The key thing that AMISOM does is to secure the main supply routes for ourselves,
the Somali people and for Humanitarian activity to go on.
As you know what AMISOM does is capture new areas and open up routes, we
ensure that we secure routes and we ensure that humanitarian supply gets to
people. Today the UAE came with food stuffs, this food is brought here, they know
AMISOM is the protector of all the humanitarian stuff and we come here to ensure
there is adequate security once the food gets ready for the distribution.

The timings of the donation is very good, its the time that our brothers of AMISOM
along with our military are opening up more areas and securing more routes and we
are very glad that the timings is good and hopefully these will get to people in good
timings.

Im the coordinator between UAE Government and Somali Government, UAE
donated around 75,000 boxes of food stuff to support the people of Somalia not
only in Mogadishu but also in Putland. We shall be dealing with the government and
AMISOM to help with distribution of the food to the people. In the future there is
another food coming, this one is the first stage,there will be the second stage and
third stage.

STORY

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government handed over ten trucks containing
75,000 boxes of food aid to the Somali government as part of its ongoing
humanitarian assistance to the Somali people.

This follows the latest assessments from Humanitarian agencies warning that the
food crisis in Somalia is deteriorate with drought conditions already observed in
parts of the country due to a poor rainy season.

The government of UAE has donated around 75,000 boxes of food stuff to support
the people of Somalia not only in Mogadishu but the whole country, We shall be
dealing with the government and AMISOM to help with distribution of the food to
the people. said the UAE ambassador to Somalia Ambassador Mohamed Athman.
The Ambassador said that the donation was part of ongoing support of UAE
government to Somali people especially to the vulnerable people.

Receiving the donations on behalf of the Somali Government, The Minister of
Internal Security and Federalism Abdullahi Godah Baree thanked the UAE
government and Khalifa Foundation for the donations saying that the timings of the
donation could not have been better.

The timings of the donation is very good, its the time that our brothers from
AMISOM along with our military are opening up more areas and securing more
routes and we are very glad that the timings is good and hopefully these will get to
people in good timing said Minister Baree.
The Minister added that following the military successes by Somali Army supported
by AU, efforts are now turning to stabilization of the areas and relieving the growing
humanitarian need of the people as he called on other humanitarian urgency to also
provide the much needed assistance.

AMISOM Sector 1 Commander, Brig General Dick Olum while thanking the UAE
government said that AMISOM would be facilitating for the food distribution in the
various towns.

The key thing that AMISOM does is to secure the main supply routes for ourselves,
the Somali people and for Humanitarian activity to go on. Said Brig General Olum
adding that AMISOM and National Army capture new areas and open up routes,
we ensure that we secure routes and humanitarian supply gets to people.


The liberation of the new towns has seen civilians return back to their homes
following improved security as a result of the subsequent defeat of Al-Shabaab
terrorists by Somali government forces supported by AMISOM peacekeepers.
