Pirates steal win over Miners
-------------------------------------------------
Wollongong,NSW- The Wollongong Miners dropped another
vital game today after they somehow found away to lose
against the Auckland Pirates. The Miners dominated on
the ground and off the back of that Richie Davis was
able to work his receivers into the game. Yet that work
was undone by Coach Frank Curries favourite topic
turnovers. I keep telling you. You lose the turnover
battle you lose the game and that is what happened to us
today said Curry. But his team was also hampered by
their inability to score one inside the red zone. The
Miners visited the Pirates Red Zone three times and came
away with just one field goal. This kept the Pirates in
the game and when Nathan Jacks and Davis were not on the
same page Taniela Porter swooped, picked the pass and
went in to score. Auckland would never lose the lead
from that point.

It was not a pretty win but I felt that we just hung in
there and eventually things turned our way said Shayne
Boyd. They contained Wollongong to another field goal in
the third before Jharal Lelei was able to go deep and it
was that man Austin Collie who made a great catch for
the 58 yard touchdown.

Now down by 8 the Miners were under pressure. Davis was
successful initially when he lobbed a pass into the
corner to find Andrew Rogers for the score. But another
pass to the corner was broken up after Davis had to
scramble to avoid Luke Edwards and the two point
conversion was unsuccessful.

The Miners got one final chance to win the game but this
time Davis had to throw in desperation and his pass was
deflected by Santana Sau and Rookie Joshua Vaivai
swooped for the interception.
