Low density housing development achieving 6 star energy rating and including social housing
component .
The vision for the village is one of diverse housing designs ,innovation ,contemporary and
environmentally sensitive .low density development extends the urban character of nearby
Brunswick and by preserving existing vegetation the park like quality effects the integration with
Royal Park.
Heritage building occupy the focal point of the centre of the site connecting the new development
with the sites earlier history.
All of the cabins are timber and steel frames with coloured corrugated orb sheeting on the walls and

Type of structure : the building are of the thatched roofs with some as flat 25% of the structures
were temporary and rest 75% permanent.
Parkville gardens comprises some 1000 dwellings of various types including detached housing
,townhouses and apartments.
Terraces and verandahs link the private realm of the home with the public realm of the street. The
interplay of solid elements and the transparent bring an animated interior to the steetscape.

Location : the village site is only 20 minutes from Melbourne airport ,nine minutes to the city centre
and less than 15 minutes to the city centre and less than 15 minutes to all city venues. The site is
adjacent to royal park which offers a blend of open space ,mature trees ,sporting facilities and major
visitors attraction melbourne zoo.
The village will be a new building development incorporating high standard urabn design and
facilities.
For athletes and team officials, the location,design and parkland setting make the village a home
away from home without equal.
Site and accessibility :The site is only 3km from the city centre by car or bus ,and is accessible by
trains ,the convenient stops and staton throughout .a special bus terminal provides for transport to
competition and training venues.

Accommodation is available for up to 6000 athletes and team official in all new building in the village
,designed and built to a standard commensurate with their ultimate sale as high quality ,inner urban
dwelling in a new and sophisticated marketplace .the residential zone is separated via security from
the remainder of the village with access limited to athletes ,officials,accredited visitors and staff.
through the low rise nature ,the accommodation will provide easy access to disabled athletes and
officials.
Basic standard include:
Fully equipped bathroom facilities at a ratio of no less than one bathroom per five persons .
Lockable storage for personal effects .teams are located in adjoining areas and appropriate officials
will be housed integrally .the village incorporates a variety of pedestrainised street and open
spaces, utilising the existing mature vegetion on the site to provide a leafy atmosphere and
encourage interaction in the public area and formal spaces .it provides clear links to the interaction

recreational facilities in royal park and transport routes to the centre of the city of Melbourne.

International zone:
The international zone is an area still within the bounds of the village that has access rules that
allow media and accredited public etc to enter .the international zone utilites existing modern
building on the site ,supplemented by new structure to provide the following new facilities.
Administration centre:
Games transport office ,featuring secure meeting rooms and all conference facilities including
teleconference , fax ,internet and secretarial services.
Medical centre, including a physiotherapy ward and consulting rooms (it should be noted that some
of melbournes major health services ,including dental and physiotherapy are in hospitals located
1km across the adjacent royal park).central dining area ,including an seating capacity of
approximately 3000 and a kitchen capable of providing 20000 meals per day.
Key facts about the village :

Athletes and officials will live in 155 permanent houses ,68 apartments,14 townhouses and
115 cabins during the games.
During the games ,the village will be divided into six residential areas ,each representing a
part of Victoria.area include :great ocean road ,murray river , yarra valley ,little desert,
goldfields and high country.
The full list of services in the international zone is :ATM ,casual dining ,games room,internet
cafe,police station,ticket outlet,x-box entertainment zone ,post office ,florist,ice cream
parlour ,travel office,general store/drycleaning, engraving ,phone kiosk,photo shop,hair
salon/day spa , chefs meeting hall/cinema,merchandise outlet,bank,world anti doping
authority, lounge and meeting rooms.
The gym is fully fitted out with technogym equipment including 12 cardio machines
(treadmills ,steppers ,upright bikes,elite spin pro bikes); seven pin loaded weight machines;
free weights equipment and exercise mats and swiss balls.
The polyclinic will offer a range of medical services such as sports medicine, emergency
,podiatry,optometry,imaging,doping control ,physiotherapy and massage therapy.
The main dining hall can serve up to 20000 meals per day and can cater 1800 in any one
sitting.
