SANGKURIANG
Long time ago there was a King Perbangkara lived with his daughter Dayang Sumbi or
commonly called Rarasati. She likes knitting very much . One day, Dayang Sumbi was knitting
accompanied by her aunt, a servant of the kingdom and her pet, Tumang.
Dayang Sumbi : Auntie!!! Where are you now. Can you come here a minute ?
Aunt

: Yes, Raras. Im here. What can I do for you ?

Dayang Sumbi : Could you please take a yarn for me.

Servant

: Princess, Im sorry if I sassy . But I think Its better time for take a lunch.

Dayang Sumbi : Hmmm . . . I dont think so. I dont want anything except knit right now.
Aunt

: Dont be like that Raras, you will be sick if you dont eat, and if you sick you cant
knitting again right?.

Dayang Sumbi : Okay..,,, Go, please. Bring me the lunch!

Servant

: Yes, your majesty . . .

Dayang Sumbi : Wait!! Dont forget to feed Tumang too okay!.

Servant

: yes, your majesty...

Day by day was pass, Dayang Sumbi always do all activity in the middle of the woods. One
day Dayang Sumbi did her favorite activity in a balcon, and suddenly her knitting yarn fell unto
ground.
Dayang Sumbi : Oh. no ! Why it must fell? Im so lazy to take it. I hope there is someone out there
can take it for me. If it is man, I promise I will marry hin, if it is woman well.. she
will be my sister.
Without long thinking, Tumang ran to that place where the yarn fell. Then, he gave it back to
Dayang Sumbi.
Dayang Sumbi : Oh.. my god, why must you who take it? Im so regret for what I have said. But, this
is a Princess Promise, so you will be my husband Tumang.

Dayang Sumbi and Tumang get married and they had a babyboy named Sangkuriang.
Actually Tumang was a human but he got curse and turn into a dog. Thats why they could have a
child. One day, Sangkuriang and Tumang went hunting into the forest searching for the heart of deer
for her mother.
Sangkuriang : Go, go, go!!! Why you just keep stay, stupid dog?! I will kill you, if youre not kill that
pig!.
Tumang just silent and refused because he didnt want to be a killer.
Sangkuriang : Ohh You want defy me, hah?Are you not fear ? I will kill you now!! (Killing Tumang)
Sangkuriang : Oh my god, what should I tell mother, and what must I do with this carrion. Yea I
have an idea!!
In the afternoon, Sangkuriang went home and brought something,then he gave it to his
mother.
Dayang Sumbi :This food is delicious Sangkuriang. Oh yaa, I almost forgot Wheres Tumang? I
havent see him since youre back from the forest.
Sangkuriang : Hmm. Mom actually...( with jumpy )
Dayang Sumbi : actually what? Is there something wrong with Tumang?
Sangkuriang

: He has gone mom!

Dayang Sumbi : Gone? What do you mean gone?

Sangkuriang

: Tumang. . . is dead, I killed him because he didnt obey my command to kill a fat pig
and what we eat right now is his heart.

Dayang Sumbi : What?! Are you out of your mind? You killed my husband Sangkuriang! Did you
even know that he is your father!! But now, I think its too late. . .
Sangkuriang

: But mom, I didnt know. Why you never told me . . (suddenly Dayang Sumbi shout)

Dayang Sumbi : Shut up!!!! You are stupid boy!!! Youre not my son anymore!! Get out of here and
never came back!!!
Twenty years late Sangkuriang went wander until he has grown older and he changed her
name became Riang so that he couldnt remember his past . One day he returned to the place where
his mother lived.
Sangkuriang : Wow, who is that woman over there? She looks so beautiful .I think Iam in love with
her. I must go get her.
Sangkuriang didnt realize that woman was his mother. For days Sangkuriang tried to
approach her, until he tried to marry her.
Sangkuriang

: Oh Rarasati. Please marry with me and be my wife?

Dayang Sumbi : I can not define it that fast. I have to think about it first. (Dayang Sumbi sangkuriang
approaching and suddenly he saw a sign at the head of sangkuriang)
Dayang Sumbi : What????!!!
Sangkuriang

: what is it?

Dayang Sumbi : What is that on your head? you have a birthmarks on your head??
Sangkuriang

: yes indeed. I have it on my head. Why?

Dayang Sumbi : (shocked) OH NO!! Impossible. You are my son who left long time ago. Remember?
Sangkuriang

Build the River and make a big boat in one night!
Sangkuriang

Dayang sumbi : okay then good luck.

With a full sense of anxiety, Dayang Sumbi was looking for a way to failed Sangkuriang. He
assisted by guriang, the dam and the boat was quickly will soon be resolved. She looked confuse, and
she pray while crying. Suddenly, the fairy came near Dayang Sumbi and called her.
Fairy

: Dont be sad Dayang Sumbi!

Dayang Sumbi : Oh. . .Fairy, you here? You are the answer for my pray. Please help me Fairy.
Fairy

: Be calm Dayang. I will help you but first you have to tell me your problem okay?

Dayang Sumbi : okay Fairy my problem is my son wanted to marry me!!

Fairy

: OH GOD!! You mean Sangkuriang? Why youre didnt tell him that you are his
mother?.

Dayang Sumbi : Yes Fairy I already told him! But he didnt want to believe me! So, what must I do?
Fairy

: you should meet Eyang subur, Im sure he knows how to prevent it.

Dayang Sumbi : Owh, really?

Fairy

: Yea . . .you must try. . . . . . . . ( suddenly, Fairy was disappear )

Dayang Sumbi : Fairy!!! Where will you go???!!!

Dayang Sumbi went to Eyang Suburs house in the forest.
Dayang sumbi : Assalamualaikum Eyang. Excusme anybody home??
Eayang subur

: ohh Dayang Sumbi What are you doing here?

Dayang Sumbi : Eyang , I really need your help. Sangkuriang is my son, and he really wanted to
marry me.

Eyang Subur

: Then, what happened Rarasati?

Dayang Sumbi : Now, that Ive told him to do something for marry me. I asked him to make a boat
and a lake in one night but I think its almost done. What should I do Eyang?
Eyang

: Easy! We should get married then.

Dayang Sumbi : What? Are you kidding me Eyang? But you already have 9 wifes.
Eyang

: Im not kidding I will make you a tenth wife. If you want to marry me Sangkuriang will
get mad and leave you for good. Right?

Dayang Sumbi : Damn! You are right.. okay then Lets get married!
Suddenly Auntie came.
Auntie

: wait waitt!! Dayang Sumbi What are you doing here??

Dayang sumbi : I want to marry Eyang Subur auntie! So that Sangkuriang cant marry me.
Auntie

: WHAT!! Sangkuriang is back?

Dayang Sumbi: yes auntiee!! Riang is Sangkuriang. I dont have time to explain to you. I have to go!

After get married with Eyang Subur. They meet with Sangkuriang when he was making a
boat.
Dayang Sumbi: Hello Sangkuriang.. Let me introduce you to my husband Eyang Subur.
Sangkuriang : WHAT!!! He is your husband?? But we are getting marry soon!
Eyang Subur : Hai Im Eyang Subur Im her husband now. You are too late!
Sangkuriang

: SUBUR!!! Look at my face! And listen to me!!! Im not affraid of you. This is your
style right? (hit the floor for 3 times) FOR GOD SAKE!!! ALL OF YOU WILL DIE!!

Eyang Subur : HAHAHA!! You cant kill me Sangkuriang because that was my style not yours!!
Dayang Sumbi : Im sorry Sangkuriang. I think its the best for you. You cant marry me. Good bye
son. Lets go Eyang.
In the end Sangkuriang is dead while Dayang Sumbi and Eyang subur live happily ever after.
