US$20 billion, a net worth of US$11 billion, and total assets of US$21 billion. Its
activities include oil and gas exploration and production, petroleum refining and
marketing, petrochemicals (polyester, fiber intermediates, plastics, and chemicals),
and textiles. Its exports reach nearly 100 countries across the globe, totaling US$7

Beiginning of Reliance Industries
Reliance group was founded by Dhirubhai Ambani in 1966 as a polyester firm.
Dhirubhai started the equity cult in India. Reliance later entered into financial
services, petroleum refining, power sector. By 2002 Reliance had grown into a
U$15 billion conglomerate. After the death of Dhirubhai Ambani on 6 July 2002,
Reliance was headed by his sons. The group was formed after the two feuding
brothers Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani, split Reliance Industries.
[3][4]
Anil
Ambani got the responsibility of Reliance Infocomm, Reliance Energy, Reliance
Capital and RNRL. This led to a new beginning called Reliance. Later this group
entered the power sector through Reliance Power, and the entertainment sector by
acquiring Adlabs
Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (now referred as Reliance Group and
legally Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Ventures Limited) is an Indian conglomerate,
headquartered in Navi Mumbai, India. The company, which was formed
after Dhirubhai Ambani's business empire was divided up, is headed by his
younger son Anil Ambani.
[1]
It has a market capitalisation of 890
billion (US$15 billion) and net assets worth 1800 billion (US$30 billion).
[2]

services, construction, entertainment, media, real estate, energy, health care,
manufacturing, aviation, natural resources, food and beverages, hospitality,

Ambani started with 1 rupee in his hand and earned money by working with a firm
in Yemen in the 1950s and moved toMumbai in 1958 to start his own business in
spices. After making modest profits, he moved into textiles and opened a mill
in Naroda industrial area of Ahmedabad. He founded Reliance Industries in 1966,

Future plans
Reliance Industries, which till recently was India's most valuable company, is
trying to regain its numero uno slot by lining up an investment of Rs 1,00,000
crore across business verticals to double operating profits in five
years. RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani made this announcement during RIL's 38th
AGM on Thursday. However, the company failed to address the investor disquiet
over the tumbling share price even as it piled up cash while its profits dipped.

Ambani, who reached the AGM venue along with his wife Nita and younger son
Anant, presented a rosy picture of how an investment of Rs 1,000 made during
RIL's IPO in 1977 is now worth Rs 7.7 lakh. Investors, incidentally, have lost a-
third of their wealth in RIL shares in the last one year. However, RIL shares gained
marginally after the AGM to close at Rs 721 in a firm Mumbai market as the
sensex gained 195 points. Ambani was later joined by his mother Kokilaben and
elder son Akash and daughter Isha.

Addressing RIL shareholders, Ambani said new projects in petrochemicals and the
refinery business would be completed in the next 2-3 years and investments in
refinery downstream would add 30-40% to margins. He added that retail business
would be a significant and profitable business for RIL within three years.
