Abstract
The purpose of this qualitative research has the main purposes of learning the reasons behind
the secondary students truant behavior, the process of this happening, and how to solve the behavior.
The information are acquired by in-depth interview, studying 6 students who skipped the class, 3 students
in their peer group, 2 people from group of their teachers and the teachers in schools administration.
Total number of the research group is 11 people and the conclusion of the researchs results are
describe below; The truant behavior of the students firstly comes from learning and teaching: in English
class, they couldnt understand the foreign teacher, are bored of him and the teacher couldnt make
them understand and speak so fast. Most of the students tend to skip the class because of overload
assignments during the class time. Secondly, the classrooms atmosphere makes the students bored and
they would like to escape because their friends make loudly unpleasant noise which would give up their
attention. Moreover, the teacher repeatedly complains about the other students mistakes and the
students would like to study in the other school. Thirdly, their peer group persuades other friends to skip
the class. They do not have close friend and lack of encouragement. Besides, their peer group persuades
each other to play Ping-Pong. Fourthly, lack of the students discipline causes discouragement of difficult
subjects such as English. The students could not understand and are bored of their teacher. The reasons
are the poor teaching method of the teacher, unfinished homework and laziness of the students resulting
in unready intention to start studying some subjects.
For the process of this happenings, the truant behavior might begin with the boredom of some
class especially English class taught by the foreign teacher. The foreign teacher could not make the
students understand and lack of some classs attendance check. The students could not concentrate
because of loud noise in the class. Their peer group of 3-4 students who do not understand the
curriculum and the students are bored. The students normally persuade each other to begin the truant
behavior. To conclude, there are 2 kind of the behaviors; skipping the class during the class time and to
go out of the school.
It could be said that the students who have truant behavior and their peer group could not have
sustainable way to lessen this behavior. There are only acceptable ways to help bate the behavior by
setting up the security camera, arrange security guards schedule, giving attentions to friends and telling
them the advantages of studying English subject. Moreover, the schools director and parents should
coordinate and work together with various related parties to get involved and take care of the truants
behavior.
