Teacher Name Philip Andre

Course Name and Number Algebra Two MAA401

Course Description This course engages students in advanced algebraic concepts through
the study of functions, polynomials, complex matrices, and sequences and
series. Students will make connections by integrating algebra into
geometry, data analysis, and other curricular areas. Student reasoning will
involve linear equations and inequalities, systems of linear equations,
matrices and determinants, quadratic equations and relations, functions and
graphs, powers, roots, and radicals, exponential and logarithmic functions,
polynomials and polynomial functions, rational expressions and functions,
sequences and series, probability and statistics, and circular trigonometric

Assessment

BSQs = (Basic Skills Quiz)
Students will start each class period with a short (timed)
computational quiz that will test basic skills and previous
knowledge.

NTGs & GPs = (Note Taking Guides & Guided Practice)
Notes are to be taken using Note Taking Guides.
Videos have been created that explain the Note Taking Guides
and can be found on a Weebly website, on the school common
drive, or on Youtube
All of the Note Taking Guide must be filled out for credit
All of the assigned Guided Practice must be completed for
credit

CW = (Class Work):
Student will be given an assignment each class period.
These assignments will be complete during class time and will
be graded based on completion.

ENTs & EXTs = (Entrance & Exit Slips)
Students will complete a short quiz at the beginning and end of
each day.

TOW = (6 + 1 Traits of Writing)
Writings will be required at the end of each unit in response to a
given prompt. Students will be required to use proper
organization and precise vocabulary. Writings will be assessed
based on the 6+1 traits rubric.

ID = (IDEA)
Concept maps will be created based on a given prompt using
the IDEA Four Step Model for Problem Solving

UA = (Unit Assessments)
Following each unit a comprehensive test will be given.
These will consist of vocabulary, multiple choices, fill-in the
blank, true and false, and short answer questions.

Homework

Students will have some form of work every night. This includes but not
limited to taking notes, doing problems, studying for a test or quiz, and
organizing their binder.

Late Work Policy Late work for high school students may be accepted by prior negotiations
with your teacher, in writing, before the due date.
Retakes on ENT, EXT, and UAs will be offered within five school days.
The maximum retake grade is an 80% and will replace the old score.

Performance Goals:
Flipped Instruction
The traditional pattern of secondary education has been to have classroom
lectures, followed by homework. This leave very little time for students to
ask questions during the class period. In flip instruction, pupils are first
introduced to a new topic through video lessons. The pupil then applies a
basic understanding by solving a short set of problems. During class time
students are then walked through the more complex topics through an
additional set of problems.

Goal 1: Evaluate All students will assess the reasonableness and quality
of ideas across the curriculum

Goal 2: Synthesize All students will combine information or connect
ideas to create new understandings, products, or solutions across the
curriculum
