Excavation for Boiler Foundations.

(1.0) PURPOSE
(1.1) To define the procedure for excavation work for Boiler Foundations.
(2.0) SCOPE
(2.1) This method statement is only applicable for excavation work for Boiler
Foundations.
(3.0) DEFINITIONS
(3.1) PM: Project Managers (Sub-Contractor)
(3.2) QHSE: Quality, Health Safety &Environment
(3.3) PPE: Personal Protective Equipment
(4.0) RESPONSIBILITIES
(4.1) HSE Engr. along with Project Site Manager/Site Engr. is responsible to identify
associated hazards of any activity.
(4.2) HSE Engr. along with Project Site Manager/Site Engr. is responsible to carry
out risk assessment of hazards in any activity.
(4.3) HSE Engr. or his representative is responsible to ensure the implementation
method statements at site.
(4.4) Project Manager/Site Engr. is responsible to provide all necessary resources for
the implementation of safe working instructions.
(4.5) Site Manager / Engineer is responsible to implement method statements at site.
(5.0) PROCEDURE
(5.1) Prior to start of activity get PTW (Permit to Work) from the client.
(5.2) Prior to start the activity; check for the underground cables at the working
location.
(5.3) Barricade the area with danger tapes around the excavation area.

(5.4) After the inspection, approval for layout by client representative, manual
excavation will be done.
(5.5) Compressor Hilti or manual excavation will be done.
(5.6) First we mark the locations of excavation areas on the ground as per layout
drawings (foundation dimensions must be covered in marked points for
excavation).
(5.7) Project team shall ensure that excavation is done according to the approved
drawings / layout.
(5.8) Ladder or scaffolding will be used for ingress and egress, when excavation
depth exceeds 1.5 m.
(5.9) Excavated material shall be stacked outside the wall from the excavated area for
backfilling.
(5.10) Special care will be taken to dump the useless excavated material on a
designated area.
(5.11) Excavation will be done till required depth as per drawing.
(5.12) Dewatering pump will be used in the excavated areas, if standing water
accumulated from either ground water or from the rain water.
(5.13) Lighting will be available for night work if needed.
(5.14) Showering will be doneon excavated material twice a day.
(5.15) After given bottom level achieved, surface shall be cleaned & all loose material
will be moved to the permitted area & bring it to the required level for lean
concrete.
(6.0) Required PPE: Safety Helmet, Safety Shoes, Gloves, Dust mask, Safety Goggles,
Ear plug, Warning Tape (for Barricading), Ladder or scaffolding,
Safety Harness.

(7.1)Always wear the recommended PPE for the activity.


(7.2) In case of excavation, secure the area with visible barricading.
(7.3) Safety harness should wear, when manual excavation will be done at more than
1.5 m depth
(7.4) Ensure hard barricading when excavation exceeds 1.5 m.
(7.5) Necessary housekeeping shall be done.
