First Choice :

In the Special Burmese Buddhist Women Marriage Protection Act 1954, one of the
relevant provision says :
"If a non-Buddhist man (probably Burmese man) cohabits with Burmese Buddhist women
which amount to husband and wife and regardless of what the non-Buddhist man
religion, customary or personal law, if there is a dispute of family law matter , it will be
decided according to the Burmese Buddhist Law."
What would either the liberal/cultural/radical feminist say to that law? Pick any two,
whether they would have the same/different view on that particular provision. 60-70% on
your argument focus on what they would say and another 30-40% is your own personal
opinion with reasons regarding this issue.
Second Choice :
Comment on the proposed draft law : Burmese Buddhist Women Marriage Law.
1. If a non-Buddhist man wants to marry Buddhist women below the age of 20,
permission/consent by the women's parents must be obtained.
2. Notice of intended marriage must be announced by the local council to local
community to see whether there is any objection to the marriage.
3. Non-Buddhist man must convert to Buddhism if they marry a Burmese Buddhist
women.
4. If the non-Buddhist man tries to convert the Burmese Buddhist women to his own
religion, he may be prosecuted, fined and jailed.
What would either the liberal/cultural/radical feminist say to that? Pick any two to
compare, whether they would have the same/different view.
What is your own opinion and reasons on this draft law?
Third Choice :
New law on Monogamous Marriage Draft Law.
1. It apply to all persons residing in Burma including foreigners.
2. It recognises any marriage done under any other Act, religious law, customary law,
unless that particular law are in contradiction with this monogamous law.
For example, it would recognises marriage done under Syariah law. But even if Syariah
law allows polygamous marriage, so long as you are residing in Burma, the polygamous
marriage is invalid.
What would the liberal/cultural/radical feminist say to that proposal? Pick any two to
compare, whether they would have the same/different view.
What do you personally think to that draft law? Take note that it would abolish the
centuries customary law by legislation and you should comment on this.
