Background of the Study

The rains may drive the heat away from homes, but they also bring in the pests
which in turn bring in sicknesses like dengue. Cats and dogs may be able to get
rid of bigger pests such as rats and the occasional frog, but smaller onesants,
flies, mosquitoes, and cockroachesare a different story altogether. One of the
most abundant pests inside a residence area are cockroaches.
Cockroaches belong to Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Arthropoda, Class Insecta
and Order Blattaria. Some species invade human dwellings and are considered
pests. Others are beneficial to the environment as important recyclers of
decaying organic material. The pest cockroaches can be carriers of various
diseases because they are commonly found near waste deposits or in the
kitchen, where food is present. Restaurants may also experience cockroach
infestations.
A common recourse is to use insecticides. Insecticides are commonly used in
agricultural, public health, and industrial applications, as well as household and
commercial uses--but commercially available insecticides also have chemicals
that may be injurious to the health.
Insecticides have chemicals used to control insects by killing them or preventing
them from engaging in behaviors deemed undesirable or destructive. They are
classified based on their structure and mode of action. Many insecticides act
upon the nervous system of the insect while others act as growth regulators or
endo-toxins.

There are some deprived people who lacked the knowledge on how to deal with
these pest naturally and cannot afford to purchase commercially available
insecticides, the researchers then decided to make use of natural resources that
can be purchased in public market like Malunggay extract, Chili extract and
Calamansi extract to make an insecticide that can be made by people of all
status.

Statement of the Problem
The research will determine the effectiveness of the Malunggay, Chili and
Calamansi as alternative materials for insecticides.
To be specific, it seeks answers to the following questions:
1. How effective is the Malungay, Chili and Calamansi to be alternative for
insecticide?
2. How fast can an alternative insecticide kill a pest?
3. What part of Malunggay, Chili and Calamansi will be extracted to be used
as ingredient to the alternative insecticide?
4. What will be the effect of the alternative insecticide to the pests?
5. How would the alternative insecticide relevant to the society?

Significance of the Study
Many people today are problematic especially in raining season because many
cockroaches come out and sometimes you will be shock because they are in
your house. Some people buy insecticide so that they can kill the pest. All people
cannot afford to buy insecticide like the poor people who are become problematic
also because they do not know how to kill the cockroaches in their house, they
depend in their slippers or things that can be used to beaten the cockroach.
This study wants to know if the extract of Malunggay, Chili and Calamansi are
effective as an insecticide. If this study becomes successful the researchers want
to implement this as an alternative insecticide.
The deprived people are the primary target of the researchers to help because
the researchers know that they cannot afford to buy commercial insecticide. If
this study is successful they will not only be able to prevent diseases caused by
cockroaches, but also it will help to reduce the use of toxic chemicals that me be
harmful to humans.

5
Scope and Limitations
The researchers notice that one problem of many people today are the pests like
cockroaches. The researchers will conduct a study about making insecticide. The
primary goal of this study is to help the community to produce their own make-
yourself insecticide without using too much money.
This study will focus solely in making insecticide to kill pests like cockroaches.
The researchers will make of use Malunggay extract, Chili extract, and
Calamansi extract. No chemicals will be used for this study.
This study will pertain only in cockroaches. The insecticide is made for cockroach
only and will not include the other pests.

Hypotheses

1. How effective is the
Malunggay, Chili, and
Calamansi to be
alternative for
insecticide?.

The Malunggay, Chili,
and Calamansi will not
be effective to be
alternative for
insecticide.

The Malunggay, Chili,
and Calamansi will be
very effective to be
alternative for
insecticide.

2. How fast can an
alternative insecticide kill
a pest?

The alternative
insecticide cannot kill a
pest.

The alternative
insecticide can kill a
pest immediately.

alternative insecticide?
There are no part of
any of the given
ingredients will be of
use to make the
alternative insecticide.
The Malunggay root,
Chili, and Calamansi
fruit will be of use to
make the alternative
insecticide

4. What will be the effect
of the alternative
insecticide to the pests?

The alternative
insecticide will have no
effect to pests.
The effect of the
alternative insecticide
will kill the pest by
poisoning.
5. How would the
alternative insecticide
relevant to the society?

The study will have no
relevance to the
society.
The study will help the
less fortunate to
eradicate the pests
inside their homes.
