Application Instructions for Self-Retreat

in Ssanrakkha Buddhist Sanctuary Retreat Centre
Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in having a personal retreat in Ssanrakkha Buddhist Sanctuary
Retreat Centre (SBSRC).
a. If you have satisfactorily done a self-retreat here in SBSRC before, just email
rc@sasanarakkha.org letting us know
1. your full name (as written in the form)
2. when you had your last self-retreat here
3. when you wish to have your next self-retreat here
b. If you have not done a self-retreat here before, your application will be considered on
the basis of two major conditions explained below. Please spare some time to scrutinise
the details to check if you can fulfil our requirements before submitting the application
form and other relevant documents. Please note that (i) both conditions must be met
before your application can be considered, and (ii) SBSRC is not obliged to give any reason
for its decision.
1. Sufficient Personal Meditation Experience. As a general rule, if you wish to apply
for a one-week self-retreat in SBSRC, you must have completed one or more
residential meditation retreat(s) under competent guidance for an accumulated period
of 4 weeks, the shortest duration of which must not be less than 1 week. (E.g., if you
have completed a full 4-week retreat, or 4 one-week retreats, or 1 two-week plus 2 one-week
retreats, you are eligible to apply for a one-week self-retreat.) An application for a longer or
shorter period shall be considered on the same basis of ratio and principle. SBSRC
reserves the right to make exceptions to this rule at its discretion.
2. Endorsement by Recognised Referee. You must be endorsed by a recognised referee,
using our Letter of Reference (RC004). Please refer to the attached list of possible
referees.
c. Whether or not you have done a self-retreat here before, your application is still
subject to two other conditions: (i) availability of facilities and (ii) terms of our current
policy:
1. You must observe the 8 precepts.
2. The maximum duration for a self-retreat is 2 months.
3. After that, you would have to either be away for at least two months, or stay as our
volunteer worker (upon our request) for at least one month, before you can have
another self-retreat here.
Hope none of the above is an obstacle to your plan.
With mett,
SBSRC Sub-Committee
