InSeptember2013duringtheELOconferenceinParis,technicalaspects,editorialconcerns,
andgrantissuesweresettledandapprovedbytheCELLpartners,regardingthe
preproductionandtestingphaseoftheproject.

Itwasagreedthatthreedatabaseswouldbeusedinthetestingphase:

LABORATOIRENT2

Forthepreproductionphase,thesedatabasesneedtomeetallthetechnicalrequirements.
Wehavetoagreeonadateforthebeginningofthetestingphase,andNovemberor
DecemberwerementionedduringtheParismeeting.Wepropose
January2014
,justtobe
onthesafeside.

Assoonaseachlocaldatabaseisreadyforthetestingphase,thetechnicalteamofNT2will
workondevelopingandadjustingDrupalmodulesandconfiguringthesearchenginewhile
theotherpartnersgetreadytojointheproductionphase,orinotherwords,meetthetechnical
requirements.

technicalrequirementsbeforebeingindexedintothesearchengine.

Ahostingstrategyincludingtheinfrastructureandserverdetailswillbesenttoyou
shortly.

ThesearchinterfaceandDrupalconfigurationwillbe
mirroredbyADELTA
,onthe
governmentalhostingsolutiontheyproposed.

Thesharedinterface,orthe
searchwebsite,
willbebuiltona

platform.
Assoonassomefundsaregathered,a
shellsite
canbebuilt.Thismoneywillbe
usedtosetupageneralsitestructureforthefuturesearchengine/interface.
Theshellsitewillcomeinhandyforgrantsubmissionsasitcanbeshownasa
previewofthefinalformtheCELLprojectwilltake.Thisplatformcouldbeusedto
provideinformationabouttheCELLProject.(Littleornodesignwouldberequiredfor
thisbetaversion.WelljustselectapreexistingDrupaltheme).

EDITORIAL COMMITTEE

OneofthedecisionsthatwasmadeinSeptember2013wastocreateanEditorialCommittee
todiscussspecificsontaxonomies,nameauthorities,amongotherthings.

TheEditorialCommitteewillbeinchargeofmakingeditorialproposalstobesubmittedtothe
otherpartnersforapprovalsodecisionscouldbemakefaster.
Itsresponsibilitiesshouldinclude:

Theelaborationofataxonomystrategy.
(Pleasenotethatpriortothis,wewillhavetoconductananalysisofthecurrentlocal
taxonomiesandcontents.Thatway,thepartnerswillbeprovidedapreciseoverviewoftheir
owncontentaswellastheotherpartnersandwillbeabletoselecttheappropriate
vocabulariesandtermsfortheproject.)
Decidingonwhichfieldsshouldbetaxonomized.(Thisimpliesthatforcertainfieldsalimited
amountoftermscanbeselected.)

Atthispointitisimportanttorepeatthat
everypartnerwillorcanpreservehis
taxonomyonalocallevel
.ThedeterminationofaglobalCELLtaxonomydoesnot
impactthetaxonomyinplacelocally.Itwillonlystructurethesearchinterface
semanticsinordertoallowtheusertonavigatethroughtheresultsmoreefficiently.

Thisimpliesthat:

wontallowfreetagging.
TheCELLtaxonomy
wontbemodifiable.
Onceitwillbedetermined,itwont
changethroughtime.Itwillbeimportanttobuildataxonomyasbroadlyaspossibleso
thatitcanefficientlyofferaglobalrepresentationofallcontentdisplayablebythe
searchengine.Thetaggingwilldefineacontentmorespecificallybytheassociationof
thetaxonomictermsusedfortagging.Thisbeingsaid,ifmodificationsarenecessary
(toreflectcontemporarychangesinresearch),theycouldbedonewiththeapprovalof
allpartners,yearly.
EverypartnerwillneedtoimporttheCELLtaxonomyontheirlocaldatabase.Itcan
bedisplayedonthelocalwebsiteorremaininvisible.Thatdecisionwillbemade
independentlybyeverymember,accordingtothestructurealreadyinplace.
EverypartnerwillneedtotagtheircontentwiththeCELLtaxonomyforittobe
operationalontheCELLsearchinterface.Thisisoneofthereasonswhythe
taxonomyneedstobepermanent.Itisalmostimpossibletoretagallcontentsifanew
termisaddedtothelist.
Theoriginaltaxonomiesofeachmembersdatabasewillbedisplayedinafield
throughthesearchresultsinterfaceoftheCELLprojectWebsite,butwillnotbe
integratedtothesearchprotocol.

Justtoemphasizethedifferencebetweenkeywordsandtaxonomy,asunderstoodon
atechnicallevel:Thekeywordsarethewordsauserwillputinasearchboxthatwill
generateresultsdisplayedbythesearchengine,andthetaxonomyactslikea
semanticstructureofallcontentdisplayablebythesearchengine.Itallowstheuserto
addfiltersonaspecificsearchandnavigatethroughcontentsmoreeasily.Itdefines
thedatabasespectrum.Thus,thekeywordssearchandthetaxonomyare
complementary.

Fromthesearchinterface,ausercanproceedtosearchby
enteringkeywordsinthesearchbox.

Then,dependingontheresults,hecandecidetoaddfiltersto
definethesearchbyusingthetaxonomylocatedintheleft
sidebar.

Wecouldcallthismethod(forthepurposeofclearcommunication)asemanticdivision
ofcontentorasemanticoverview.

c)Fields
Taxonomiescouldalsobeinjecteddirectlyviacertainfields.Thismethodis
complementarytothesemanticoverview.Itisapplicabletofieldsthatarespecific
enoughtobedeclinedinalimitedamountofterms.

Forinstance,thegroupdecidedboth
media
and
tags
wouldbesharedandbothcould
betaxonomized.

For
media
itcouldeasilybedeclined(defined?)inlimitedterms.Ifinafew
years/months/minutes,anewmediatypecomesalong,welldecideifwewanttoadd
ittothelist,andretagallcontents.Butthisoperationcantbedoneonaregularbasis.

For
tags
,thatswherethesemanticoverviewisrelevant.Insteadofauthorizingfree
tagging,weprovidealistofcarefullychosentermsdividedincategoriesthatare
generalenoughtoaccommodateallcontents,butbytheirassociation,willdefineit
morespecifically.

For
license
itcouldeasilybedeclined(defined?)inlimitedterms.Ifanewlicensetype
comesalong,welldecideifwewanttoaddittothelist,andretagallcontents.Butthis
operationcantbedoneonaregularbasis.

Thesearesuggestions.
TheEditorialCommitteeshouldsettledonthisafteracontentanalysisofthebiggest
databases.

neededfortheshellwebsitecouldbedeterminedafterabriefdescriptionoftheCELLs
needs.
