BHUSD backs down following

Weeklys PRA request
The Board
of Education
finally disclosed billing
information
pertaining to
Tim Bureshs
involvement
in producing
three videos
with KBEV
on the Metro
issue after
Shaheen Manshoory
a December
2014 Public
Records Act (PRA) request by Beverly
Hills Weekly.
Attorney Shaheen Manshoory, who
represented the Weekly in this action, sent
a second letter to the District on January
22. In his letter, Manshoory stated that

there is solid legal precedent for disclose of any payment made by any local
agency which includes school districts.
In his letter response to Manshoory,
BHUSD General Counsel Vincent Ewing
wrote that the District wishes to settle
this matter amicably and avoid a legal
dispute. Ewing enclosed the requested
documents, which outline 18 separate
payments totaling $7,260 made to Buresh
from September 6, 2014 to October 28,
2014 for his contribution to the videos.
We knew our position was correct and
were glad that the District decided to
reveal information that we knew would be
revealed under the Public Records Act,
Manshoory said.
As of press time, part one of the purportedly student-produced Why We

on YouTube. Published on December 3,
2014, part two has been viewed 1,358
times on YouTube. Part three, published
on December 4, 2014, has been viewed
1,281 times on YouTube. Based on the
fees paid to Buresh and the videos total
number of views, each view cost the
District $1.33.
Although the District did disclose the
fees paid to Buresh, it chose to withhold a considerable amount of the billing
information contained in the two separate
invoice files, arguing it is covered by
attorney-client privilege.
