Arabic Calligraphy

Arabic is the language of Islam. It is the language in which the

Koran, Islams sacred scripture (text) is written, and it is the
language in which Muslims worship. This common language of
worship and study binds all Muslims together.
Because of Muslims profound respect for the Koran, the art of
calligraphy has been developed to a very high level. Calligraphy
is an artistic form of writing in any language and takes a great
deal of skill to achieve. Calligraphy generally is written with long,
curving lines that widen and narrow. In America, fancy
advertisements, invitations, and certificates frequently use

Across the Muslim world, verses from the Koran decorate

mosques (Muslims places of worship), palaces, homes, public
areas. The calligraphy is often combined with other decorations,
like geometric designs, to add beauty to what is sacred and
precious.
Arabic is read from right to left and has an alphabet of 26 letters.
