Riverside Police Make Arrest from October 6 th Reported Burglary Riverside Police and the WEDGE Gang and Drug Task Force apprehend suspect in Des Plaines On Monday, October 6, 2014 at 6:47 a.m., the Riverside Police Department received a 911 call reporting that a home had been burglarized on the 400 block of Addison Road. When officers arrived, they met with the homeowner who informed the officers that he had been out of town but had his brother had been watching the house and taking care of his dog. Upon his return home at 4:00 a.m. on the 6 th , the homeowner noticed various items missing from his house. While checking the residence, responding officers noticed there was no forced entry to the home. During the investigation, officers quickly focused on a family member who had been at the house the night before and attempted to leave the home with a Play Station in her backpack. The individual watching the home, the brother of the homeowner, observed this and the female suspect stated she was just playing with it and put it back. Over the last several days, police worked with local pawn shops and attempted to track down the stolen items, in addition to locating the offending suspect. On Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 8:00 p.m., Riverside Police investigators, along with members of the WEDGE Gang and Drug Task Force, were able to take the offender into custody outside of her residence in Des Plaines. The arrest took place without incident and the female was transported back to the Riverside Police Department for further investigation. Once in custody, it was learned through investigation that the offender was a relative of the homeowner and had committed a theft from the home while the homeowner was on vacation. Riverside Police received a full written confession and were able to return to the address in Des Plaines and recover much of the stolen property. The property originally EWS RELEASE RIVERSIDE POLICE DEPARTMENT 31 Riverside Road, Riverside, IL 60546 taken included jewelry, U.S. currency, coins, video games, 95 various clothing items, a coach handbag and vehicle titles. Additionally, various Army metals from service in the United States military were also stolen. Much of the property was recovered but police are still searching for some items through associated pawn shops in the Des Plaines area. Charged with one count of felony theft was Tiffani A. Haberland, 19 of 0-100 block of North Warrington Road in Des Plaines. Ms. Haberland was not charged with residential burglary as she did not break into the home as the theft occurred after she had been invited into the home by a family member.
