 clck on Load Drver button to load RAID drve.
You should be shown a lst of avalable RAID controller(s).
Select the compatble RAID controller for 32-bt/ 64-bt verson system and then
press ENTER.
The next screen should confrm that you have selected the RAID controller. Press
ENTER agan to contnue.
You have successfully nstalled the RAID drver, and Wndows setup should con-
tnue.
Leave the medum untl the system reboots tself. Wndows setup wll need to copy
the fles from the medum agan after the RAID volume s formatted, and Wndows
setup starts copyng fles.
