Student Teaching Reflection

I have learned so much as a student teacher over this last semester. Towards the end of my weeks as
the full time teacher in the classroom I began to feel differently, in the sense that I started to feel more
like a teacher. The knot in my stomach that I felt almost every morning finally went away. My
sensitivity to my classroom management dissipated. This constant fear of losing control of the class
slowly shifted to a feeling of confidence. Including feeling I had the skills to regain control of a class on a
needed basis. My cooperating teacher was a great mentor and took pride in providing me a myriad of
opportunities and experiences.
I was the most nervous about classroom management and made various goals throughout my student
teaching to address where I felt I was weak in that specific area. With direction, encouragement and
sometimes criticism from my cooperating teacher, lately I have felt that where I was weak and unsure I
have gained confidence and skills.
My views have not changed much about teaching now that Ive almost completed my student teaching.
I am still excited to have a classroom of my own. I still have a great love and passion for the subject
matter and excited to share it with my students. I have learned a great deal from my cooperating
teacher and appreciate the time she has spent in guiding and teaching me. One day as she prepared for
an important meeting with her principal she was provided with questions that would be asked of her.
She thought it in my best interest to ask these challenging questions to me and see how I fared. As I
answered and we discussed, I felt confident that I had many tools provided me with my education and
student teaching experience to answer difficult and complex questions.
I feel my education helped provide a strong foundation of theory and skills that I was able to implement
in the classroom. And education terms that I had learned and memorized finally materialized into an
actual plan, action or something tangible that I could implement and enhance students learning.
