Information system (IS) is the study of complementary networks of hardware and software that people and organizations use to collect, filter, create, process and distribute data. 1.2 Computer-based Information System (CBIS) CBIS is an information system that uses computer technology to perform some or all of its intended tasks. 1.3 Management Information Systems (MISs) These systems access, organize, summarize, and displayed information for supporting routine decision making in the functional areas. Geared toward middle managers, MIS are characterized mainly by their ability to produce periodic reports such as a daily list of employees and the hours they work, or a monthly report of expenses as compared to a budget.
1.4 Library Management System 1.4.1 Working of Present Manual/Existing System 1. Students have to fill membership/college form and they are provided with library card. 2. Each book is logged manually before students borrow it. 3. Students need to browse through the books manually inorder to find what book they are looking for. 4. Students must have the membership/library card if they wish to borrow a book.
1.4.2 Drawbacks of Present System 1. Fast report generation is not possible. 2. Tracing a book is difficult. 3. Information about issue/return of the books is not properly maintained. 4. No central database can be created as information is not available in database.
