GAS Safe Register is the offi-
cial gas registration body for the
United Kingdom, Isle of Man and
Guernsey, appointed by the rel-
evant Health and Safety Authority
for each area. By law all gas en-
gineers must be on the Gas Safe
Register.
Gas Safe Register replaced
CORGI as the gas registration
body in Great Britain and Isle of
Man on April 1, 2009 and North-
ern Ireland and Guernsey on
April 1, 2010.
What does Gas Safe Register
do?
The main focus of the Register
is on improving and maintaining
gas safety to the highest stand-
ards.
We make sure all gas engi-
neers on the Register are quali-
fied to work with gas.
We work to protect the public
from unsafe gas work through:
a dedicated national
investigations team tracking
down individuals working illegal-
ly
regular inspections of
Gas Safe registered engineers
educating consumers
and raising awareness of gas
safety
investigating reports
of unsafe gas work

dangerous gas work?
Dangerous gas work can be
deadly.
Badly fitted and poorly ser-
viced appliances can cause the
following gas safety risks:

3. explosions
4. carbon monoxide poi-
soning
Top tips for gas safety
1. Only use a Gas Safe
registered engineer to fit, fix or
service your gas appliances, in-
cluding your:
o gas boiler
o gas fire, gas cooker or
hob
o central heating sys-
tem, radiators or your hot water
system, if they are connected to
either a Natural Gas or LPG (liq-
uefied petroleum gas) supply
2. Always check the en-
gineers Gas Safe Register ID
card.

regularly serviced and safety
checked every year, or in ac-
cordance with your manufac-
turers guidelines, by a Gas Safe

work has been installed in an
unsafe way, or is operating un-
safely and the engineer can not
rectify the situation immediately,
they will follow the guidance out-

make the installation safe.
This is the industry accepted
document for guiding engineers
on dealing with unsafe situations.

ations Procedure (GIUSP) can
be a complex document to un-
derstand.

4. Fit an audible carbon
monoxide alarm.
Make sure you know carbon
monoxide poisoning symptoms.
5. If you think there might
be a gas leak or notice any signs

to Bill Grahams iconic Fill-

much in the mainstream as
the soundtrack to the latest
Citreon Cactus car advert,
this very accomplished band
treated us to a classy set of
West Coast psychedelia from
the period.

in a previous life, one of the
original rock chicks of the
1970s, headlining major US
festivals with her band Babe

TONY Robinson, Blackadder ac-
tor and presenter of Channel 4s
Time Team stars in a hilarious
and spirited new comedy, The
Hypochondriac.
The penny-pinching Argan is
healthy and wealthy, but com-
pletely obsessed by a list of im-
aginary ailments. Confusion is
piled upon hilarious confusion,
as a gang of eccentric quacks
and Argans treacherous wife
endeavour to fleece him of
his fortune, while his lovesick
daughter, her dashing lover and
an astute maid attempt to set
him straight.
Richard Bean, the adaptor of
the hugely acclaimed One Man,
Two Guvnors, brings Molires
medicinal comedy bang up to
date as a rollicking farce, with-
out losing any of the savagery of
the original.
In 1673, during a production of
this, his final play, Molire was
taken ill while playing the part
of the hypochondriac Argan.
Although he finished the perfor-
mance, he died a few hours later.
Directed by Lindsay Posner,
whose recent successes have in-
cluded Noises Off, Abigails Par-
ty and Relatively Speaking, this
is a spirited new production, not
to be missed.

CIRENCESTER Operatic
Society presents an ex-
citing new production of
Gilbert & Sullivans Pa-
tience at The Barn Thea-
tre, Beeches Road, from
October 21-25 (including a
Saturday matinee).
A bunch of nice, though
clearly neurotic, middle
class ladies abandon mili-
tary fiances and explore
their obsession with a
trendy young poet, with
some hilarious conse-
quences.
Gilberts biting satire
on fame and pretension
is just as relevant today
as when it was written,
and Sullivans sparkling
tunes will have you hum-
ming all the way home.
Sensitively updated to the
1950s, while respecting
the original, the show is
directed by Simon Moss,
who created the award-
nominated The Yeomen of
the Guard in 2013.
Simon Moss said: By
updating the show the
aim is to cast a fresh light
on the satire, and make
the piece more accessible
to modern audiences. We
are confident that those
that already know Pa-
tience will enjoy the new
twists, and we really hope
to turn some younger
people onto Gilbert & Sul-
livan.
The society is delighted
to welcome some talented
new performers for this
production. The cast on
stage will be supported
by an orchestra led by
local musician Suzanne
Barnes.

any time.
Having shaken the flowers
out of our hair, blues trou-
badour Matt Woosey took
us back even further to
the 1930s and that infamous
crossroads in Clarksdale,
Mississippi, where the leg-
endary Robert Johnson alleg-
edly sold his soul to the devil.
Wooseys most obvious nod
to blues mythology is his
crowd pleasing Black Smoke
Rising, a clever mash-up of
countless old lyrics and licks.
But this was a night when
the newly-married and, dare
I say it, more mellow Woosey
introduced us to tracks on
his forthcoming album Wild-
est Dreams, aided and abet-
ted by great pal Dave Small
providing the percussion on
beat box.
It is impossible not to like
Wooseys room-filling voice,
skilful guitar picking and
genial banter between songs.
The set was laced with real
and imaginary love songs
(Wildest Dreams and No-
where is Home), the irresist-
ibly catchy Hook Line and
Sinker and the self explana-
tory Same Old Blues and Ive
Seen the Bottom.
Salisbury folk musician
Antoine Architeuthis opened
the show with his engaging
vocals backed by an Irish
bouzouki. Variety lives at
John Drummonds Brewery

through of the script on both

Award for Best Shakespeare in
the 2013 Rose Bowl Awards and
a nomination for Best Actor for
the lead in Falstaff in 2014.

have performed at Stratford in

panys Open Stages scheme for

IMAGES by 20 photogra-
phy competition finalists
are on display in the Love
Lacock outdoor exhibition
throughout October. The
photographs are on show in
the autumnal woodlands of
Lacock Abbey, once home to
William Henry Fox Talbot,
and the overall champion
and winner in each of the
four categories will be decid-
ed by visitors to the National
Trust property.
All photographers, from
eight-year-olds with their
first camera to film photog-
raphy fans, were invited to
enter the competition ear-
lier this yea.
More than 100 entries were
received from all over the
world for four categories:
young photographers (11
and under), young photogra-
phers (12-16), digital photog-
raphy and traditional pho-
tography processes.
The 20 finalists have been
selected by a panel of profes-
sional photographers and
Lacock Abbey staff and vol-
unteers, based on a combina-
tion of photographic ability
and the sentiment conveyed
in the image.
The overall winner will
receive a VIP Lacock expe-
rience for themselves and
up to four guests, which in-
cludes a private tour of the
abbeys attic and a cream
tea. The winner of each cat-
egory will receive a Lacock-
themed prize hamper and
certificate.

Picture the scene, a fog-
filled Victorian London: Fog
everywhere. Fog up the river
where it flows among green
airs and meadows; fog down
the river, where it rolls de-
filed among the tiers of ship-
ping, and the waterside pol-
lutions of a great (and dirty)
city...
When a dead body is dis-
covered in Mr Krooks Rag-
and-Bone shop, a web of
mysteries starts to untangle,
which has far-reaching con-
sequences.
Hilarious, tragic and ro-
mantic by turns, Dickens
darkly comic masterpiece is
retold by The Pantaloons in
their own inimitable style,
as the company of five actor-
musicians bring the novels
cast of over 50 characters to
life in a thrilling tale of love,
skulduggery and spontane-
ous combustion.

a wide variety of popular

FOLK legend John Kirk-
patrick returns to Westcote
Village Hall on Saturday,
November 1, at 7.30pm, with
his new show Tunes from the
Trenches.
John will present a full kit-
bag of songs from the two
World Wars with his usual
panache and energy, his pow-
erful voice supported by spar-
kling squeezebox playing.
There will be popular hits
of the day; songs designed to
keep the spirits high, to raise
a smile, share a chorus and
provide a moments respite
from the horrors on every
side and find the heart to
keep going.
Alongside these popular
songs, John will also give an
airing to some of the songs
sung by the service person-
nel on the front line; familiar
tunes wedded to new words,
conjured up far from home
by an army of ordinary folk
doing their best to be good
soldiers.
This is a heart-warming
show, with occasional poign-
ant moments, celebrating the
comradeship and spirit that
allowed previous generations
to Keep Smiling Through. The
backdrop to Johns concert
will be an archive display of
photographs and documents
illustrating the brief lives of
the six men from Westcote
who died in the First World
War.
John is one of the most pro-
lific musicians on the English
folkscene and has established
an enviable reputation as an
instrumental virtuoso. He
has been a member of The Al-
bion Country Band, The Rich-
ard Thompson Band, Steeleye
Span, Brass Monkey, Band of
Hope and many more.
