Drink-driver loses licence for four

years
By April 16, 2004, 10:52 a.m.

A 45-year-old drink-driver who was more than five times over the legal blood alcohol limit
when intercepted by police in Bendigo was yesterday ordered off the road for four years.
Appearing in Bendigo Magistrates Court, Kenneth
McMahon, of Hollywood Court, Bendigo, was also
convicted and fined $1250, after pleading guilty to
exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol.

The court heard McMahon was driving along Crook

Street when intercepted by police for a routine
preliminary breath test in November last year.
After being taken to Bendigo Police Station he
recorded a blood alcohol reading of .275.
Defence lawyer Carole Ainio said McMahon had
since shown remorse for his behaviour and
undergone counselling.

However, Magistrate Bruce Cottrill said the offence

was very serious and deserved the appropriate punishment.
"Such a blood alcohol level would render you entirely incapable of driving safely," he
said.
"In that state you are a danger not only to yourself, but also to the community." McMahon
was disqualified for driving for four years and fined $1250.
