Classifications

From the BBFCs website we will decide what classification our film to be. The classification are
there in order to protect children from unsuitable and harmful scene in the films; that is why
there are 7 different rankings that help the consumers see who can watched and what the film
has. E.G. 12 rank tells the consumer that there will be some kind of romance and kissing,
however, 12A tells the consumers that under 12 can go watch a 12 rated film but with an adult ,
as protection, as all 12 rated films are different. The ratings are done by someone in the BBFC
watching all the films, all the way through; and award a age rating and insight to each new film
that are going to be in the cinemas. These are the 7 different ratings:

U stands for Universal (four years and over)

PG stands for Parental Guidance (aged eight or/and older)
12 is when little rang of bad language or

sexcual

scenes are show (children aged under 12)

12A requires an adult to accompany any child under 12
15 contains strong violence, strong language, sexual activity, drug taking, ect.
(No-one under 15)

18 are for adults ( no one under 18 can watch it) contains strong violence,
language, sexual activity, horror, blood and gore, etc.
18R To be shown only in specially licensed cinemas, or supplied only in licensed
sex shops, and to adults only.

To identify the issues and what rating they should give, they look at things such as
discrimination, drugs, horror, dangerous and easily imitable behaviour, language, nudity, sex,

and violence when making decisions. It is important that the BBFCs classification standards are
in line with what the public expects and that its decisions take account of what the public finds
acceptable at each age category; that why every 4-5 years, the BBFC check and change the
classification guidelines. the rating is from U to R18; and the BBFC also set out laws and
principles to insure that all audience/ consumers are happy with the ratings of the films.

After reviewing the BBFC site, we as a group have decided that our film should be rated 15 and
over. This means that under 15 year olds cannot watch our films. we have chosen this rating as
our film is about the modern teenagers that drink alcohol and take drugs, some kind of sexual
activity and nudity will be involved. Not only that but violence, strong language which, onder 15
year olds should not be able to watch. Some scenes in our film might/will contain the use of a
daily used object being used as a weapon, this may give the under 15 year olds an irrational
fear of that specific object, or encourage to use it in real life. The film also may not be suitable for
those who suffer from epilepsy as the movie consists of continuous flashes when the
crosscutting of scenes occur.
