Remote Monitoring of Vital Signs In Patients With Chronic Heart
Failure
Abstract
In an increasingly busy world people hardly have the time to even to attend to their health. In such a
situation people often ignore routine checkups that are necessary especially for patients with heart
problems. Over the years various biomedical devices have come into the market that make checking
for routine things easy for example blood glucose meters, portable blood pressure meters etc. This
project proposes one such device meant for heart patients.
The first part is an electronic device based on analog circuits and an embedded system, that acquires
the ECG signal from a person. The second part is an android device that takes the ECG signals and
analyzes the same to check if it is normal or if there are any problems with the ECG signals.
The project aims at designing such device with the help of the Android devices. The patient is fitted
with electrodes that can keep track of their body conditions These sensors are attached to a
microcontroller that can monitor the values from the sensor. It keeps track of the patient from the
sensor signals. This information is transmitted via Bluetooth and hence wireless. So the people can
move around everywhere they like.
The hardware part of the project is built using various instrumentation amplifiers and op amps,
which take the analog signals from the electrodes, connected to the patient and perform various
operations like noise filtering and amplification and finally give the signal to an embedded
microcontroller. Thus this system can make the whole process of taking ECG and checking if the ECG
is normal or abnormal at home. If required ,the Doctor can use a PC or a Laptop to see the recorded
ECG signal and for seeing the signal a Labview based virtual instrument can be used by the doctor
This can reduce the time taken and the cost involved in taking an ECG test almost negligible.

Existing System
1. In the Existing system the people have to waste a whole day to visit a hospital for monitoring
their health
2. The person will not be able to check ECG signals when they are at home
3. The prior appointment will get expired if we go late

Proposed System
1. In the proposed system, ECG of a person can be very easily recorded without
requiring a hospital setup or a doctors presence.
2. ECG signal is recorded and sent to doctor as a MMS or even as an email.
