Bob Aus is head teacher of mathematics at Merewether High School, Newcastles selective high school. In 199495 he was mathematics consultant for the Hunter Region. He has taught at Blacktown Boys High, Cumberland High, Riverstone High and Kempsey High. Bob is currently Secretary of Newcastle Mathematical Association, having been President in 199596, and has presented papers at MANSW and AAMT conferences. Kylie Boucher began her career as head teacher of mathematics at Motufoua Secondary College in Tuvalu, a small island nation in the South Pacific. She has since taught mathematics in Australian secondary schools and has been writing mathematics textbooks and teacher resources since 1998. Recently, Kylie has been working full-time writing mathematics texts. David Coffey has been teaching mathematics in provincial state government high schools for 25 years. He has a special interest in students at the two ends of high school: Year 7 students, who are keen to learn and explore the new structures of the high school, and Year 12 students, who are making their final preparations for moving into the adult world. David also has an interest in the use of technology in mathematics, especially graphics calculators. He has been writing mathematics textbooks since 1997 and has delivered sessions at several mathematics association conferences. John Compton has taught for over 35 years in the New South Wales public education system, including Ashford Central, Oak Flats High School, Francis Greenway High School, Wallsend High School and Callaghan College. He is currently head teacher of mathematics in Mt View High School. He has co-authored and planned a number of Excel study guides for years 712. He is currently vitally involved in the Counting On project in schools, has been an HSC marker for 10 years and has delivered papers at head teacher conferences. Allan Fowler has been teaching mathematics for over 30 years. He is currently teaching at Gosford High School. Allan has presented many in-service courses in mathematics, especially in the areas of enrichment and the use of technology in the classroom. Allan is also the author of the successful Heinemann Software Design and Development textbooks. Nicola Silva has been teaching mathematics in the government and private sector for 26 years since completing a Bachelor of Applied Science (Mathematics) and Diploma in Education. In schools in which she has taught, Nicola has set up remedial mathematics as well as gifted and talented programs and has always been involved in curriculum development. Nicola has also taught first-year university mathematics and is at present teaching at a private girls school. Dirk Strasser taught mathematics in regional and city schools for 12 years before becoming a full-time mathematical textbook writer and publisher. He believes it is possible to produce a mathematical series that gets all the fundamentals right and is appealing to students. Allan Wybrow is currently the head teacher of mathematics at Miller Technology High School, a school in South Western Sydney. He has strong beliefs about how mathematics should be taught in the 21st century, in developing literacy and numeracy skills for students, and about how technology should be incorporated into the mathematics classroom. He has a strong interest in the professional development of teachers and the teaching and learning cycle.
