Eat-International Club Constitution

Article I
The state of California is blessed with great racial diversity. However, such a blessing can be a hindrance
when people fail to acknowledge the importance of understanding and respecting the customs of these
foreign people. In order to prevent this from happening in our school, the Eat-International Club, or Eatternational for short, has set out on a mission to provide an environment where people may learn about
the origins and cultures of countries all over the world through what we all love: food. Stack after stack of
tiresome research may be simplified down to hands-on exploration of diets (traditional or not) that reflect
the conditions of its representative group during the time when the cuisine was established. In order to
educate those interested in gaining worldly knowledge of their fellow students backgrounds, the EatInternational Club intends to lessen the possible misunderstandings between people of different roots.
Article II
The Eat-International Club does not have any restriction upon the eligibility of its members. All
Northwood Students have the privilege of joining the club.
Article III
The club would benefit from the aid of the following board positions: President, Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, Webmaster, and Publicity Chair. These positions are elected in the end of
each school year and will remain the same throughout the year. Only members actively participating in
the club for at least a semester have the right to run for the board and vote. Applicants for board members
will have to contact current board members for further information.
Article IV
President: Organizer of meetings and decides responsibilities of fellow board members. Plans events and
activities alongside Vice President. Must answer all questions that fellow club members may have
regarding the club. Enrolls club into activities, both outside of school and on campus. Needs to check and
make sure that the rest of the board members are doing their jobs. Obligated to assist overwhelmed board
members.
Vice President: Plans events and activities. Acts as a President when he/she is absent or unable to show.
Needs to understand the club rules thoroughly and be able to explain to puzzled club members.
Secretary: Keeps track of the results of a meeting and also the food sign-up sheet (see further explanation
in Articles IX and X.) Keeps an accurate record of the meeting times/minutes and will turn it in by the
end of the year.
Treasurer: Keeps track of all the monetary expenses possibly involved in activities. Responsible for all
funds the Club earns through fundraisers.
Historian: Keeps track of all the events suitable to go down in the history of this club through whichever
ways most suitable. This information must be beneficial towards the club for future use. Works with the
web master if the way of record is related to the web. Highly recommended to capture photos during
important events.
Webmaster: Responsible for sustaining a website, blog, or network where club members may get the
latest updates and news of upcoming events. Should be in possession of all club members emails for
contacts. Also recommended to capture photos during important events.

Publicity Chair: Responsible for all advertisements and banner design. Artist of the club; carries on the
duty of directing decorations or approving designs for special events. Should be someone who is fairly
talented or experienced in art or graphic designs.
Article V
An officer may be removed in the case when he/she does not pay proper respect towards fellow members
of the club or fail to accomplish his/her assigned responsibility after the second offense. He/she will not
be able to run for the board and will not be allowed to be part of the club. The Eat-International Club
stresses the importance of respect especially when we are sharing cultures of different groups.
Article VI
It is the Eat-International Clubs goal to direct fundraisers that would benefit our school. The club will be
holding a monthly food booth on campus after school; it is expected that members should be able to raise
funds through this sale. In addition, the funds should reimburse the costs of materials purchased to make
the food fair possible. If there should be surplus funds after the costs of materials are covered, those
should go to the school as donations in order to improve the environment of the school campus.
Article VII
The Eat-International Club should not involve any high-risk activities. Therefore verification of insurance
or prevention of possible exposure to risks other than the basic understanding of school safety rules is not
necessary. However, it is important that the participants of the club should be aware of what they are
consuming and the contents of it. All members with allergies should pay extra attention to the
composition of the food.
Article VIII
The Eat-International Club obeys the 2/3-majority vote of members present in terms of amending the
constitution as see fit for points or situations ignored. These adjustments should be agreed upon through
the clubs board members.
Article IX
As mentioned in Article VI, the Eat-International Club aspires to host a monthly food fair within
Northwood High School, where we sell healthy and delicious food for a reasonable price to our fellow
students. The dishes sold at the booths or fairs would correspond to the cultural "Theme of the Month",
chosen by popular vote by members of the club. In additions to these monthly fairs, there will be at least
one presentation of foods in relation to the Theme of the Month. This is an activity in which members
will confront a board member and fill out a sign-up sheet for "Food Adoption." This is a process where
members are allowed to choose a dish from the culture of the month and present its facts and origin. The
member presenting is required to bring the actual dish itself and share it with the fellow club members as
part of the presentation. The "Food Adoption" sign-up sheet should display the following: 1) date of
presentation, 2) name of presenter, 3) name of dish, 4) e-mail of the presenter. This is necessary to
maintain order and prevent ten people presenting the same dish. There will be a separate sign-in sheet that
serves as the record of members' attendances.
Article X

As mentioned in the previous article, the Food Adoption activity should enable all members of the club
to have a voice in the group. Every 5-10 minutes presentation should be entertaining, interesting, and
educating. The presentation (and food fair booths) must include a list of materials involved in the
production of the dish for those who may possibly have any allergic reactions. Audiences are allowed
make comments and questions concerning the presentation in the end. For those too timid or
inexperienced to do presentations, it is also an option to present with a partner. This is not something for a
grade; therefore it should not be scary at all. The Eat-International Club promotes positive interaction
between members and should have a great atmosphere where cultures are understood and acknowledged.
