YAGI ANTENNA

AIM:
To study and plot the radiation characteristics of yagi Antenna.
EQUIPMENTS REQUIRED:
i. Synthesized RF transmitter (VRFT 06VT
ii. Synthesized RF recei!er (VRFT 06VR
iii. Antenna mounting setup
i!. "agi antenna (recei!er side
!. #ipole antenna (transmitter side
!i. Antenna $ntelligent %ontroller
!ii. &'& ca(le ) &os.
!iii. *&%'*&% ca(le +&o.
THEORY:
"agi'uda or simply "agi antennas are the most high gain antennas. $t consists
of a dri!en element, a reflector and one or more directors. i.e., "agi uda antenna is an
array of a dri!en element (or acti!e element -here the po-er from the transmitter is fed
or -hich feeds recei!ed po-er to the recei!er and one or more parasitic elements (i.e.,
passi!e elements -hich are not connected directly to the transmission line (ut electrically
coupled.
The dri!en element is a resonant half -a!e dipole usually of metallic rod. The
parasitic elements of continuous metallic rods are arranged parallel to the dri!en element.
They are arranged collinearly and close together -ith one reflector and one director.
#ue to the current flo- in the dri!en element, !oltage -ill (e induced in
parasitic elements. The phase and currents flo-ing due to the induced !oltage depend on
the spacing (et-een the elements and upon the reactance of the elements. The reactance
may (e !aried (y dimensioning the length of the parasitic element. The spacing (et-een
dri!en and parasitic elements are of the order of 0.+ to 0.+.
The parasitic element in front of dri!en element is /no-n as director and its
num(er may (e more than one, -hereas the element in the (ac/ of it is /no-n as
reflector. The reflector is .0 more and director is .0 less than the dri!en element.
General Characteristics:
+. "agi uda antenna has unidirectional (eam of moderate directi!ity -ith light
-eight, lo- cost and simplicity in feed system design.
). $t pro!ides gain of the order of 1d( or front to (ac/ ratio of a(out )0d(.
2. $f three elements array (i.e., one reflector, one dri!en element and one director is
used, then such type of "agi'uda antenna is generally referred to as (eam antenna.
3. $t is also /no-n as super directi!e or super gain antenna due to its high gain and
(eam -idth per unit area of the array.
.. $f greater directi!ity is desired, further elements may (e used.
6. $t is a fi4ed fre5uency de!ice i.e., fre5uency sensiti!e and a (and -idth of a(out
20 is o(tained. This much (and-idth is sufficient for tele!ision reception.

more turns carrying RF current. $t may assume any shape. (@4ampleA Rectangular,

as frame. %urrents are of the same magnitude and phase throughout the loop if
dimensions are small in comparison to -a!elength.
