Campus Capers
MICA Incubator Centre hosted a winter school with CEPT,
Ahmedabad, MIT Fablab and Motwani Jadeja Family
Foundation (MJFF) with the view to work towards creating
marketing & communication strategy/materials and also
played host to 25 students from University of California,
Berkeley, Haas School of Business at MICA to educate
them on the nuances of the Indian entrepreneurship
ecosystem. This apart, the Centre also organized a round
table on Raising Finance for your Venture where
several private enterprises, venture capitalists, bankers and
start-ups spoke on different issues and aspects of raising
finance for start ups and also held 2 Demo Days in
association with EChai Ventures and Point 10 which
featured presentations by early stage business start up by
students and youth community.

KEIC updated its Dissertation database and provided
fulltext access of all dissertations since 1994-1996 (1st
batch) to 2012-14 (19th batch) through its Digital Library
besides developing an A to Z Electronic Periodicals (A
periodical finder) service for all its users, a One-StopSearch of 10000+ electronic periodicals.
Dr.Meena Shah, a leading health care medical practitioner
conducted workshops on "Positive Health Options" for faculty
and staff while Dr.Nimrat Singh, a well-known student

counselor began her engagement at MICA by taking


personality development and career counseling sessions for
the students as part of MICA's endeavor to help its students
address the challenges and concerns in their academic lives.

Preparations for MICA's 2nd edition of the International


Communication Management Conference (ICMC) got
underway. The Conference will be held on the MICA
campus from 19-21 February, 2015 and the theme is
Digital Futures: Content, Community and
Communication. Registrations are open and those
interested may visit www.mica.ac.in/icmc/registration.
Jagriti (MICA's CSR Wing) along with the Red Cross
Society organized a Blood Donation camp on campus
which saw a great turnout among students, launched a
cleanliness awareness campaign at the nearby villages
viz. Shela, Telav and Ghuma around MICA in collaboration
with MICAVaani (MICA's Community Radio). Besides this,
students organized fund collection drives to provide cash
and kind for support staff working on campus.
MICA held MDPs on 'Effective Leadership
Communication in Organizations' for senior management
professionals from various companies and on 'Bridging
the Gap in Health Communication'. It also held a 1-Day
Consultation on 'Media and Public Health' in partnership
with George Institute for Global Health, Oxford
University and UNICEF- Gujarat. Elsewhere, MICA and
Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Program
started its new collaboration on research by working on a
mobile health project with fieldwork in Samastipur, Bihar.

Sankalp MICA's Theatre Society staged 'Revelation


11:11 - The Trial' an adaptation of Ayn Rand's 'Night of
January 16th' as part of its annual production at Natrani
Theatre, Ahmedabad.

CulComm (MICA's Cultural Committee) celebrated Culnite,


Oorja with the traditional garba and Diwali on campus.
Besides this, MICA students also held a DJ Nite, Dance and
Aerobic Workshops and Business, Mythology and
Bollywood Quizzes. Studio7 MICA's in-house music band
kick-started the season with the inauguration of their very
own Jam Pad.

The 13th edition of MICANVAS, MICA's Annual Marketing


Festival saw the campus come alive to an electric buzz of
feverish activity with a lot of fun and festivity.

There were formal events like MindSpeak and various


competitions that tested both body and mind. Industry
luminaries who were in attendance included Mr.Yogesh
Bellani, Chief Executive Officer of FieldFresh Foods Ltd ,
Mr.Kunal Jeswani, Chief Digital Officer, Ogilvy India,
Mr.Rajeev Sathyesh, Country Marketing Manager, Gillette
India, Mr.Sanjay Tripathy, Sr. EVP - Marketing, Product,
Digital and E Commerce, HDFC Life, Mr.Sanjay Mehta,
Jt. CEO, Social Wavelength and Mr.Pradyuman
Maheshwari, CXO and Editor-in-Chief at MXMIndia.

The informal events saw 6 various rock bands perform as


part of E#, a semi-pro band competition followed by an
electric performance by Parvaaz (a Bangalore-based rock
band) as part of the Coke Studio night - a first of its kind
being held at MICA, a tie-up with Coke Studio, a celebrated
musical global property finally ending in a crescendo with
a high-octane performance by Papon & the East India
Company, a folk fusion band featuring Papon a wellknown film singer and composer.

The MICA Premier League (MPL) a cricket tournament for


faculty and staff finally reached its climax with the finals
which saw the winning team being awarded the coveted
Raghavendra Rao Trophy by renowned Indian Test and
ODI player Parthiv Patel.

The MICA alumni met at Delhi and Bangalore for the annual
city meets which saw the MICA of the past meet the MICA of
the present and speak about the MICA of the future.
The month also saw MICA building special ramps and
inclines at various places leading to office buildings,
hostels and classrooms with a view to make the campus
user friendly for those who are physically challenged.

The last 3 months of 2014 saw MICA faculty busy
teaching, institutional building, attending conferences,
researching and getting their papers published in refereed journals.
MICA faculty such as Profs. Varsha Jain, Manisha ShelatPathak, Nagesh Rao, TT Sreekumar, and Shailesh Yagnik
saw their work published in such internationally refereed
journals such as Journal of Marketing Communication
(Taylor and Francis, UK), Transnational Marketing

expert panels, resource pools, deliver inaugural addresses
, key-note speeches and lectures, work with internationally
renowned researchers as Visiting Guests at forums such
as Media Asia, Medill School, Northwestern University,
IIM-Lucknow, Birla Sunlife Asset Management Company,
INFLIBNET, Gandhinagar, Nirma University, 3rd India-New

international Conferences such as 'Beyond 2015' held at
the UN City, Copenhagen, Denmark, International
Inspired by this, Research Associates such as Rahul
Mane, Krishna Mishra, Durva Shastri also chipped in and
got their research articles published in esteemed journals
and newspapers.

Staff and Above-the-Line!


Jalp Lakhia (Design & Publication Dept.) was invited to serve
as a jury member at NIFT Gandhinagar and MSU Baroda,
Faculty of Fine Arts (Applied Arts) besides getting invitations to
conduct workshops at NIFT and NID.

Presenting the Students of the Term

Smriti Srivastava (PGP- 2013-15) was chosen as one


among 19 Young Leaders from various B-Schools across
the country by the Economic Times Young Leaders
Edition 2014 while Anu Radhakrishnan (PGP 2013-15
batch) was selected to represent MICA at the HUL Premier
30 League Tree 2014. This apart, MICA students shone at
blue-ribbon national competitions such as Google Online
Marketing Lab, Institute of Management, Nirma University,
the finals of COMSTRAT by FCB Ulka, Mahindra Warroom
- Zonal and National finals, MDI Gurgaon, IIM
Ahmedabad, IIM Lucknow, IIM-Kozhikode, P&G CEO
Challenge, National Finals of LIME Season 6 organized by
Hindustan Unilever Limited and CNBC TV 18, Tata Jagriti
Yatra to name a few.

This apart, Abhishek Saha, famous actor/director, wellknown animator Vaibhav Kumaresh and veteran theatre
activist Arvind Gaur came to MICA to conduct workshops
and showcase their work.
