9 Key Frames

These are my 9 key frames for my creative artefact, I had my actors perform
every scene and I took photographs of the performance. I then chose 9 photos,
which gave a chronological representation of my sequence for my film, Dont
Go and display a clear narrative in support of my script.

Key Frame 1:

In this medium shot we see, the main character Jordan. Jordan is returning home
after being attacked in the midway sequence for my film. There is a faint violin
sound in the background; of non-diegetic score music creating a feeling of sorrow
and filling the scene with negativity, it also indicates that something tragic has
just happened to Jordan. This presents Jordan to be a very unfortunate character,
which comes in support of what we can see. Jordan comes struggles through the
door, hunched over and clutching his body, which clearly shows that he is in pain
also his is holding himself up using the door. This shows that he is shaken up
from the death of his friend Jamal and from the physical pain hes enduring from
the attack, in conjunction with this, the diegetic sound of his heavy breathing,
shows he is distraught and is struggling to come to terms with his friends death.
It also shows that he is fighting back his emotions as he doesnt want his true
feelings to be on show. The lighting was edited to look very vibrant inside yet
dark on the outside through the doorway, this shows that Jordan has escaped
from the danger and pain outside and is now safe and protected in the comfort of
his home.

Key Frame 2:

]n this medium close up shot we see Jordan washing himself, His eyes are
intensely looking down at his hands. This shows that his pain and sorrow is now
being replaced by pure anger, the use of water as a prop supports this as it
shows that whilst one feeling is being washed away, another is being washed
over him. The colour white shows, that Jordan feels much safer than he did
moments ago and is now starting to feel less on edge. The diegetic sound of
running water represents the tears that Jordan wants to shed, but his pride and
anger doesnt allow him to do so.

Key Frame 3:

Now in the safety and privacy of his bathroom, Jordan takes the time to look back
on what just happened. As an audience we can clearly see that he still struggling
to come to terms with Jamals death, we can also see that he still doesnt want to
show his emotions as he is covering his face. The bright lighting show that his
emotions are the key focus in this scene and that his emotions will have a major
part in the actions he decides to take later in the film. The colour white signifies
that his mind is lost in his emotions and his choice in decisions comes as a result
of that. Alternatively it shows the pure feelings of sorrow he feels for Jamal whom
he cared for so much, as he was like a brother to him.

Key Frame 4:

Hear we see Jordan on the phone telling someone from his gang what happened.
The expression on his face, show that his feelings and emotions are becoming
more prominent as he speaks about them. The diegetic sound of his voice shows
that he Is becoming more and more angry as he recalls the attack and Jamals
death. The colour has been edited to show that his pure feelings of sorrow are
mixing with impure feelings of anger and thoughts of revenge. Jordans constant
shuffling shows that he is becoming uneasy and feels that he has to take action
to restore what he feels will be justice. The dialogue Im going to kill every
single one of them confirms to us as an audience that he is going to take action
against his attacker in retaliation.

Key Frame 5:

In this frame we see Jordan hang up the phone, the expression on his face shows
that he is starting to doubt whether seeking revenge is the right course of action
and that his decision was made purely on the basis of anger. The medium close
up shot not only allows us to see the doubt on his face, it also shows that he is
contemplating whether to call the caller back and tell him to not to gather
everyone. The non-diegetic crescendo of a drum in the background creates
suspense, leaving us as an audience on edge to see if he makes the call or
continues with the plan.

Key Frame 6:

In this frame we see Jordan return the sink to wash his face and cool himself
down. The diegetic sound of water fades out the non-diegetic sound of the drum
as it reaches its peak in volume, this shows that Jordan is definitely going to
continue on with his plan. In conjunction with the use of water as a prop, it shows
that Jordan has washed off feelings of doubt and regret and has become
saturated with the thoughts and feelings of revenge and anger. His eyes being
closed show that he has closed himself off from all other choices and actions and
can only see justice being restored through giving Jamals killers the same fate,
which he had.

Key Frame 7:

Hear we see Jordan collect the gun, the gun has been position in the middle of
the frame so our attention as an audience is fixed so on it, this shows that the
gun has a major involvement later in in the film. The lighting has been edited so
that a streak of light is running across the barrel of the gun, this indicates that
only a small fraction of getting will bring Jordan happiness, whereas it will mostly
bring negativity not only for him but those that love and care for him. The use of
the chopping board as a prop gives dark thoughts a light hearted representation,
as audience we see the chopping board as common kitchen equipment but when
we look deeper into it and read the words on the board, we see that they are all
violent ways and means to inflict pain and get revenge on someone.

Key Frame 8:

In this frame, Alex stops Jordan and him. Jordans blank facial expression shows
that he isnt interested in what Alex has to say, as nothing can change his
decision now. Alternatively it indicates that he doesnt want to say anything in
case feelings of regret start to come back and take hold, which is supported by
the fact he doesnt use any dialogue. The lighting has been edited so that the
room is bright but the two characters remain in the dark, as an audience this
shows us that Jordan is shrouded by anger and thoughts of revenge but also that
Alex is upset and scared for Jordan. For costume, the black clothing Alex is
wearing disables her from standing out, this shows that she has little to no
impact on influencing Jordans final decision. Jordans position next to the white
door signifies that Jordan has one last chance to make the right decision which
will lead to happiness and peace for Himself and Alex, however if he doesnt
make that decision happiness and peace will be sealed off forever.

Key Frame 9:

In the final frame for my sequence, we see Jordan exiting his house. The lighting
has been edited so that half of his face is covered in darkness, this shows that
Jordan is confined to consequence of getting revenge and the fate it leaves him,
it also shows that with every step takes, he becomes more and more lost to
anger and thoughts of revenge. Having one side of his face in the light, shows us
as an audience the belief Alex still has in Jordan and that hell turn round and
forget about revenge. Jordans positioning makes the light appear behind him
and the darkness in front, this shows that if he goes forward with getting
revenge, hell leave behind the life he once knew; friends, college and most
importantly, Alex.
