Research on the Visibility of the Moon of
The birth of the Jumadal-oola 1430 crescent will take place on Saturday 25 April
2009 at 03:22 UT/GMT. In Pakistan, the time will be 09:22 (UT + 6) on the morning of
Saturday 25 April 2009 and in Saudi Arabia, it will be 06:22.
As the age of the crescent and the other factors affecting its visibility, e.g. Lag, Rel.
Azi and Elongation etc. will be extremely defective in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, the
Astronomy Department of Jamia’-tur-Rasheed, in consonance with Al-Beruni, Yaqoob bin
Tariq, Babylonians as well as nearly more than eighteen other ancient and modern criteria,
predicts that there is no possibility at all of sighting the crescent with the naked eye in
Pakistan, India, Iran, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, and a major part of the inhabited world.
The conditions of this moon in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are similar as the conditions of the
moon of shawwal 1429 AH but more defective with respect to elongation.
According to nearly all the ancient and modern criteria of sighting the moon, Only in
North America there is a clear possibility of sighting the crescent on Saturday 25 April 2009.
Bernard Yallop (UK), Shaukat Odeh (Jordan), Khalid Shaukat (USA) and SAAO have
predicted a slight chance of sighting the crescent with the naked eye in north-western most
areas of both South America & Africa and in the whole Europe till 60 degrees northern
latitude. Dr. Omar Afzal, the Chairman of CFCO [an American committee of Astronomy
established since 1978, among whose members are Dr. Syed Kamal Abdali, Dr. Manzoor
Ahmed, Dr. Rauf Imam, Charles Evans (Abu Bakr) etc.], have said that there is no
possibility of sighting the moon anywhere in the world except from North America to the
northern part of South America.
On 26 April 2009, the conditions of the crescent will be so excellent that, according
to one or other criteria, the Jumadal-oola crescent will be visible clearly or with some
difficulty in nearly the entire inhabited world with the exclusion of further most Southern
regions of Australia, Argentina, Chile and whole New Zealand.
Phase =2.97 %
In the light of the details mentioned above it is perfectly clear that the possibility of
falling the 1st of Jumadal-oola in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and a major part of the inhabited
world is on Monday 27 April, not before it.
Note 1: As the moon had not been sighted on 29th of Rabee-ul-Awwal, as well as if
the moon is not sighted anywhere in Pakistan due to the clouds on 29th Rabee-uth-Thani
(Sunday 26th April) and resultantly Monday is declared as 30th Rabee-uth-Thani and Tuesday
as 1st Jumadal-oola then it is quite possible that Jumadal-oola will end on its 28th day,
because according to all old and new criteria of the moon sighting, the crescent moon would
be easily visible all over Pakistan on Monday 25th May 2009.
Note 2: Every month, an up-dated report on the possibility of sighting the moon of
the new Islamic month can be downloaded in three languages …… English, Urdu and Arabic,
from the following website along with important maps and pictures:
