Task 5
Ideas which are centred on Reggae/Bashment music
The information which I have selected concerning these types of
Caribbean magazines, ideas which can help me to create an
attracting music magazine.
Bashment music Refers to any form of music which may
contain ska, rock steady, reggae beats and DJ mash ups. This
form of music genre was classed as another name for dancehall
music in 1979, due to the different ranges of music which this genre has to offer and the
types of artist that can be associated with it.
The types of music which are produced within the Bashment industry can be varied and
many artist consider their music as upbeat and a music mash up, however sometimes

events in their lives can impact the type of music which they produce because it can turn
from Bashment to reggae/ska because they arent ranting and raving they are just singing
about factual things which are going, an example of this type of artist is Jah Vinci who is a
Rastafarian and generally sings upbeat reggae music however sometimes he will go of
topic and sing about things which are personal to him such as his mother bringing him up
when he was poor and also the fact that when his daughter is upset she can turn to him,
because at the end of the day daddys always there for you.

Reggae music was influenced by a number of other types of music such as traditional
Mento, calypso, American jazz, rhythm blues and others; however reggae music has its
own origins from rock steady music and SKA.
Reggae music incorporates elements from blues and jazz as well as the genres mentions in
the previous paragraph. Reggae music /Bashment are commonly sung in Jamaican patois
which can be seen as broken English because of the lyric dialects. Reggae music has
evolved through the years and thus this has created sub-genres.

When comparing Reggae and Bashment together, (if you looked at the top album charts
list) you will notice that the typed of reggae songs which are published are mostly
explained in English dialect which people could understand and also the pace which its
paced at is moderate. Whereas if you were to look at the Bashment play list you will se
that the Jamaican dialect is used often when explaining what the song is called and also
the names of the artist are mostly stage name where as some reggae artist keep their
music as real as their name e.g. George Nooks & Ziggy Marley.
Types of reggae magazine: Reggae may have magazines published however dancehall

music does not specifically contribute to the magazine world.
