Financial Management and Budgeting

Designed for managers, supervisors and project staff with limited financial background, this course
teaches you to apply key finance and budgeting principles. You will explore the tools, concepts and
techniques used by financial people, develop an understanding of statement analysis, learn to use
financial reporting systems and enhance your ability to communicate effectively with accountants.
The following topics will be covered:
simplifying the major accounting terms you should know
how to read and interpret financial reports
what financial accounting reports can tell you (and what they cannot)
what is management accounting and how it can help you
key performance indicators and how to identify them
performance evaluation including budgeting basics

Chris is a Chartered Accountant and has been involved in accounting education for the last
15 years. Prior to joining the University of Adelaide Business School, Chris worked as an
accountant in a number of different fields, including public practice, the banking sector, and
the manufacturing sector. He is currently the chair of the audit & compliance sub-committee
of a medium-sized not-for-profit organisation. Through his experience in industry and
education, Chris has developed the knack for teaching financial literacy to those with a
non-finance background in an engaging and effective manner.

Managing Challenging Staff
Challenging staff are both under achievers and over achievers! They can be challenging in terms of their
performance output or their personality traits. In this workshop you will discuss strategies to enhance the

Project Management

MS Project
Designed as the ideal follow-up to Project Management! The two days combined will provide you with the
skills and knowledge to successfully manage projects. Our Project Management course covers the
fundamentals of project management and explores how these can be incorporated to improve current
work practice. MS Project will introduce you to the software application Microsoft Project, a useful and
popular project management tool used for business project planning, scheduling tasks, managing
resources, monitoring fees and generating reports. The course will introduce you to the tools used to
manage projects using Microsoft Project. You will explore the ways that you can use the software to
manage resources for efficient execution of projects.
Prerequisite knowledge for this course:
considerable knowledge of your computer's operating system, file management and keyboard layout
a basic understanding of the theories and concepts of project management are essential

started a new project file and setting the project
set the calendar to reflect the work schedule
