Digipak Design Planning

Plastic Dots Logo

Hayley McCarthy

Due to the style of the original logo, by highlighting the text within the image layer, this created a
jagged, unrened edge which looked unsuitable for a professional product. Because of this, I
identied this font as Arial Black, and placed each individual letter over the top of the existing
image, creating a new arrangement with the same position and scale as the previous logo. This
resulted a crisp design that I shall use as a foundation for the progression of the house style.

Referring back to my original sketches, I played with inverting the logo, placing it within a circle as well as on a
plain background, creating varying aesthetics. Considering the digipak as a whole, my intention is for the outside
to be a continuous colour inspired by Reckless Kellys digipak I analysed. For this reason, I believe that the rst
example will be most eective, with black a colour that was extremely eective in Bowies digipak. The version
without the circle is impacting due to the high contrast, however I feel that the circle is a motif that stays true to
the original logo as well as giving the opportunity for it to become part of the house style.

Looking back to my analyses, I decided to apply Bowies obscuring shape motif onto my own photo. Whilst the
concept is eective, I dont think this is portraying the correct message for this band. As emerging artists, they
are doing anything but obscuring themselves, and hence I will not continue this on. I have however
experimented with the use of the circle over the image, in order to see how this motif translates onto anything
other than a solid background moving forward to the magazine advert design.
