Hi and welcome to the fourth and final edition of the Fantasy Freakos pre-season rave. Thankfully the NAB Cup is done and dusted and we can turn our
attention to the real stuff. The next few days will be all about locking in our Giants and Swans players, so choose them wisely as there will be no turning
back. With most clubs fielding stronger teams for the final round of the pre-season, hopefully you took note of which youngsters played, as this will give
you the perfect guide when making your final decisions, especially your bench players.
Enjoy this weeks read and best of luck to all coaches for the opening round.

Below I have included the leading performers for the Giants this
pre-season, with only players that have played at least two games
included. Ball-magnet Rhys Palmer has been the clear standout,
averaging 107 DT points per 100 minutes, but his starting price
may be somewhat of a deterrent. In terms of value for your
investment, Anthony Miles is the pick of the bunch, ranking 10th
in the competition for dollars per point, averaging 100 points per
game. Popular picks James McDonald and Jonathan Giles both
feature in the top-10, with the latter coming off an impressive 102
point game, completely outclassing Richmonds Ivan Maric along
the way.

BERNIE VINCE
SAM SHAw
I put the onus of Vince a few weeks ago and he has responded
accordingly. He was awarded the Michael Tuck medal as the best player
on the ground in the NAB Cup Grand Final, finishing with a game-high 29
disposals on his way to 108 DT points.
Shaw has been a regular in defence across the NAB Cup and is almost
certain to debut in Round 1. With Ben Rutten still sidelined through
injury, he will get opportunities early and make you some cash.

@FantasyFreako - I made the big call on Adelaide a few weeks ago and
I was right on the money. The Crows will be the big improvers this year.
Remember they have a dream draw.

The wraps are huge on Longer, and his performances so far have backed
it up. Sharing the ruck duties with Matthew Leuenberger, hes scored 63

debut in Round 1.

Robinson did enough last week against the Kangaroos to put his hand up

this year adds to his appeal.

JACKSON PAINE
TRAVIS CLOKE
A starting berth in the opening round isnt out of the equation for Paine.
Hes looked lively in the forward line, finishing with 14 disposals, four
marks and 57 DT points last week against St Kilda from 84% game time.
I know I pumped him up last week, but after seeing Cloke first hand
against St Kilda, he needed another mention. His aerial ability in the wet
was amazing, grabbing seven marks (five contested) to finish with five
goals and an equal team-high 118 DT points.

FantasyFreako
@FantasyFreako - Dane Swan has hit 130 plus DT points in three of his past
four H&A games against the Hawks. Captain material as always Swanny!
ESSENDON
MICHAEL HURLEy
JAKE MELKSHAM
I doubt that many coaches will pick Melksham at his price, but he has
all the makings of a breakout player. He played in every game last year
and ranked eighth at Essendon for DT points scored, averaging 70 per
match.

FREMANTLE
LEE SPURR
STEPHEN HILL
Fingers crossed that Spurr gets elevated to the senior list prior to Round
1. In his first full match of the pre-season last week against the Hawks,
he finished with 16 disposals, five marks and 70 DT points. Could he be
this years Nick Lower?
I know its only the pre-season, but Hill looked sharp last week against
Hawthorn, finishing with 25 disposals and 95 DT points. It would take
a very brave coach to pick him, but could this be the year he finally
produces?

FantasyFreako
@FantasyFreako - Paul Duffield continues to perform well under Ross Lyon,
adding another 81 DT points to his pre-season tally. Hes good value if you
ask me.
GEELONG CATS
ANDREw MACKIE
CAMERON GUTHRIE
Ive been waiting for Mackie to take that next step and become an elite
Dream Teamer, but that hasnt eventuated. He averaged 90 DT points per
match back in 2008, but he hasnt been able to exceed that mark since
then. In saying that, you know what you get from him each week and at
his price hes solid choice.
Guthrie is a very strong chance to play in Round 1 now that both Josh
Hunt and David Wojcinski are out injured. Hes well ahead of fellow
youngster Billie Smedts in the pecking order at the Cats, and although
his starting price is a little high, he could be a good choice for your fifth
or sixth defender.

FantasyFreako
@FantasyFreako - Its safe to say that Simon Hogan wont be featuring in
Round 1. At best hell be a backup player, so I would look for another midfield
cash cow.
KARMICHAEL HUNT
From a fantasy perspective Hunt proved his doubters correct last year,
averaging a dismal 29 DT points per match, but a year is a long time
in football. A midfield role this year should see him improve those
numbers, so keep him in mind for a bench spot.
Hall returned from injury last week against the Swans and was solid
with 51 DT points. He didnt find a lot of the ball, managing only eight
disposals, but he did impress definitely, applying an equal team-high five
tackles.

FantasyFreako
@FantasyFreako - I know hes ineligible to play this year, but the name
Jaeger OMeara will be a prominent one in 12 months time.
ADAM KENNEDy
Shiel made his first appearance of the pre-season last week in a reserves match, playing the first half. Although hes little chance of playing
in Round 1, he will play sooner rather than later, so the big question is do
you pick him in your starting squad regardless?
Kennedy had his most productive match of the pre-season last week
against the Tigers, finishing with 22 disposals, 10 marks and 97 DT
points. As a DPP, he could be a better choice ahead of James McDonald
or Stephen Clifton given his positional flexibility.

@FantasyFreako - Callan Ward demonstrated his ball-winning ability last
week against Richmond, collecting a team-high 126 DT points.
HAwTHORN
DAVID HALE
SAM MITCHELL
I never thought the day would come that Hale would be a viable fantasy
option. His pre-season so far has been faultless, scoring 76, 106 and
most recently 114 DT points last week against Fremantle. He could be a
valuable point of difference as a DPP if he can hold his strong form.

MELBOURNE
BRENT MOLONEy
JACK GRIMES
If youre looking for a Melbourne player, then you cant go past the top
scorer from last season in Moloney. Averaging an equal career-high 88
DT points per match, he cracked the ton in nine games which included
hitting 120 plus three times.
Grimes will play for VFL affiliate Casey Scorpions this week in a bid to
gain some match practice before the season opener against Brisbane.
As we all know, hell start the year at a very temping price, but will
there be any takers?

NORTH MELBOURNE
SAM GIBSON
DREw PETRIE
Gibson was talked up early as a potential early season bolter, but his
chances of playing in Round 1 are now all but gone. He was an unused
sub last week against Carlton, so at best hell be a trade down target
once he earns promotion to the senior list.
Having put a line though Petrie a few weeks ago, hes hit back with
a massive 122 DT points last week against the Blues courtesy of his
seven goals straight. He looms as a point of difference for your forward
line, possibly replacing a Nick Riewoldt if you currently have him.

JOHN MCCARTHy
KANE CORNES
McCarthy did it again last week. He only played the first half against
Melbourne, picking up 13 disposals, seven marks and 66 DT points
(most on the ground at half time). As a mid-pricer, he could very well
end up being a keeper.
Prior to last season, Cornes was one of the most reliable Dream
Teamers in the game, averaging 27 disposals and 100 DT points per
match between 2005-10. After falling out of favour last year, his preseason so far has been solid, finishing with a game-high 119 points
against the Demons.

FantasyFreako
@FantasyFreako - After ranking 16th in the AFL for DT points scored last
season, the only way is up for Port Adelaide.
RICHMOND
BRETT DELEDIO
JACK RIEwOLDT
It didnt take Deledio long to find he feet. He didnt miss a beat against
the Giants, racking up 140 DT points the second-most of any player
in the league across the final round. Hes quashed any doubts about his
fitness with that performance.
Jack is one the verge of overtaking his cousin Nick from a fantasy
perspective. He dominated against the Giants last week, booting 6.4 on
his way to a round-high 146 DT points. You can save yourself over 70k
if you opt for Jack.

ST KILDA
NICK DAL SANTO
JAMIE CRIPPS
Cripps will be given a role across half-back this season, but his starting
price is a little too high for my liking, especially if we can get the same
return from a cheaper cash cow. In saying that though, if money isnt an
issue, hes a decent addition to any side.
Ranking eighth in the league for DT points scored across the past three
seasons, Dal Santo is a very safe pick for your midfield. Averaging 103
points per game in this period, hes scored at least 80 points in all but 13
of his 64 games.

JED LAMB
If you knew that you would get 22 games out of Malceski, then you
wouldnt hesitate in picking him. Sadly for us his durability has let him
down, playing more than 15 games in only two of his seven seasons to
date.
Keep Lamb on your radar as a trade down target later in the year. Hes
unlikely to play in the early rounds, but as a first round draft pick the
Swans will be keen to get plenty of games into him.

@FantasyFreako - Luke Parker just keeps on getting better with every game.
He racked up 32 disposals and 109 DT points last week against the Suns.
JOSH HILL
Weedon has done very little to excite me this NAB Cup, despite his
promising start. Being a small forward hasnt helped his cause, so if
you currently have him on your bench I would look elsewhere.
Hill is one of only five West Coast players that have played in every
game this NAB Cup. He had his most productive game last week in the
Grand Final, finishing with 88 DT points, but that could have been much
higher had he converted well. With injuries to both Mark LeCras and
now Mark Nicoski, his job security is looking good.

FantasyFreako
@FantasyFreako - No need to panic. Dean Cox did finish with only 27 DT
points in the NAB Cup Grand Final, but he only played the first half before
being subbed out.

DANIEL CROSS
TORy DICKSON
I have been a long time admirer of Cross, but the knock on him has
always been his preference to handball rather than kick. What he lacks in
that department though he makes up with his strong tackling, averaging a
career-high six tackles per game in 2011. Consider him for your midfield.
Dickson has snuck under the radar as a potential cash cow. Hes every
chance of making his AFL debut against West Coast in Round 1, and as
a mature-ager he should have an impact immediately. Keep him in mind
for your bench.

FantasyFreako
@FantasyFreako - Matthew Boyd averaged 135 DT points per 100 minutes
this pre-season, the most of any player in the league that played more than
one game.
