ORTHOTIC & PROSTHETIC TECHNICIAN
Orthotic & Prosthetic (O&P) technicians assist the
disabled by fabricating the orthopedic braces (orthoses)
and articial limbs (prostheses) necessary for their
rehabilitation. O&P technicians are trained and skilled
to provide comprehensive O&P technical support
services and possess the knowledge to interact with
clinical prosthetists and orthotists. Providing orthotic
and prosthetic care involves the application of clinical
and technical processes to meet patient rehabilitation
objectives.
Students will acquire knowledge in polymer processes,
strength of materials, and applied biomechanical principles
to develop and totally customize an orthosis or prosthesis.
Providing O&P care involves the application of clinical
and technical processes to meet patient rehabilitation
objectives. A student may choose to enroll in the Orthotic
technician and/or Prosthetic technician career major. The
Pedorthics career major is another option.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Private orthotic and prosthetic facilities, O&P rehabilitation facilities, Orthotic and prosthetic labs in Veteran Administration
(VA) hospitals, O&P facilities within acute hospitals, O&P central fabrication facilities, pedorthics.
OCCUPATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS
You will work indoors in an orthotics/prosthetics lab which may be located at a private facility or a hospital setting;
Technicians are occasionally required to lift items up to 50 pounds briey, and moderate upper body and grip strength are
required during fabrication of certain devices; Some contact with hazardous materials is expected, and precautions against
inhaling the dust during grinding operations are required; Prolonged standing and working as necessary to accomplish tasks;
Multi-tasking skills are highly desirable.

CLASS TIMES
Full-time students: Students attend from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, seven and one-half (7.5) hours per
day for theory and laboratory classes. Clinical hours vary according to the site, but are usually eight (8) hours per day from
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Part-time students: Students may enroll for three and three quarters (3.75) hours per day, Monday through Thursday. Clinical
rotations may be eight (8) hours per day from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Upon completion of each discipline, students will receive
a certicate of completion. The academic requirements
for Certicates of Mastery for Orthotic Technician and
Prosthetic Technician and the Associate in Applied Science
in O&P Technician is available through Oklahoma City
Community College.

COLLEGE CREDIT AVAILABLE IN MANY PROGRAMS*
While completing coursework at Francis Tuttle, you can earn college credit for an Associate of Applied Science degree with Oklahoma
City Community College, Oklahoma State University- Oklahoma City or Oklahoma State University-Institute of Technology. College credit is
available for the majority of Francis Tuttles career majors.
INDIVIDUAL, PROGRESS-BASED INSTRUCTION
Francis Tuttles instruction is individualized and delivered through the use of Learning Activity Packets (LAPs) that include different
approaches to meet different learning styles.

Compared to other educational institutions, you can complete your program more rapidly, sometimes in as little as four months. Our
progress-based instructional system helps you move through career majors as quickly as you choose to.

Francis Tuttle has many opportunities for you to enroll and start in your chosen career.* We are able to provide open-entry enrollment
because of our progress-based instruction. Full-time students attend weekdays from 8:00-10:55 a.m. and 12:30-3:25 p.m. Part-time students
may attend either the morning, afternoon or evening session, depending on your career major.
*Dental Assisting and Practical Nursing have one start date per school year for students attending full-time.
AFFORDABLE TUITION
Francis Tuttle offers affordable tuition rates. Payment plans and tuition assistance are available for students who qualify.
Tuition is $1.80 per clock hour multiplied by the number of hours in the career major.
Tuition rates for out-of-state students are double normal tuition.
